Caitlyn builds? Does this work?

Soooo I've had some good luck with Caitlyn recently and I'd like to share my success.

With Caitlyn, I've discovered her entire Kit is based on her Headshots not, you want to stack as many as you possibly can because each does ridiculous amounts of damage.

For example, if someone steps on a trap and they're close to you. Try hitting them with your E, you'll get 2 headshots and you can follow up with a Q and ult if you did enough damage for the kill.

I build the essentials first item 3031 and item 3085. This combo will get you a head shot every 3 shots instead of every 6th shot while in team fights and when wave clearing.

Then I finish item 3006 and i being work on item 3812 or item 3072 for sustain and additional base damage. I prefer item 3812 because it can help against burst oriented assassins and mid laners. Then I get item 3094 and item 3087 because the energized passives will STACK :D So you can stack a RPC burst and a Shiv burst with extra range WITH a headshot. Almost one shotting most squeshies. Normally Ill finish with a item 3072 to get that last bit of damage and sustain.

Your attacks will do about 1000+ a shot procing warlords each time, and headshots do 2000+ damage. So lay those traps down and shot them nets :D

Lemme know if this guide helped at all :D Or give me some feedback on your personal Caitlyn builds :D Or any adc at that

(this doens't include situational builds to counter specific carries, like BORK, or Last whisper, maw, etc. This is an average build that I rush if I get ahead.)

I highly suggest getting crit or at least item 3086 before you upgrade to an infinite edge. item 1038 into item 3086 then finish item 3031 is always great. If you dont have any crit your infinite edge is an expensive AD item and you dont get the bonus.

After that you need to evalute the team. IF they have an assassin like a Zed or panth who has shown they can get on you, then you want one of your 2 lifesteal/defensive items.

If they are not getting on you keep going damage. In reality you have the longest auto attack range in the game and as long as you are not standing at the front of your team and the enemy team is not diving onto you or building thornmail, you shouldn't be building lifesteal first.

Yeah so I always rush IE if I can afford, I focus on Cs'ing and trying to pick off a kill or so in the first 10 min but my goal is 100 cs at the 10 min mark. Ill pick up Runaans to get head shot more often as well (Plus if they step on a trap or get hit by a net, the range of the bolts of runaan are equal to the range of the extra long headshot you get from the ability, so you can charge headshots much much faster)

But I only get sustain because most games have some kind of assassin or burst champ, and it stacks with my Warlords.

Oh god no. Just no.

I've been winning most of my caitlyn matches, what would you change?

I'd make it the standard build, obviously. Here's why.

Your autos will just be little pings with that build in the late game. You'll be hitting for like 350 damage when you should be hitting for 600. You need last whisper 3rd or 4th item in your build, not 3 attack speed items. The reason you get the firecannon early instead of runaans is it's more useful for sieging, which is mostly what you'll be doing around that time. Save the AOE for the late game teamfights.

I will say there's nothing wrong with substituting death's dance for blood thirster, but you could also pick up other items here too, like Maw, Steraks, Bork, or Scimitar. BT is never a bad choice, but it's not always the best choice.

I see what you're saying, lemme explain the 3 attack speed items.

I get them to do three things.

1.Proc headshot more often and with more power with the RPC ranged boost, shiv AOE damage boost and Runaans for additional AOE and it procs headshot twice as fast in team fights and in wave clearing which helps push lanes out as well 2. It gives me 100% crit rate with decent High rate of fire, which can be countered of course but it also gives me movement speed boost and it proc's my warlords mastery which gives me sustain and more attack speed. Yes my base damage is low but the 100% crit rate with other passive items bonus gives me 1000+ per basic attack and 2000+ damage per headshot which I can proc every 3rd shot with runaans, with each trap, and with my net. So If someone steps on a trap I can shoot a net and do 4000+ damage to an assassin or ADC or APC on the enemy team nearly instantly. 3. With the dragon move speed boost, I can sell my boots for another AD item and still run faster than I would even if I had boots, giving me even more damage and my warlords 100% guarentee'd proc will make up for the attack speed I lose from the boots.

BUT I do agree with you, this is a basic build. It doesn't include counter build items, that change each match and that I do buy each game depending on whats going on.

go mid. rush essence reaver and rapid fire cannon. max traps. litter the entire lane against all in attempts and ganks, and woprk off your range to cs and poke until you reach lategame.

thats how cait is played nowdays.

i swear the only reason she had a shitty winarate after her rework was because people are still maxing q instead of w and building a neverending wall of traps.

shes so safe with 5 traps, in the field that its absolutely stupid.

Caitlyn mid??? Im confused haha, I max my traps out and I have 62% win rate win her (had a string of bad luck last week but I've recovered since then haha)

But I've always finished above 50% win rate with her Especially now that the damage on her traps has been buffed.

But I agree her Traps are so strong right now and I use them all the time, especially when defending an inhib tower from a push, so easy to make a wall and take em all out.

why not? shes safe, she has range, and she has bursty poke. give me one reason you cant play her mid? its all about the matchups.

i trashed a tf on her. her ult even makes roams to bot decent.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

Well for one reason, tops usually go AD, jg usually goes AD, bot goes AD.

So really by going AD mid, you make a 4 man AD team with either a tank support or you cahnge support to an AP carry.

But I agree... I just roam from bot to mid with my ult instead of mid to bot haha.

Not that caitlyn can't go mid but it hurts the team comp as awhole by going marksman mid.

It would be ok/good but going bot with her would be better. Especially cause you can 2 kills bot instead of just 1 mid ;D

RFC and Shiv bursts don't stack. You'll get the range+lightning, but only the damage from whichever of the two is greater, rather than both bits of extra burst.

They originally stacked, but they changed that almost the next patch since it was rather too bursty.

I haven't played much cait recently, but I did use to main her. This season I've tended towards item 3031 item 3006 item 3094 item 3072 item 3036 item 3139 as sortof a 'default' build. I might sub out ER for LDR if theres not much armour, and merc is quite flexible with other defensive items if the situation calls for it.

Your build is wasting some stats, as you end up with 110% crit chance. Zekes is still an item some supports will build by 'default' and may not realise how much crit chance you're building anyway, so I'm also somewhat wary of going too far beyond 50% crit chance for fear of wasting the supports build (this is probably not a hgue deal though as they should be paying enough attention to see it's not worth building).

SP Dodgecity1 votes

I like your build and again, mine is a default build, it almost always has a different item to counter the other team, but TBH

I feel like Runaans Hurricane is perfect on Caitlyn, you literally can proc a headshot after 2 shots instead of 5, Headshots being the focus of her kit now. Along with a trap and net combo you can hit 3 in a row. mid-late game thats about 4000-6000 damage which melts people. Plus I try and focus a CRit based build just so I can also proc warlords more often as well.

and I'm pretty sure the shiv and RFC stacked.. I could see the AOE and the distance boost and damage going off too but i'm not sure. But its still nice to proc a shiv passive from super far away. Plus the Crit, attack speed, and move speed is nice too.

Mysticman891 votes

Warlords doesn't need crits anymore.

Hurricane is indeed viable on cait, and something I've been meaning to experiment with if I ever find myself playing cait again. I'm not sure if I'd do it in place of RFC or in place of LDR or somewhere else entirely, but I suppose that's one of the things I'd feel out through experimentation.

(Unfortunately I seem to be stuck with mostly support (which I do enjoy thankfully), and when I do get adc I'm often more inclined to play around with jhin or other champs I don't already have 5 mastery with.)
