Riot, just admit it. You fucked up with Aatrox.

DarkinPrime··4 votes·2,160 views

Clunky, boring. A champion that fills no role in this game. Brings nothing unique to the table.

Just admit you were wrong, and give us the old Aatrox back. Or, fuck it, keep both, and rename the new one something else.

Whatever it is, it ain't Aatrox, and never will be.

Which is also exactly the same thing with old Aatrox lol?

DarkinPrime1 votes

Nope

DarkinPrime1 votes

New Aatrox entire kit is spamming Q. Spamming damage and CC. Yeah, its so much better.

lolipopevelynn3 votes

They fucked up his voice and dialogue (from philosophical warrior who inspired entire armies to fight to a edgey teenager obsessed with "1v1 me bro. I kill u and ur unborn kids")

Aside from that he is pretty strong after hotfixes. Not as strong as the other juggernauts, but still strong vs some champs. As with all juggernauts if he gets CCed he is worthless and just dies.

Old Aatrox's VO was extremely generic, like his lore. He came across as rushed and incomplete, which is evidenced by how vague his lore was, and how devoid it was of actually giving us personality and motivations about Aatrox.

DarkinPrime1 votes

His whole kit is spamming Q. Literally. How is this better?

"Keep both" you say?

There was a reason he was reworked. His kit was impossible to balance. There have been a lot of reworks on champions that were a lot more fun and a lot more deserving to stay in the game than Aatrox.

This obviously doesn't excuse them for the current Aatrox which seems to be the AD caster equivalent of old cancerkit Aatrox, but hey... it's Riot. 'Tis only to be expected.

DarkinPrime1 votes

"impossible". It was once thought IMPOSSIBLE to run a 4 minute mile. After the first guy did it...like 68 other people did it in the next 2 years.

It was very possible. They just didn't want to and that was their excuse.

BeatzBoyFTW2 votes

New Aatrox's still pro-play material. Dunno wtf you're talking about.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Great. So he has a spammable CC and damage that high skilled players will abuse. Another annoying champion. Wonderful.

BeatzBoyFTW3 votes

Compared to old Aatrox who does nothing but presses R and right-clicks ftw while abusing item 3124 , I'd still prefer new Aatrox over the old one.

Secondly, if you surfed Boards long enough, according to "pros" and "high elos" in this website, they called Aatrox's rework "clunky af", "abilities are too telegraphed", and is "the worst rework of all". I honestly can't wait for the day when they're proven wrong when they started writing threads about "Please nerf Aatrox".

DarkinPrime1 votes

Haha what? No, old Aatrox wasn't that simple. If you build tons of damage, you are easily bursted down. Anything that slows your attack or any hard CC and you can't heal, and you die. In team fights, 1v1 dueling doesnt matter for much if the other team can focus you. And as Aatrox it was also your job to sometimes initiate the team fights and dive the back line. And guess what, if you get kited, you have to be able to know who to attack to heal and stay alive as you try to get to your target.

Meanwhile, there are champions that LITERALLY just press R to deleted an enemy or 2 shot them, and I guess that is all okay. But a champion who can only do damage and heal while being exposed to damage himself is somehow the problem?

What a fucking joke.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Furthermore, I NEVER said new Aatrox was weak. Not once. His moves are very telegraphed because they can do a lot of damage with CC. I fully expect high skill players to learn to abuse his kit until he becomes annoying as Yas or Riven.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

Your 1st paragraph already listed a lot of stuffs about why old Aatrox was shit. As you said, all you can do is dive the backline. After that, you need to pray to God that you can stay alive in the fight by doing nothing but auto-attacking, while also applying the fact that you're easily kite-able & no other hard CC aside the used Q. Why would players bother picking him when Ornn & Renekton does the job better?

2nd paragraph is nothing more than pure exaggeration with 0 context, but what I can tell is that you're definitely comparing a drain tank to an assassin like Zed, which imo is a shitty comparison.

