Galio is a mess of a rework

Moody P··77 votes·20,909 views

Fantasy says "anti-mage Warden" Mechanics say "anti-fighter stunbot" Numbers say "full AP nuke machine"

How could anyone have been fooled into believing this rework was an improvement? Were you so impressed by his flashy spells that you didn't see how disgustingly all-encompassing his kit is?

I highly doubt that this version of Galio can ever be balanced and he never has been balanced for almost 2 years now; if he's good in soloQ then he's a problem in competitive, and if he's bad in competitive then he's a troll pick in soloQ. A tank who stat-checks mages in the mid lane with passive bonus magic HP and then goes on to be a hard counter to any and all melee aggression in a 10 mile radius around him is ridiculous, and we've seen time and time again that any attempt to make him reasonable just makes him broken. Especially when Riot makes the mistake of giving him more damage.

If we can't get another rework can we finally put this atrocious new Galio on the shelf where he belongs?

A someone who mained Old Galio and Sej man do I ever fucking hate both of their reworks.

Both were sooo much better before.

I dislike the Galio rework a lot in fact I think it should just be a new champion entirely with Galio getting only minor changes to his kit, like W has new effect cast on enemies for starters, and who knows what else, but to compare it to the fancy Rift Herald that is new Sejuani is just disrespectful to old Sejuani IMO.

thank you for your post

because this is perfectly accurate to what galio is

He was fine before pro play got their hands on him.

Moody P24 votes

so, never?

Infernape2 votes

Exacta.

If he didn't have his current ult and W, he wouldn't be in this limbo of either doing WAY too much damage and being way to reliable in competitive.

Moody P5 votes

riot should let me rework galio

Galiö5 votes

I think I'd do a successful rework ;)

Galuo us either a weak or strong burst mage in solo Q

Or

A stalemate or marksmen protector depending on the meta in competative.

He was temporarily replaced by lissandra for a bit (or zilean if you're Jensen)

Using q champion to protect people in an ardent meta or neutralizing a lane isnt fun.

In solo and competative it's not healthy uses.

Moody P10 votes

he should be pushed far harder into his anti-mage shtick with IMO complete ability changes

it's always annoyed me that despite being pushed as an anti-mage warden none of his mechanics actually protect allies from mages or reward him for doing something involving mages

Galiö10 votes

He just had the kassadin anti mage treatment.

Some sort of DR against magic and a sile.... magic shield.

Bam 'anti mage' time to build full dmg baby.

Moody P3 votes

sad but true.

imo an ability that let him absorb magic damage in an aoe like his current W circle and then turn it into bonus damage for himself would have been a fantastic and fitting mechanic for him

Galiö6 votes

So like his old ult :p

Atleast they gave his W dmg and gave it a ramp... although works off charge time instead of on damage amp.

I feel confident u seen my posts about Galio changes, I narrowed down my thoughts into changing his DR on his W inti the on damage heal he had.

Gives him more MR options and incentive.

Instead of morello hed build spirit visage, which cuts damage a lot from his kit.

Just that one change, changes how Galuo functions on a lot of levels.

My Gameplay+ post on partial W revert gets a bit of views but doesnt seem to have any traction or discussion.

Riot thinks the on damage heal is unhealthier than it actually is.

Galio used to get +90 Armor and MR on top of the heal and was sometimes frustrating, but never overwhelming. So I don't see how a heal WITHOUT the giant stat stick would be OP.

They just keep pushing him more and more into burst mage, he really isnt a tank anymore in any stretch.

Moody P3 votes

was thinking more like maokai old R but specifically into magic damage and then gives him a bunch of damage on his next passive proc(s)

your ideas good

riot needs to sort galios kit out because number changes clearly aren't working

Galiö7 votes

I forgot about that for a bit..

Mao old R Galio old W Galio old R Kassadins E

Those all are interesting mechanics based of spells being cast or being hit or amping dmg

They could have played around those concepts.

Sad they didnt work off of 50% of Galios old kit when reworking Galio

yeah riot trading interesting and unique kits for "MORE CC TANKS NEED CC" kind of sucks

haven't really enjoyed any tanks since S7 because they ruined my favorite Sejuani i'll never not be mad about it

I also dont feel like she has more CC atm XD I do feel bad for Seju mains tbh

Just revert, along with all the others.

