PSA: Ban rate does not imply the champion is outperforming

The Ecdysiast··4 votes·406 views

There are several champions who aren't out of bounds in terms of their overall performance, but are seen by the playerbase as problems because they either were at one time or simply have mechanics that require more thinking to play around than just knowing your own combos. Then there's an unfounded outcry when those champions receive needed buffs.

Yasuo Yasuo has always been in this spot for both or the latter reason, and is about to receive a buff because he's been hit hard by the crit item changes. Zoe Is also in this state, with people complaining about her getting offensive spells in lane instead of poking her when she goes for them or realizing it's just as likely she'll get a different kind of spell. Vayne Also recently received buffs to her true damage, though there was little outcry about that.

The number of champions stuck in this spot changes from patch to patch, meta to meta, but there are some kits that are more prone to it than others. And at times it can even be a detriment to your team to ban one of them while the enemy picks a champion that's easily stronger.

Thankfully, though, Riot isn't of the same blind mindset as some people here on the boards. They recognize that player bias against an underperforming champion doesn't mean the champion shouldn't be buffed.

So downvote if you will. I'm simply telling the truth of the matter. Whining on the boards when your opinion isn't actually based in relevant facts will achieve nothing.

no what banrate implies is that: "no one wants to deal with that shit"

which means even if its not OP. its just as bad as if it was.

with the sole exception of banrate lagging being a patch or two after a champion as nerfed. because people dont forget very quicky.

It's not "just as bad." Because then you may end up having to fight a champion who is overpowered with little counterplay instead of just learning what you need to do to play around this champion.

The illogical bias against these champions causes players to think less critically both while playing and banning, to the detriment of their team.

So I'll agree, no one wants to deal with it. But people not wanting to deal with learning how to counter play a champion that actually doesn't perform outrageously is a problem with the unfounded bias of players, not the champion.

im what way is it not "just as bad" It ruins the fun of every player facing it. just as if it was OP.

its not as GOOD for the player PLAYING it... but its certainly as BAD for the player FACING it

It doesn't ruin the fun for every player facing it. You'll find plenty of people who brag about how easy it is to play against Yasuo and are very happy when he's picked because they know how to face him.

It's actually much more fun for the player facing him once they know how to beat him.

Contrary to that, there is no learning how to beat a champion that is simply overpowered.

Yasuo never had a ban rate as high as it is now tho, especially not in high elo. Even in diamond+ its over 60% and in Korea diamond+ its almost 80% this patch according to lolalytics.

Zoe is also too strong but idk if the pbe nerfs arent a bit too much

Which really makes no sense, considering ADC has been possible to replace with someone melee who counters Yasuo, particularly Irelia or a juggernaut, for a while now.

And Zoe has never been outperforming.

It's just bias from players, not a problem with the champions.
