Phantom Dancer on Wu?

So, in a recent game, I noticed that despite Cleaver, Ghostblade, Swifties, Fizz on the enemy team remained faster than me. So, I thought to myself, what item can I buy to increase my MS over him without sacrificing offense.

There's Deadman's, but I vehemently despise building armor on Wu. I considered Duskblade, but I thought to try something a little different...I went Phantom Dancer and boy it sure melts that fish down right quick!

Wait, crit chance and attack speed on Wu? Am I insane? Maybe I am. But then again, his E and Q do benefit from AS because their effects are timed and when you've nothing left but AA's, you may as well make the most of them.

Then you have the beautiful synergy that is the Lament of PD with Wu's passive. Damage reduction without having to build tank. Yea, it's nice.

Then there's the movement speed that not only increases when near visible enemies, but grants beautiful, beautiful unit collision immunity.

So, any thoughts on this?

It can work, but remember that you were (or appeared to have) built item 3046 for a situational purpose, which was to be able to catch up and deal with the enemy Fizz .

Is what made me think of it as a situational purpose. Building item 3046 casually may not be such a sturdy idea, but if you TRULY believe the situation calls for it, go ahead, but remember that item 3046 on MonkeyKing is not a typical situational item for him like how item 3001 would be to Veigar . It's more of a thing you would get for a full off-meta build (or if you are drastically ahead).

Don't get me wrong though, I am not saying your choice to build item 3046 was a terrible decision, nor a vacuous one.

Doesn't Wu's q and w reset the auto timer making attack speed pointless on him?

Actually, one attack speed item on him can prove effective against certain champions. Prior to Devourer's removal, I tested it in normals on Wu with success. It enabled me to go toe to toe with the likes of Yi, Jax, and Shyvana without having to rely on my ult against them in every duel. I built it with Black Cleaver to rush its stacks on enemies and Hydra to double Hydra's damage output on enemies. I was able to sate Devourer within the first 18 minutes of a game with the right runes and masteries. It also made acquiring S scores on Wu jg easy.

But the problem with Devourer is that most Jg who used it focused less on helping lanes when and where needed and more on farm until mid to late game. Many lanes ended up lost by the 20 minute mark and the Jg with Devourer found themselves invaded constantly prior to sating it. This resulted in the Jg becoming crippled and many players stubbornly refused to assist in any team fights until they managed to sate it, stating, 'Just got to get sated and then I'll be OP'. But by the time they would sate it (or often before) the game would already be lost.

In the end, Devourer was basically an impossible to balance item that gave players an excuse to afk farm.

nowhere near as good as the standard penetration-focused build, but if you want to duel the fish, it's fine.
