I don't really get Rakan's high AP ratios...

He's obviously a support and he needs to engage and stay in the fight or just poke in lane with massive early cd's. Soooo, if he engages while building ap, because of those huge ap ratios, he'll just blow up everytime without doing anything. You don't get a lot of gold like in a solo lane for ap builds anyway. So you need to build him tanky with those balanced support items item 3107 item 3190 and maybe throw in item 3504 , so you actually use some of those huge ap ratios. I just feel like those ratios are missplaced, you feel bad because you don't get to use them and you need to build tanky anyway.

The ratios are there so that the little ap he can get his hands on like Ardent feels like it does something

And the high ratios are on utility (shields and heal) so he isn't an unstoppable monster if you do build him full AP.

Tbh, The ap ratios don't really do much for his dmg and are really just there to buff up his shields imo. I've built him full ap with item 3116 item 3152 and even item 3174 , and it works well but is by no means overpowered (except the extra mobility that build gives lol)

I kinda wish that there was one small tank ratio though like with many supports having an hp raitio somewhere in there, however, the whole concept of Rakan seems to be get in, burst cc them, and get out without really taking much damage. And for that purpose, his ap ratios are very well placed.

Wait... AP actually also increases something else than damage? NO WAY.

Because the support items he wants to build have trashy ap values, this way he actually gets use out of those values because of his high ratios.

If you stay at the frontline, you will die no matter how tanky you build.

Rakan works best if you go in fast and out fast and carry a heal with you.

Thats because riot doesnt want to him to be tanky with all of this mobility

I think the ratios are there to discourage building full tank. Can you imagine if his Q healing scaled with level and didn't have high AP ratios?

People still will anyway. What's the point?

Why does Nami, Janna, and Soraka have AP ratios on skills? People always only build the same Active Items anyway making full build give literally 0 AP or 60 AP if they get censer, censer is literally the only AP item built by ANY supports.

  1. Have you seen Rakan's skills? He has MASSIVE AP ratios on defensive mechanics. Like 70%+. Other supports usually have less than 50% scaling on their utility spells.

  2. Is it a good thing that Censor is the only good AP support item in the game save an AP Sightstone?

This ratios are here, I suppose, to make Censer and Athene's attractive items, or Frost Queen Claim.

I find the only way to reliably use the AP rations is to give up on initiating with him (which usually leads to people *****ing at you for not doing it) because unless the enemy team has absolutely no CC, they're gonna stun you mid W and kill you through it. But if you stay in the back-line, he actually peels relatively well assuming it isn't the whole enemy team collapsing on you.

I can't say I didn't wish the first cast of his E removed all CC, or maybe put it on the ult (or make the small jump he does when starting it make him untargettable). Anything really to make it less deadly for a primarily AP building support to be able to jump in the middle of a fight without necessarily dying immediately (similarly to Morg who has her black shield).

Alternatively, rather than give him a free "get out of jail cards" in his kit, I'd like it if casting E on a ranged champion allowed Rakan to copy the attack range of that champion for 3 AAs, making Spellthief an actual option on him. Seriously why make an AP scaling support but have the Spellthief line thoroughly unusable on him?

He's obviously a support and he needs to engage and stay in the fight

Uh... he is the opposite... he uses E on an ally, W on aggressors, Qs and Es back to ally, he is basically go in, use your shit and retreat style of champion, not facetank charging into the middle of enemy team. That is the reason why he has 400 AA range and not the usual 125.... it is the assassin support community wanted for a long time and people now complain about him being this new distinct type and not the 100th fucking ball of meat CC bot who is only useful because they buy Items with Actives...

His ult gives him a shitton of movement speed, movement speed which will make him dodge abilities and threats, that is super assassin-like.

Ever heard on tanky APCs? Swain, Diana, old Elise and many more? You know... Rod of Ages for example was made specifically for them and surprise, it works really well on Rakan.

People play him as an Item Actives bot only because they are too retarded to build anything else. And also autofill supports will obviously follow that build because... well everyone uses it.

On Twisted Treeline Moonflair Spellblade is super good item on him, too bad it is not on SR.
