I've fixed the ranked points system. You're welcome.

New season, time to finally address the issue of the god awful rank system. Alright let's get to it.

Now I don't think it's completely awful, I really like the points system, start at 0, get to 100, do a series of games to move on to the next level. That's cool. What's not cool is the fact that everyone in the game is gaining and losing different amounts. It's idiotic at best. My teammates should not be gaining more or less for winning the same game. I should not be losing more or less than my teammates for losing the game. Here's a system that works far better than the seemingly random points system (I know, it's based off of a hidden elo or mmr or whatever) that's currently used.

Starting at 0 of course, your first win gives you 10 points, your second win in a row would give you 15 points for a total of 25. Third would get you 20, fourth 25, and fifth 30 for a total of 100 points. Once you reach your 100 points you start the series games, win two out of the three or three out of the five depending on where you're heading in the case of victory and you move on. Lose all of them and you go down to 50 points, win one or two respectively you go down to 75 points. Now in the case of losing it works the same way. First loss is -10 points, second in a row is -15, third -20, fourth -25, and fifth -30. To drop a tier you have to lose three in a row at 0 LP. The points progression reverts back to 10 in the event of a break in either streak. So assuming you're starting at 0 points and you win three games in a row, then lose the fourth you'd be at 35 points. If you were then to lose the next game you'd be at 20, but if you were to win it instead you'd go up to 45. If you progress or regress to a new tier or league the points reset back to the starting value of 10.

This system improves two things. 1. It's more stable and predictable. You don't have to worry about your hidden MMR dropping too low so you gain 5 points for a win and lose 25 for a loss. And 2. It stops progression by mediocrity as I like to call it. This is when you win the same amount as you lose, yet still steadily climb upwards despite the fact that you can't consistently win games at the level you're at, simply because you're gaining more points when you win than you're losing when you lose.

Whacha think?

Your teammate won 4 games in a row and needs a 5th win to move on or his 4 wins were a complete waste of time. You lose your lane. I'm sure he'll understand your position.

That's not true at all.. Read it. You don't need 5 wins in a row to move, you need 100 points. It doesn't matter how you get the points, just matters that you've got a total of 100 or more. Same way the system works now. 4 wins in a row and 1 loss would put him at 60 points, not 0.

Well there is your problem. You dont understand the current system. Even if you lose the same amount of points in one game that you gained in 4 you are not actually in the same position you were before. The divison system is just a nice overlay. The real rank is your ELO and its gains and losses are always calculated in the same way.

As to Corporal Cupcake. People can have different oppinions then yourself. That does not make them delusional.

To say a system is completely without flaw is 100% delusional.

I understand it just fine, I just think it's really really inaccurate. And if your real ranking is the ELO, then why is my ELO never anywhere near my division? Most of the time my ELO is at least 200-300 higher than where I am in divisions.

If your elo is 200-300 higher then your divisions you are gaining massive amounts of points every time you win and not losing many when you are defeated. You will eventually reach an equilibrium. That is the point of the current system.

Also stating there is nothing wrong with the current system doesnt make me delusional. It might be flawed for whatever purpose you envision but to me the current system achives its intended goals perfectly.

So let's say a Challenger player duo Qs with a Bronze

and free wins them all...

That's already not allowed. You can't duo with anyone two tiers above you. Bronze can't duo with gold, gold can't duo with diamond, etc.

Also, that's an extremely easy fix. Just remove duo queueing. It'll never happen because fun is a priority over health of the ranked system, but seriously, removing duo queue would only improve the system. I didn't bring it up it would take away from the fun for a lot of people and that's never good for a game.

Talamare! I remember you! If I remember correctly we met on the forums and had a pretty good time playing together for a while. Allow me to reintroduce myself, I am Corporal Cupcake, formerly known as Purplosion, most likely known as something else some time in the near future.

I think it's fine. Despite that the MMR system is hyper-punishing at times, I do think that tying MMR to LP is important in gating low elo players from duo-queueing with higher elo players, from random win streaks, and from freak OP hiccups like 4.20 Warwick. For the same reason, I disagree that having a 50/50 win rate shouldn't mean you aren't progressing. This game is known to have some very unfair champions and fights. Of course not every game is going to be like, either.

Really over the span of many games I don't think it'd have any difference at all.

Last year I had basically a steady 50/50 winrate all year long and I spent most of it in silver, where I belonged at the time. I did manage to get to gold, but when I did my mmr was that of a high gold (around 1750 according to all the sites) since I spent most of my time gaining LP in silver then losing promos and repeating. I lost nearly every game I played in gold because at the time I didn't belong in gold. But since my MMR was too high to drop back to silver, I stayed in gold.

It's just not an accurate ranking system for most cases.

I agree with this new system. As it stands all it takes is one loss from 4 wins in a row and you lose all your points earned from 4 wins. The idea that all that work for 30 to 40 mins each game goes away from a lose do to a afk, troll, cry baby or some just not wanting to work as a team makes no sense. Any one who thinks that the points right now work is just happy were they are at.

So basically, a worse version of what it already is?

Tbh I think the current system is really good. You just have to interpret it correctly. It works out to your tier means absolutely nothing. You should consider only your mmr in where you are. So if you do something where you win some and lose some and move to a different tier by winning 50% of your recent games, you should consider yourself to have not even changed. Your mmr didn't change, and that's the only thing that matters.

Your system is massively flawed since it doesn't take mmr into account at all. Since mmr is the only thing used to determine matches, you could abuse it to get into challenger by beating bronze V players. Consider that you could have 0 LP, get 2 losses, 1 win, and 1 loss, and be back to where you are in the tiers, but noticeably lower mmr. Repeat until you have 0 mmr by intentionally losing a whole bunch and yet you're still in the same tier.

This is probably the worse fix I have heard.