DarkinPrime1 votes

"Compared to old Aatrox who does nothing but presses R and right-clicks ftw while abusing , I'd still prefer new Aatrox over the old one."

I went on to list whey he doesn't just press R to win. Then you agreed with me that he had a lot of weakness....you said, praying to god he can stay alive...easily kite-able, suspectible to hard CC....so which is it? Was he weak with problems or does he just press R and abuseitem 3124 ?

You can't have it both ways. Either he was cheesy who simply presses R, OR he is riddled with weakness and it takes skill to actually win with him. So which?

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

The fact that you're intensely focused on having Rageblade to be relevant in teamfights since all you do is simply auto-attacking is more than enough to show that old Aatrox just doesn't make the cut. Adding the fact that an Aatrox that is too behind is a useless Aatrox, well technically, you simply became a degraded version of Alistar where your only presence is your knock-up.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Me focusing on Rageblade? YOU are the one who brought it up. I never even build that item. Haha is this a joke? And Aatrox from behind can be build as a bruiser with grasp of the undying and do quite well.

Again YOU are the one who brought up rageblade. Had you never mentioned it, it would never have been brought up my me. Holy shit dude. Your desire to be right and try to win this is...sad. You are wrong. On all points.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

Dude, when I said "you", I'm referring to any readers himself being the Aatrox player, not just you. You don't build it, but majority others do since that item is one of his core items to be relevant in matches, including pro-plays.

You alone don't define on how Aatrox can be balanced just because "you don't build that", calm down your triggered delusions.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Haha I enjoyed your rambling unfocused response. You are wrong. Aatrox doesn't press R to win. Other champions do. Literally.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Also, 2nd paragraph is not exaggeration. In fight with Garen? He hits R to kill you. In a fight with Darius? He hits R to kill you. In a fight with Tryndamere, he hits R to win the fight. Literally. These champs literally hit R to win. Aatrox never did anything close to that with his R. He hits R to maybe win if the fight goes well and if he can keep auto attacking and if he doesn't get bursted down.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

....I'm sorry to say, but again, pure exaggeration. "Hits R to kill you", you stated as if he's able to 100-0 with one click of a button at 100% Hp, especially Tryn's statement. I don't think you're the type of person who's eligible enough to discuss about balance.

DarkinPrime1 votes

I never said 100-0. YOU interjected that just now to try to grasp at a chance of being right. When you are fighting against Aatrox with low health. Him hitting R doesnt kill you. It gives him a chance to kill you. If you are fighting Garen with low health. Him hitting R LITERALLY KILLS YOU. Trynd is more of a stretch but since he cant die and does tons of damage...well, we all know that its unlikely for him to not kill someone in a team fight when he uses that R.

Are you not getting this?

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

You stated "Hit R and kills you" with absolutely 0 context, of course your statement looks as if you're claiming them being able to 100-0.

Garen He must have enough damage to be able to whittle a single opponent down to be able to execute you person with his ult. And in order to do so, he must be able to stick to that one person since he has close to no mobility (Q is a speed boost that can be slowed or pushed off)

Darius Simply a better Garen, but also faces the same problem in terms of sticking to an opponent. The only way he can "gap-close" an enemy is by catching one with his E. If he were to miss, he becomes highly vulnerable to kiting, which is why champions like Jayce or Quinn counters him hard. The only way he can "one-shot" you with his ult is for him to be able to hit you 5 times & then whittle you down to at least 25-30% HP. Believe me, it's actually harder to do so than it sounds.

Tryndamere Just CC the dude during his ult. There's a reason why he's a complete shit pick in pro-plays since 2014.

DarkinPrime1 votes

You can also CC Aatrox during his ult. You are making my point. Aatrox could be dealt with easily. And had the same weakness in his kit as many other champions. The idea that there was no way to buff Aatrox with his old kit is just fallacy. They could have even lowered his damage and healing and gave him more functionality. Some kind of shield or defensive stat, a team buff ult, and a passive that made him stronger when outnumbered perhaps. Lots of things they could have done.

