Would it not be easy to balance game by going off the 2 top banned champs and nerfing them?

Currently kat,zed 2 top banned and I think many can agree they need to be nerfed.

that would be stupid² because what gets banned is largely decided by bronze and silver players who most likely have no gamesense, also its very subjective.

currently the most banned champs Sejuani: maybe needs a nerf. i dont see her beeing that much superior to gragas amumu etc anymore Hecarim: has loads and loads of counterplay, doesnt need a nerf at all Leblanc: hard to be effective with in the lategame, fine as is Katarina: maybe a slight nerf would be appropriate Irelia: literally no reason to further nerf her

Also its not that hard to go on lolking and look for the most banned champs instead of guessing them and guessing them wrong twice...

There is a really big discrepancy between "what is" overpowered and "what is percieved" so. Nerfing the champions who get a lot of bans would legitimate the philosophy of "I don't need to learn how play against X, I just need to ban it and make sure it gets banned when I'm not the leader"

Now, I'm really against it! We already have tons of threads which are full of complaints on X champions (and get lots of upvotes too) while the real issue is that ppl complaining usually don't want to adapat to a certain gameplay in order to nullify said champion.

Lets talk about Kata, anything with an hard CC makes her useless, if she comboes her ulti with Morgana it might be a pain but really that's not Kata issue but team comp issues that can be countered by picking more than one hard CC. (Cho'Gath devastates her alone).

Zed can be a real pain if played good, but that's it! A champion played good should be rewarded for it, expecially if said champion doesn't perform well if not played good. Not to mention that Zed in particular gets a real hit by enemies building either a must item (Zhonya) or a QSS.

Notice that I don't want to say simply that this champions are easy to deal with and shouldn't be looked at. But they are more than counterable.

I'd rather have more strong champions so that good gameplay against average/low gameplay leaves the better ones with real satisfaction and notable impact on the match.

Nope, what ppl kept banning where either champion found to be toxic (old Kassa) or percieved op (Zed, Yasuo, Kata). The tendency is to ban champions that will snowball hard because you don't trust your team and even if you manage to be safe in your lane against them (and even win it) you will always fear that other team mates will have them fed anyway and so you ban them.

Tbh this community sucks in spotting what's OP. Sure they can spot strong picks and who gets advantage from X change to items/skills/etc but most of them are: "I lost hard agains X hence X is overpowered. I didn't take in consideration anything about his kit and proceeded playins as I used to and since my skill is nowhere to be doubt X champion needs a nerf asap".

Honestly pre nerf Yasuo was totally fine and zed is fine now, strong doesn't mean OP. If you prefer every1 to be Bard tier you are welcome to create a game yourself. I like to have a lot of strong champions so that the skill involved into use and learn them matters something rather than "go for the lamest thing" you find.

I'm sorry but I've never had any trouble against them when used by average skilled players and I'm average skilled myself. I brought you arguments, you wrote pre-made sentences with 0 actual feedback because you just need to say "X is op" for this to be true.

My statement stays. Good players should be rewarded for playing good, in the hands of average players those champions are more or less weak (and were like that even before) so this means they aren't OP. OP is a champion that doesn't require skill to have good or above average performances.

Indeed.

So then the top 2 get nerfed...then a new top 2 come in...then we nerf those 2, then another 2, or do you not notice the cycle yet?

Daen2 votes

Easy? Yes. Accurate? Absolutely not.

Perceived power and actual power are very different concepts, and banning can also be a much better indicator of design than balance. For example, Shaco/Evelynn are banned due to them being annoying, not necessarily overpowered.

banning and pick rates are who people think are powerful. That is not the same as who is powerful in reality.

But Zed is like 7th over the past month. Kat is 5. So to get to the two you bring up, the top 7 at least would need to be nerfed. While I agree the balance team does a poor job from time to time (Lucian all of last season as an example) just a straight nerf to top bans doesn't address why they are banned. Take Sej for a moment, she's banned because she is a team fighter. She helps her team in a more noticeable way than most champions. So why should she be nerfed vs someone like Amumu who does the same thing but people don't seem to enjoy on the same level?

It's not very easy to balance just by nerfing the two most OP champs. Partially because it becomes hard to predict who will end up on top after the OP champs are nerfed.

And don't forget about perfect Imbalance. when the meta shifts, so does the champions viability. Because we had tankier laners, with lower amounts of burst. Vladimir became good again, despite not having any real buffs to his kit, or nerfs to his counters, but his counters are push out in favor of tanks.

LOL Trist at the bottom of the ban list... anyone else remember when she was #1 to ban? Lolz.

and she never got really nerfed. Meta changes.

That's what kills me about the OMG NERF threads... i think League is at its highest level of balance since I started playing in S3. Tanks are popular again, which allows me to play who I want in the jg / top without getting "more dmgz newb", all the Lee and Zed cry cry but when I see one of them on the opposite team I typically lick my lips because they will be a feed fest as they typically pick the "OP" champ, not the good one.

So you have never seen Xin'Zhao release eh ? It would give you a whole new meaning to the "Over Powered" term. :P

Just Youtube "xin'zhao release HotShotGG"

or just buff their counters.

Counterpicking is not a good thing to base balance on.

Ban rates are very heavily influenced by player perception, which often does not match the actual state of the game. League is surprisingly well-balanced at the moment, with a few minor outliers here and there. It's not a good idea for Riot to put too much trust in such subjective statistics like Ban Rates, Win Rates, or Pick Rates.
