Am I missing something?

I just lost lane to a mid lane Fiddlesticks as Vel'koz.

Both the Fiddle and my team were saying that it was quite sad that this happened.

So....am I supposed to be able to do something when the Fidd uses silence into ult into fear? Yeah, there's cleanse, but I didn't know the Fidd was going mid, so I took teleport.

I had to stay far enough away from my minion line so that his E wouldn't get any free damage, far enough, in fact, that my own abilities could just barely reach him, giving him enough time to move out of the way.

I was outfarming him, for a time. That is, until he just started using his ult right on top of me.

To counter the CC he could output, I buy a QSS cause I know that neither Banshee's Veil nor Zhonya's would be enough to save me (and at one point, it did save me in a teamfight). Not to mention, they also had a Karthus and Lux, so, the QSS isn't a bad buy at all......despite it being on fricken Vel'koz. (oh, and I was the only person to buy QSS on my team).

So, was I doing something wrong? Should I have been more aggressive, and try to force the Fiddle out of lane? Or was it that my teammates (and the Fiddle) didn't know what they were talking about?

Hey,

After checking your build setup early game, the reason why you most likely lost lane was because you decided to max Q at level one.

Fiddlesticks is very ability reliant and has an ample CD on Dark Wind (his E). Maxing Q at level one gives him the ability to freeze lane and E you constantly when trying to farm. Next time, take W level one and immediately start shoving the first wave into him. This forces him to E waves to get CS as his basic attack damage is not enough early on to secure minion kills under turret (Fiddlesticks stands at a whopping 48.4 AD at level 1 --- Azir has 52 AD at level 1 and he still needs to AA melee minions twice after turret shoots at it twice to secure the minion at 100% HP). Not only does this help you get enough gold for item 3111 (as someone else stated, absolutely necessary when laning against Fid), it stalls his Protobelt early on.

Next: jungle. You were going against a Xin jungle with a Yi on your team. Early on, Xin wins that matchup. Taking W and getting early mid priority allows you to help your jungler as well to shut down Xin's advantage early on and allows Yi to get his powerfarm he needs to be able to spike in mid-late game. The lane was pretty even (as was the gold and XP gain) until 9 min when Fiddlesticks got a kill on you.

(Unfinished, will look to finish soon, but that's just a quick rundown of what had to happen to win lane early on.)

You can't diddle the Fiddle.

Hmm.... I'd have to play the matchup a few times to get a good feel for it.

What I typically do, though, when I can't stand toe-to-toe with an opponent I can't battle is just farm from range and stay under tower. Sometimes, that's the proper play. If you make him continually push up to your tower, you at least expose him to the possibility of ganks. Fiddle doesn't have escapes.

If you were having trouble fighting the Fid then I would've roamed to try and make plays to help the rest of your team out a bit so they have a chance to get ahead and you can possibly pick up some kills with you ult.

ward one side and stick to that side when he is absent from lane, means you can atleast see him ult channel and run or stop it

also

item 3111 is pretty much a requirement when fighting him in lane

Don't let him into range, he is easy to poke down, if he ever tries to sustain with his W you just E him (although if he is good and you don't have enough movement speed/arnt quick enough he can just avoid the e after seeing you slowly walk up, sometimes you are better off throwing another longer range ability while pretending to walk up in order to bait him into canceling his W)

You don't necessarily want to be behind your minions unless you are trying to w the enemy wave, otherwise you want to be towards the side of the lane where his e bounces wont hinder you.

If it makes you feel better, awhile ago I won lane against a Darius pretty hard, got a few solo kills on him and his team was even laughing about it.

I took Soraka

(I also got the first tower in top lane)

You respected fiddle too much. Go corrupting, max w, perma shove him. Teleport is the a fine summoner and you should invest into a blue trinket and lots of control wards. Your entire goal early game is just to force fiddle to lane under tower. Harass him if he tries to be aggressive, but you win every stage of this match up if you shove and have vision.