HalcyonDweller2 votes

I dunno what you're smoking, I played a game with an Aatrox on my team and he did great, the champion brings his own play patterns to the game.

Yeah because the old one felt smooth, was FuN and was pretty unique! It's not like there were champs that did what he did better in every way right? coughTryndamerecough. Plus, you actually have to use more than 5% of your brain power to play the new Aatrox [zombie-brand-mindblown]

Old aatrox was always a worse version of yi jax trynd and even ww. Ppl picked him simply because rageblade was too strong and he can cheese with his revive passive.

MOLTinaTOR1 votes

Ain't that the truth [zombie-nunu-bummed]

DarkinPrime1 votes

Never cared for rageblade, and the revive never really did much for me. Won without both.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Wrong. Tryndamere certain did auto attacking better, but couldn't initiate a fight the way Aatrox could, and had no poke in lane. The fact that Tryndamere exists as he is, yet Aatrox was the first to get the axe is a fucking joke.

Quiet Dude1 votes

His popularity and win rate keep rising yo. Just give it up. People want the new hotness and not old and busted. Let old Aatrox die, or change your darkin username if you can’t seperate your personality from him.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Who cares. Hes brand new of course his popularity will spike for a while. And his kit will eventually become busted as high skilled players learn to get the most out of it, and suddenly Aatrox is as annoying as Yas or Riven. GREAT.

Quiet Dude1 votes

Yes, great.

DarkinPrime1 votes

What does new Aatrox bring to the table?

Lord Malpercio1 votes

He isn't even clunky when you get the hang of him. Honestly the only adjustment to him I'd make is making his ult heal him a bit if he doesn't die during it.

Namely because it's quite awkward to get hit by something the nanosecond your ult ends and die without getting anything at all.

Tryndamere had a similar problem with his ulti.

Would advice to heal for 50% of what he would have on death, (so 25% max HP at most)

I really like the rework personally but you are entitled to your opinion

The Highest Noon1 votes

Having played him a lot in and out of URF, I kinda agree. He may not be like the OLD Aatrox, but he feels like a downgrade in most aspects while an upgrade in others. I LOVE his animations and character. On the same hand, I despise his kit. It has too much inspiration from Riven, just not as reliable, while having similarities to other Champions while also not as reliable.

  • His Q is way too clunky as said, and easy to avoid by simply having a mobile champion--an aspect that thematically doesn't make sense because he's supposed to be a combat powerhouse. If that's the case, why is he outclassed by pretty much every other fighter?
  • Thematically, the limitations to his W make no sense. I personally dislike the idea of "chains" coming from him, but that aside why is it's escape-range so awkwardly shaped?
  • His E is just...why? Just a short-ranged dash that resets his auto attack (which, given his new direction...doesn't matter) and increases AD (which could've been added to the passive). There could've been so much more to this. It could've been something to make him interesting. My idea is that pressing E right after Q could change the way his Q functions like switching the sweet spots of each cast from the edge to the insides, or better yet doing something completely different. As is, it's not interesting in the slightest.
  • His R is as basic as could be, given that it's changes from the original are only slight. THIS is my most main concern, and is a point where Aatrox could really go from a "Clunky, boring champion" to something spectacular. Given what it is, WHY ARE THERE NO ABILITY INTERACTIONS? They could've made his abilities come out faster or with increased range with adjusted Q sweet spots (or ALL sweet spots, though that seems pretty OP considering the knockups), his W chains spread from the target to those close if it manages to tether, they could've even increased his E range and decreased the cooldown of each charge since the animation looks like that's what it'd do anyway (Tip: It doesn't).

Overall, this rework just feels lazy on part of the creative team. Compare it to Irelia. Not only did they keep her thematically true, they also made her gameplay more interesting. Aatrox just feels confused about how they wanted him to be, decided to just make him a less functional version.
