Champion bans are almost exclusively melee champions.
Just some food for thought - A melee champion that has the tools to be effective tends to SEEM more overpowered than Ranged Champions with the same.

Prior to juggernaut... Sated champs were all banned... prior to that Cinderhulk champs were banned... prior to that burst mages were all banned... prior to that Lee Sin / Zed were banned what's your point?

There hasn't been a time since I joined the game (Sep 2014) where mages were priority bans. So we've got:
Juggernaut bans Sated bans Cinderhulk bans Assassin bans
Note how all of those groups are near exclusively melee. Which is exactly his point. For the last year at the very least, bans have been predominantly taken by melee characters.

I've been playing this game since season 1 (Didn't really get big into it till pre-season 2.) This has always been the case - you had a few exceptions like LB, but she's still very much a GET IN YO FACE champion.
Much of the time its been team fight oriented melees - Malph, Amumu, Shen. Honorable mentions for Blitz.
