Gnar's problem is that he is 2 entirely separate champions with individual strengths

Kingsgrave··2 votes·798 views

and with weaknesses that are almost entirely irrelevant because he can switch between the two rather well if the player using Gnar is even remotely skilled or competent

He is unlike other transformation champions in this way because the rest have combos that are dependent on the 2 forms whereas Gnar is just straight up an entirely different champion when he changes and doesnt have to really keep in mind combos outside of transformation

You should take a hand at playing Gnar before you complain about how OP he is. His transformations are utterly uncontrollable, unless you want to intentionally miss out on CS, which makes you lose hard. His weakness is that no matter what, at least one of his forms will lose out to you (both if you are a mobile ranged champ). His mini form is super short range and the squishiest champ in the game. His mega form is one of the most kite-able champs in the game unless he is at full CDR. Both forms have their strengths, but they also have glaring weaknesses.

If you're having trouble laning against him in a certain form, try to avoid fighting him and just CS while he's in that form. Then when he transforms punish him because he can't change forms at will.

To be fair, mini gnar doesn't really have any abilities to combo with.

As you sit there and wait 16 seconds with no escape to have done approximately 250 damage if that. What could possibly go wrong?

It only takes about 10 seconds to get into Mega form if you are full on aggressive

Okay. So what if you're not? There is no combo. Q+E and AA til transform isn't even a combo, it's a blow-everything-and-hope-something-dies.

Also, how much attack speed do you build on Gnar?

Long Dong Wukong1 votes

blow-everything-and-hope-something-dies not a combo

What is a combo then? rofl.

A strategic use of one ability to ensure the effectiveness of the other(s). Ahri's charm+Q, Fiora's dash+Ult, Panth's stun+E, Mega Gnar's Ult+W, etc.

Long Dong Wukong1 votes

Strategically hitting Q, jumping on them with E, and AAing to ensure the proc of W.

Implying you aren't going to have to go for this every so often to ensure a kill.

Mmhmm

I almosr never use hop offensively, and I pretty much just spam boomerang as soon as it's up, so yeah. You don't.

Then you aren't using Gnar effectively. If you play him well, you can q+basic+e (on target to bounce and catch q early)+q.

Then, - if you're generating any rage b4 that mini engage - you'd then be able to Mega early with the r(into wall)+w+q+e

Not all combos are keyboard slammers like Katarina or Akali, so basic attacks are needed. Just because you don't do the combo, doesn't mean he doesn't have one.

I never argued mega gnar doesn't have a combo. I argued mini gnar doesn't have a combo. That "combo" is just chasing and trying to transform so you can actually combo.

Random Task1 votes

No. Not at all. It's literally "A strategic use of one ability to ensure the effectiveness of the other(s)". You q to stack w and slow to get e off, you e to stack w and increase the chance of hitting q again, then if they don't die Mega Gnar is the icing on the cake.

Combos literally don't have to kill to be called a combo.

disregardable1 votes

I just don't believe that just using two abilities with no synchronization or real utility to get you or anyone else kills should be called a combo. You clearly disagree. That's cool.

Random Task1 votes

Lol...what?...Alright whatever.

And then

I almost never use hop offensively

Yes, we agree.

He also can't 100% control his transformation early. It isn't the click of a button. Close the gap, mash his face at lvl 2 before he can transform or learn how to poke him down properly. Proceed to sit back and take CS, win your lane and effect the game elsewhere.

All-in when he's about half a second from transforming back to mini gnar from mega.

Yes, because having only 65 health per level and hardly any form of burst in Mini Form is not even a weakness. 3 armor per level and no magic resist gain is totally not a weakness. No hard crowd control either? Man, you call that bad? I call that a strength! Dont even get me started about Mega Form! 325 movement speed as a Melee Champion is not even bad! Long cool down poke without hard engaging? Man! Thats another strength too! I mean, it totally doesnt matter that Mega Gnar can do nothing past his first burst!

Is this post even real?! Gnar has a crap ton of weaknessses. It's just people dont like adjusting in the middle of a fight to handle both forms. Maybe Gnar needs a better indicator for when he is about to Rage, but he CERTAINLY has weaknesses. Im not saying he isn't powerful, but he isn't OP unable to beat in any situation. You can beat Gnar as any champion, you just have to wait to capitalize on which form you can go against better.

And if Gnar is able to transform as he pleases, that isnt pro skill. That is Gnar going against someone who doesnt ever fight back.

Random Task1 votes

It's hard to indicate because it's not exactly random, seeing as you can go into Gnar anytime during the passive going off.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Psst.... force fights when he's in the form you can handle. If you can all-in little gnar, dive him right as he's turned back from Mega Gnar. If you can easily kite Mega Gnar, hit him just after he's changed to Mega Gnar. He telegraphs the heck out of his change, is it really that hard to just wait for him to be in the form you can handle and then abuse him?