Hypochondria97 votes

At some point Riot changed reworks from fixing a champions design flaws to just making more busted ass champions.

MissMikasa5 votes

Agreed. Old Galio was way better and was only the anti-mage. He was never more than that, and had a hard time against AD, especially melees.

This version is a disservice to him and his mains.

Galiö5 votes

I disagree with this kind of. Old galios highest winrates was mostly against Talon and Zed :p

His +90 armor kinda made it hard for AD to kill him.

But I agree he was better, the new one has large windows of power due to low CD, mana cost, basic ability CC

The older one was stronger but moderate CD, high mana costs, CC only in long CD ULT.

Cavesloth2 votes

Yeah he was my one mid pick that could eat Zed and Talon alive. Point of fact he was strong against many of the champs who were BS in low elo, old LB, Kat, etc.

I need my daily Moody P complaint thread to get through the day

Moody P7 votes

what do you think i should do tomorrow? juggernauts being bad, enchanters needing reworks, or roast mages again?

Galiö7 votes

You should just stick with Galio stuff and find a way to get everyone to go to all my threads. Figure out I'm a Galio Re-rework-partialrevert-rework mastermind and have Riot put in my change list cause they are A- to A+

I want more Volibear piss related threads for tomorrow.

A teleporting tank with aoe cc and zero interactive waveclear with nuke ratios.

...yeah, I wonder why everyone thought this would be good for the game.

Mc Raton4 votes

Galio was more fun before his rework. Now its just another generic Ap mid.

Z3Sleeper3 votes

It’s a great kit for a tank that was slapped onto a burst mage. They just needa trash the idea of AP Galio and bring back a balanced tank Galio who does some damage but is mostly there to soak damage and CC.

More power needs to be put into building MR.

Poske1 votes

He shouldnt be allowed to taunt flash. As long as this exists there ll be a problem between lcs and soloq Galio

Also he sort of stunlocks you to death atm.. something has to be done about that

Galiö12 votes

As much as I agree with people Galio is a stat check monster right now his high burst Ratios, i don't agree with the CC thing.

If you land an ult, a full W, and an E immediatly at the end of the full taunt, that's not even 3 seconds of CC maximized.

That's less than one morg bind and she still has an ult.

But at the same time, they can't use ANYTHING during that entire duration other than autoattacks during the taunt, and only directed at Galio.

They can't use anything, but Galio also used 75% of his abilities.

I should hope that a tank has decent lockdown if they landed all of their CC.

He's not a tank. Look at his AP ratios.

He's supposed to be a tank, at least.

His ratios should probably be more in line with Maokai's, though.

I’m okay with him having an AP burst build, they just need to tie things like % health magic shield and % damage reduction more heavily to defensive scaling, and damage more heavily to AP scaling. They should be far more distinguished then they are now.

Difference between Morg and Galio though, Galio bursts you while CCing you, and you can't hurt him back because of aftershock and W damage reduction.

Lunaranul1 votes

Galio's old W, Bulwark, wasn't as unique as it looks on paper. The heal on damage taken is functionally flat damage reduction that diminishes with each tick, but it's flat damage reduction that was so high it could easily roll into the negatives and thus heal Galio. Which is actually ridiculous and eats a huge amount of power budget if the skill is even remotely usable.

The unique aspect was that he could give an ally the resistances, but then it was still Galio himself being healed when that ally is attacked. You're basically using an ally as a Font of Life, which is weird thematically since Galio was supposed to be a selfless protector.

SanKakU1 votes

That's not what his old W did.

It gave **MR and armor **to a target friendly champ, and Galio gained healing each time the target was attacked(don't remember if spells triggered it but I think they didn't) whether it was cast on an ally champ or himself.

Galio already had a magic resist passive which meant casting it on himself was always the way to get more damage, but he wouldn't heal from the W that way if he wasn't targeted. It created an interesting scenario where Galio could take turns being the front line champion with his allies, and I really enjoyed that kind of strategy personally.

worse thing is Riot will see it as a success,

They took an underplayed/forgotten champion like Galio and turned him into a LCSbigplays champion. If Kalista was released today i can assure Riot wouldn't gut her as hard as they did back in the day because long term balance has stopped mattering. They have their own agenda on what they want and every balance change is to push the game into that direction, regardless of the consequences.

They took an underplayed/forgotten champion like Galio and turned him into a...

champion with a lower play rate. Yeah, huge fucking success.
