Bard Q range?

I've been playing a lot of Bard lately and I've noticed the Q range kind of varies depending on how close the enemy is to you when you hit it. Can I get some clarity on 1. Why and 2. What exactly are the differing ranges depending on target range?

Bard's Q travels for a set distance after it strikes the first target. This is why it travels less distance when you hit a target at close range.

The initial missile travels up to 950 (around 3/4 sight range), and it always travels 450 after striking the first target.

I would guess that they did this is to avoid letting Bard's stun travel 1400 (>sight radius) in most situations.

I'll assume you are referring to the second hit, which from my experience doesn't even extend if it's not going to hit anything. I think it's just a visual mishap which does not in anyway accurately describe the range.

Sure.

  1. Bard's Q has a "secondary range" that takes over if it passes through a first target. For example, a point blank Bard Q will not travel very far, since its regular range was negated as soon as it was cast.

  2. The regular Q range is 950, and after connecting it has 450 units to strike a second unit or terrain.

So technically it can have up to 1400 range? or can the Q not go past 950?

If the Q hits a unit at the maximum of 950, then yes, it can extend to 1400 units from the cast location.

Alternatively, if it hits a target at point blank range, the total range will only be 450.
