Season 6 blues story, I just need to git gud I guess.

Iv been playing League for about a year now, little longer. I started in late October early November in 2014, and played all through season 5. Il basically remember season 5 as "my first season" getting to play it start to finish, despite starting in season 4, though only the tail end of it.

When I started I had a lot to learn, I used IP to purchase champs here and there, and learned that some of the champs I bought with my hard earned IP were not very good choices, because they wernt very strong. Essentially I was "trying out and still learning" on what were considered somewhat under-powered champs. Urgot is a good example, only a few months in I was attracted to the concept of his kit, and bought him. Today he is still one of my favorites, but I find it hard to play him as much because hes less reliable than other champs I also like in the same positions.

Eventually I developed skill with a few of my favorite champs, and felt that skill could beat out a champs balance position. A true master could overcome the odds, or at least a clever and skilled play could overcome the odds if mastery wasnt achievable. In season 5 I felt like there were over and under powered champs, but they could still be beaten given an opponent with determination and understanding on how to do it.

I thought the tank meta was interesting, and it certainly made for some crazy team-fights that took an age to resolve as all those meat-shields CC'd each other trying to get to the back line.

When season 6 info started coming in, I was fairly excited. The keystone masteries sounded really cool, and I still like most of them now. I like the masteries more overall now actualy, though I do miss aspects of the old ones, overall Im in favor of this change and enjoy it. I find some of the new champs to be visually interesting, and feel they were developed by people who wanted to make a "cool character thats fun" even if champs arnt always balanced on release.

One thing about season 6 I dont like is I really dont feel like playing non-META champs is as viable as it was in season 5. The marksman changes seemed to focus on just a few, and even then only some of those focused on got very good deals, with a few coming out super OP. Thats part of why I feel playing non-META champs is so less viable, these freakishly strong reworks and "always have been, always will be" strong champs with months of above average win rates just seem to not only crowd out the other champs, they crowd out some of the fun of the game.

It is my opinion that some real effort needs to be put into bringing up the win% of other champs, and see if the environment of more champs being played instead of just the few powerhouse-outliers can bring more even feel to the game.

So far this season always has at least 2-3 of a certain 10-12 character pool in every match as either pick or ban. Though with some of the WIDELY questioned and loathed Xin buffs, hes had a sharp upshot in my last few games. I enjoy a game the most when I feel like I lost because my opponent was better than me, and that I could learn a lesson from that match. I do not enjoy the a game when I feel like CHAMP X IS 1.35 TIMES STRONGER THAN YOU, and player Y is abusing them so I have to play well beyond my abilities just to keep up with some broken crap.

Thats just it, weather intentional or not so many champs have proven to be broken so far this season either by the attempts to shorten the matches with frail/low damage turrets, the new masteries, or reworks that made them crazy strong. The game for me feels like its in a state of chaos, and it makes me afraid that sooner or later, Im going to stop having fun... stop playing.

I recently bought Jhin with RP, cause I like his concept, look, and kit. The next day I thought to myself, was spending money on that a mistake? Will I even enjoy LoL in 2 months if this chaos continues, OR GETS WORSE!?

I just want the game to go back to a place where I feel like I can develop skill with any champ and still be a match for any other player of similar skill and their champ, and move away from the feeling that I have to play a META champ or probably lose "cause freelo" champs are more important than skill.

TL;DR: Reading R hurd, and life will be hard for you, start looking for ways out now!

My thoughts

Pre season early season 5 Bruiser junglers were op as fuck cause of Dev, not a fun time

Early season 5 Super exciteing time, everything felt like it could be valuable in the meta, and that is what we saw in the lcs, abit of everything. Hell even Sion showed his face for abit, we even saw urgot!

Mid season 5 The tank meta, absolutely disgusting meta, every assassin in the game suddenly got thrown out of the meta, even lee sin sucked for the first time in ages. It was pick hur dur sejuani and press W as your mana comes back faster then you spend it.

End season 5 The game finnally starting to repair itself, sure the "juggernauts" were pretty annoying, but I think most people could agree that a lot of picks were viable, the juggernauts were more like a annoying itch, they wern't exactly ruining the game.

pre season Early season 6 Just about everything was OP as the player base begged for more bans from riot

Early season 6 I do agree with you where right now it does feel like "pick or ban a champ", while yes I feel like this meta is somewhat healthy, I do most defaintly agree with you that I feel very punished when I play none meta champions.

Thanks for commenting, I know that was a long post.

I think your anaysis would sync up with most peoples feelings also.

I did say I though the tank meta was interesting, I also know it made certain champs see less play, and thats never good. The only thing I liked about the tank meta was that there was less deletion before you could react. Sure you may be CC'd to hell and back and still be a dead man walking, but still was nice not to be poped like a water baloon. The big problem with it was that in any "role meta" be it assassin or tank, is it narrows the played champions in matches too much.

Honestly Im searching my feelings on the game and trying to figure out if I will be moving forward playing the champs I like, or taking the META champs and trying to abuse their overtuned/overloaded/overpowered kits. Il probably stick with the champs I like, but that may lead to me being frustrated away from the game. :/

my thoughts is that certain champions are given toolkits that allow them to always be reliable picks even in seasons where they are not meta.

Example Ahri or Malphite, both have a toolkit that provides decent damage and a good ammount of cc. Being hit by a Ahri charm is equilvent to a morgana q, and everyone praises morgana snares, so ahri in her toolkit provides reliable cc and amazeing damage. then if you give her the slow staff, it can work with her entire toolkit. Then you have malphite who offers less damage then ahri but a toolkit packed full of cc and one of the games best ults.

These two champions will never be bad champions unless they are completely gutted.

These are the best type of champions to main, and one thing I want to point out is, their are many champion who have the malphite, ahri situation. Many champions have very well rounded kits that allow them to constantly be good even when they are "not meta" Find champions like these and find one you love. That is what I did and it is what allows me to find a nice balance between "meta" and "none meta"
