I still don't understand why Garen has a silence.

Can somebody please explain it. It just doesn't make sense to me. Not for his kit, not his thematic, not for his lore. Why the fuck does he have a silence?

op is correct. his q should be a 1.5 second stun. makes more sense that his target gets stunned for being hit by a giant sword.

Even if Garen didn't have the silence he's going to shit on you as Wukong. No need to be salty about it

False, I never lose lane to Garen or Darius. Only person I can never beat in lane as Wukong is Singed. Singed destroys me.

Then those Garens and Dariuses are trash. The only way you beat those two is if they fuck up monumentally or if it's their first time playing them

Invite me to 1v1 right now, I can show you better than I can tell you.

actually it does make sense thematically. Demacia is anti magic, garen is high rank in demacian army. obviously aside from his anti magic armour he needs a way to combat mages. spells are often linked to a vocal keyword that triggers it if you cant speak you cant cast a spell. Boom post busters

ok well it fits his lore, but the petricite they use is from the bark of anceint trees mixes with ash and limestone to from a kind of conglomerate/ or cement they then call petricite. which they make their city out of. and they drag Galio out to absorb magic as he is also made from petricite. during battles that enter beyond thier walls

i would have to do some more fact checking, but if i do recall correctly a single demacians soldier don't have the petricite on them or in thier armor. or they would have no need to drag Galio with them. So in that since unless he was fighting IN in very close to demacia or had galio around.. nothing would be there to absorb the magic

or i could be wrong and he does have it in his armor in which case... yeah even so such a concept it would then make to take less magic damage.. some maybe more innate magic resist.. and the only reason i REALLY dislike the silence is i cant use things like summoner 4 or pounce to get away and to escape.. not to engage him.

and stopping THAT makes no sense... only the damage and CC coming AT him.. and he already has absurd tenacity for that... so thematically it still makes no sense for how petricite is used.. its defensive. when he uses his silence is on an offensive strike.. and that makes no real thematic sense

Demacians are typically anti-magic, no? Silence=no spells. Besides, his q would be more lackluster without it, being only an small auto-attack and movement speed boost.

I think he meant from a kit perspective.

I think he meant from a kit perspective.

He also mentioned lore and theme (both answered by the fact that he is a true Demacian warrior). As for kit, it really helps to initiate trades by negating any abilities or escapes they may use, not to mention it is a convenient interrupt for the Juggernaut.

Too convenient.

What's wrong with that?

so he doesn't suck TOOOO much. Now he at least has something going for him. And someone can probably give a logical explanation

Petricite is demacians Anti magic crafting resource. It reacts to magic. So odds are Garren probably has some inherent magic but its largely dampened by his equipment which reacts to him or enemy's attempting to use magic. Galio is made of this stuff, was not even created as a construct but a giant statue of it they would drag to battle fields because it produced a giant anti magic field.

anyhow point being his silence may not be "oh my sword makes you not talk" but that it leaves behind a lingering field of anti magic in their body if it cuts them when its triggered. I'd like to point to the Giant sword of light he dramatically summons out of thin air and his sis Lux as evidence that he is probably a inherently strong mage but has been trained and specialized into a anti magic warrior as Demacians have a real stigma over it. His personal MP does not get used for spell casting but to trigger the Petricite in his wepon and armor. Given how easily he achieves this, or that he can cast magic thru the anti magic fields (something in lore that's been done but requires very strong mages Galio lore as example) Garren might be very much magically adept.

Ok sure but why1 votes

Because with all the forms of CC in the game, if Garen is unable to silence people, there will be very few people unable to just simply knock him away as he begins spinning

what would you give Garen instead of a silence that wouldn't just make him be a complete joke of a champion? he can't have a stun or root due to him being a juggernaut. Displacements would just screw with his kit royally... only slows would be of use to him and even then there are so many skills in the game that would just displace/stun/root/slow him or just movement abilities that would completely screw with his kit so even giving his Q a slow instead would just royally screw him in every way against anyone with those types of abilities.

So please tell me, what would you replace his silence with that won't make him be completely useless as a champion?
