Why they're at the top.

When you hear: Assassin. Fighter. Support. Mage. Marksman. Tank.

You think: Zed Katarina Akali LeeSin Vi JarvanIV Janna Thresh Morgana Ahri Annie Lissandra KalistaVayne Lucian Sejuani Maokai Nautilus

Roles I don't see a problem with: Support, Tank. All are either even choices or just not reliable against the other possible roles early on so they can't get strong before the game ends. Mage as well, but that's because most mages are pretty even, or completely terrible, and the ones that are too outmatched to play mid are played as support.

So assassins, fighters, and marksmen. (for my purposes, jungler isn't in here because that is almost completely limited to assassin and fighter right now) I'm not going to rant about how the ones I listed, and any ones that can stand up to them need nerfs. No. I'm going to address the real issue: Other champions can't stand up to them.

When you think fighter, LeeSin is a prime example because he has everything a fighter wants: sustained damage, good clear, excapes, and a little cc. Vi is just as good because she has scaling HP% damage that's usually reserved for tanks, two gap-closers, and some CC. Issue is there are tens of champions who DON'T have everything a fighter needs to be able to go toe-to-toe with them.

As for Assassins, right now the top assassins can go in, delete an enemy, and return to safety or delete some more. There are fewer assassins than who can't achieve this than there are fighters who can't stand up to the top fighters, but the fact is Khazix and Evelynn are unplayable because one doesn't do the damage in a teamfight, where it needs to be done (due to a mechanic designed for killing people caught out, which shouldn't happen at the top levels of play). The other almost completely lost her cloaked playstyle and relies too heavily on a single spammed move with not much damage. (other examples exist, but I'm naming two that are either at the top or bottom of each.)

Right now the focus of marksman is somewhere between being insanely mobile and dealing damage they shouldn't deal. Point here being that Ezreal can't fight any of my examples because of their mobility and on-hit damage, KogMaw doesn't work as a marksman or a mage because his doesn't affect dashes and his high range doesn't mean anything against their superior on-hit damage (or extra auto, or infinitely stacking button-press execute).

We see the focus on being extremely mobile and high-damage recently. That leaves champions like Poppy Ryze Yorick Zac Galio Hecarim (Yeah, MS doesn't mean much against dashes recently) in the dust.

There are 80 champions they're hardly looking at because LCS play doesn't give them information to change them, because no one in LCS chooses them. They are neglecting the variety of the game by forcing a pool of less than half the champions onto players who don't want to see the "Defeat" screen every game. I'm not saying the top ones need nerfs, but everyone else needs compensation. (And I'm not talking the kind of "compensation" that Veigar Mordekaiser got for the removal of DFG)

TL;DR: Too many champions are ignored for buffs because they aren't meta. They all need to be reworked to fit the direction the game is going in with its new flashy play.

Nasus and Garen aren't tanks but fighters, they are simply played as one but they were not designed, nor are limited to, playing as tanks.

It's only because of mobility meta rampaging they sorta need to now but it's not their problem.

Real tanks would be alongside the likes of Ali, Naut, Zac or Leona, who you know, are mostly kept sucky intentionally because Riot doesn't like them.

EDIT: Fighters and Assassins are not trouble themselves, the problems lie in the fact some of them have way more tools than they deserve resulting in being too good for no reason or having compensations to trade it off, which ofc needs to be properly addressed and dealt with in time.

Same with adc, broken late game should be coupled with shiet as hell early, which existed in the form of low starting damage and near 0 mobility. Ez was in every game back in S2 because of his mobility and yet Riot never learned the lesson and keeps pushing out adcs more broken than him, the only adc who got released more recently with actually balanced kit is Varus, look where he is now?

You're right though. That fits perfectly with my argument about fighters not being strong enough. Nasus and Garen can't play their intended roles because the other fighters wipe the floor with them.

EDIT: nvm.

And in response to your edit: What you're saying agrees with what I said. I never said that it's fighters and assassins that are trouble, I said it's that a majority of them don't have the kits to stand up to the "OP" ones (who are only op because of this fact). It's not that I think the top ones need to get knocked down, it's that we need to raise the bar up to their level. It's like they're HS students fighting middle schoolers. I just want all middle schoolers moved up.

It's practically better to just knock outliners down instead of bring stuff up though, yeah it's flawed but it's faster and easier, call it band-aid solutions if you don't mind.

But true, the reason why meta is stale these days is because most champs can't do what they're INTENDED to do resulting people spamming top picks every game or people finding gimmicks to play against them (like our most recent case, Veig support), which ofc, gets nerfed immediately afterwards.

Why? Ask Riot.

I am no man obsessed with conspiracies but Riot really has some explanation to do for all the years of knee jerk nerfing in response to any potential meta shift that is working against the favour of those selection of champs they really want on the stage.

If you don't want champs go gimmick style then buff them so there will be no more reason for them to do so as their intended role would be better than some risky and pointless playstyle which might work or simply doesn't. When a good deal amount of champs are simply unviable at all in the pro scene, and some resort to using very questionable playstyles to even make use of their existence, you know there is something wrong.

EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking when I typed it, the grammar was a mess, I fixed most of them up though.

when I say tank, I don't think of garen.

Right. When you think of Garen it's because someone mentioned bushes.
