Why did we revert crit items again?

Look, I get that the old IE wasn't exactly stellar in terms of design and Stormrazor was streamlined but uuuuh....we're back to square one. We went from ADCs that absolutely demolish squishies to ADCs that were forced to either go on-hit or Stormrazor back to ADCs that absolutely demolish squishies with braindead gameplay.

I'm sorry, but am I missing something? I thought we wanted crit items reworked back in early season 8 so that this shit wouldn't happen. But I guess ADC players yet again got what they wanted and now they're just walking right click 2 shot machines with little to no counterplay.

Allowing ADCs to skip Last Whisper was a mistake, and people hate True Damage even if its not actual damage and just extra visible total armor Pen. Also Yasuo abusing Conqueror + IE and his quadruple crit passive because Riot couldn't be assed to just remove that since he could get it through items anyway.

To be fair, its not like it actually made a difference. Yasuo gets 100% crit with two items regardless.

better than one shot machines lel.

Because they are too lazy too or incapable of balancing everyone else, as always they take the easy route. After the next conqueror buff they very likely will not have to buy a LW or a lifesteal item...

Well, the initial crit changes did more to invalidate many ADCs than help, and gave more boons to bruisers and fighters, which was not intended. Besides, they did nerf the reverted IE and many zeal items. And the game tends to end before ADCs are actuallized, in my cases.

Yea, it feels really bad. Diversity in botlane is dead again, and we are again back to better botlane wins. It feels really bad

Riot couldnt be bothered to continue with the direction they were going, and instead opted to 'revert' the changes.

IE needed to be changed into a compromise; instead of 10% crit damage as true, it needed over crit is turned into crit damage. Its double crit was GREAT.

Zeal items were fine. Storm razor needed to be a 20% crit item. As it is right now it needs to be made out of item 1018 (800) item 1038 (1300) item 2015 (600); i really like the energized support.

Essence reaver is great.

The problem with the previous iteration of crit itemization was that marksmen, a late-game class of champion, latched HARD onto storm razor... an item that was never meant to be used the way marksmen mains used it. They tried to use it as a crutch, and they had bad gamefeel because of it due to it making them have a 4 item core.

That 4 item core was what needed to be changed. By giving them a 3 item core their gamefeel would have improved tremendously - storm razor getting crit would allow it to be rushed still (marksmen mains are very slow to adapt to change after all) without impacting their performence.

Marksmen itemization needs a real overhaul rather than reverting or keeping it the same. In my opinion, this would be healthier:

item 3035 Armor Pen removed. Now gives ramp-up attack speed in fights, including combat with objectives/structures. Ramp-up is not unique, so several of the items below can be stacked as desired.

item 3036 Cleaves armor on-hit and provides ramp-up attack speed in fights. Should be core against armor-stacking tanks/juggernauts so that marksmen can whittle down enemy defenses and soften them for their team to take down. Should shred objective defenses as well. The cleaving effect is a unique passive and this item should not be stacked with BC.

item 3033 Applies Grievous Wounds and provides ramp-up attack speed in fights. If playing against a super beefy sustain target, like Mundo, then a marksmen should counterbuild with both LDR and Mortal Reminder.

item 3085 Now builds out of LW and provides ramp-up attack speed instead of flat attack speed.

item 3094 Now builds out of LW and provides ramp-up attack speed instead of flat attack speed. It could also do something like increase ramp-up rate when applying energized attacks.

Critical hit modifier could add bleed damage over-time (2-4 seconds) on every autoattack instead of a flat increase based on pseudo-RNG. item 3031 could make the bleed damage apply immediately instead of over-time, resulting in a more similar gameplay experience to current (so in the case of 100% crit modifier with IE, gameplay would be unchanged), or IE could get a new effect.

Crit bonus damage no longer applies lifesteal, however, it does still apply to item 3812 heal. item 3072 overheal capacity buffed.

Defensive carry items, such as item 3026 item 3046 item 3812 item 3072 item 3156 item 3139 (and AP equivalents like item 3157 item 3102), buffed with the expectation that offensive classes should normally choose 2-3 of these in their build for survival (full glass-cannon should be sub-optimal).

These changes would probably do a lot to fix the damage meta and would make marksmen healthier in all metas. Marksmen would actually tend towards DPS and would be encouraged to provide backup damage and shredding for their team that would thrive in long fights.

In both pro play and solo Q The crit relying adc's were barely touched. The only ADC's you ever saw were Kaisa, Varus, lucian, Ezreal, and Miss Fortune. None of which would go with a crit build. Some would go stormrzor but that was about it. So something was clearly not right with crit items.
