Chalice of Harmony since S1 was historically an item dedicated for hard-mana users but for some reason, in late S6 it was gutted to remove the mana regen passive and instead replaced it with a horribly misplaced HP regen passive.
Now maybe I'm seriously missing something, but what was the point of gutting/removing the best mana regen item the game?

VoidStaresBack2 votesI just told you what the point was, and it wasn't a "gutting" it was a shift into a different field. They moved mana sustain items out of the optimal buildpaths for standard AP mages and fully into the realm of supports, because they didn't like the amount of mana sustain mages could get.

The items is completely useless now, the only benefit is that it is necessary for items which have better passives like Athene's Unholy Grail or Mikael's Crucible. The actual Chalice of Harmony's passive is garbo.
VoidStaresBack1 votesIt was the only good one for mid lane mages, not the only good one in general. And it's passive is quite good in poke-heavy bot lanes since it gives you better passive sustain than the enemy support. I rarely rush it, but that's more a function of "I have a lot of other items to build" and that I usually play against kill lanes bot.

It encourages brainless wave pushing instead of interacting with your opponent.
