We should buff towers, but also, buff ARAM
I didn’t come in here to cry about how weak towers are, but to leave them weak is to make a decision about the direction of the game, and to that end I have to say I don’t care for it.
When towers are easy to kill, it removes a good deal of strategy. If Mage can roast them relatively close to the way ADCs can, then towers don’t matter. Bad decisions lead to tower elimination, which means the game is more about other things, than it is about towers.
- KD(and maybe)A
- CS
- Baron/Dragon
- Your grade after the game since we’ve linked it with rewards
Why remove the tower element? I’m the kind of person who wants to see more strategy put into the games, not less, and while I love the jungle plants, it wasn’t a 1-to-1 trade, the tower for plants move.
The problem with this is that in my experience, gaming companies don’t like big sweeping changes. And after the PR issues of last season, I have a bad feeling Riot isn’t jumping to make bold new changes again. But here’s what really needs to happen:
Summoner’s Rift:
We need to juice up the strategy in this game in 3 major ways:
- Towers
- Give Supports more map control, not just player control
- We need to have the ability to repair structures over time, either through individual items, or team input (e.g. Spend 500g, bring back a tower in 10 mins)
ARAM
Part of the issue we’re having a KDA love-fest in SR is because people want that style of play, but ARAM doesn’t count. So we’re trying to wedge two needs into one game, and I think the end result is that no one’s truly happy. The KDAers get 40 kills, lose the match, and scream bloody murder at everyone else. The strat players are screaming all game to stop chasing bait in the jungle and that helps no one.
Solutions here are to
- Give ARAM ranks
- Make it truly random – e.g. you can get any champ available
- Allow hextech rewards, and rewards from achiving ranks to extend to ARAM
