Either nerf ap or buff mr

We all know spectre's cowl is the shittiest item in the game. For the grand total of 1200 gold you only get 25 mr and 250 hp. Thats some really shitty stats for 1200 gold. Bami's cinder is better than that shit and its at 900 gold with a dmg passive thats pretty decent at 200 hp. Also mage items are cheaper than ad items like way cheaper in terms of game length and farming averages. Sorc Shoes literally rip half of your base mr on almost any champ and then straight into oblivion orb gives you close to 90% true dmg with abilities. Magic resist items are super outdated and useless in this meta. Tanks are dying to mages or turning into mages because of how broken the items are becoming. No one thinks malphite should be able to run tank or full ap cheese. It takes out counter play. Tank and bruisers have some of the most expensive items along with a good few adc items. The only really expensive ap item is deathcap. Ludens Echo and Morrello and sorc shoes are too good together. The only decent mrr item is adaptive helm. It only gives you 350 hp with 55 mr. It cost 2800 gold and the final cost is 1000 gold. That is ridiculously expensive. Void staff is 2650 gold and gives you +70 ap and %40 magic pen. If you have not noticed that 40% is what you are sitting at with just one mr item. So they basically strip off all of your mr along with sorc shoes and oblivion orb. Spirit visage is useless to champs with low hp regen or no abilities that heal. Aatrox even uses spirit better than tanks now so do all bruisers. Even battle mages like gragas or vlad use it better than other tanks/bruisers.

Tanks are dead this season because of the powercreeping in reworks and the small but significant buffs made to void and rabs and the mage item rework. It has slowly killed tanks into uselessness or forces them to use ap items.
