ranked vs non-ranked mmr?

since season 3 i have been playing almost exclusively ranked and have been silver every season i ranked directly into silver 1 during season 3 and season 4 and 5 i was demoted to bronze from my promos and easily climbed back to silver yet in season 6 with the introduction of dynamic que stopped playing ranked after got promoted to silver again, because i didn't see a point in try to go for gold this season because i felt like it would mean nothing.

so i have been playing normal games... but lately i have frankly been winning a LOT, so much so that i find it rather weird.. I have won.. 12 out of my last 14 non ranked games. I'm not sure if this is because the enemy team isn't trying or what. because there were ALL EASY victories.

i mean i got an S in 4 out of the last 6 games... all of which were wins.

I'm not sure WHY i am facing teams that are frankly just SOO BAD compared to me.

i know i haven't really played unranked for a long time. could to be that my unranked MMR is nowhere near as high as my ranked MMR? or are people just flat out not even trying in unranked? but if that is the case wouldn't MY team also be not trying?

my ranked matches are NEVER this easy.

what is the deal here? i want to play league for fun, but i still want a CHALLENGE... lately in unranked i feel like im playing vs bots...

i don't think i have improved THAT much...

Normals MMR is separate from ranked mmr, so playing ranked doesn't increase normals mmr at all, and so many people have their ranked mmr overtake their normals mmr. (This sometimes leads to diamonds having low silver normals MMR for example.)

People usually try new champs/roles/builds in normals, compared to in ranked where people will pretty much always be using their best champs in their best role. Normals also has no restrictions on who people can queue with, so sometimes you'll get weird games with diamonds and bronze together.

Going on a big win streak in normals will quickly bolster your normals MMR though and eventually you'll be facing scarier people. If you play your main champ(s)/roles in normals, you may even find you're playing against higher ranked people than you might expect yourself to be capable of (since as above, many of them are probably screwing around, so plat's will play at a silver-gold level more often than not).

thank you that was very helpful!!!

I think unranked mmr decays... I used to be against gold/plats in normals, then I stopped playing for 4 months and BOOM bronzes/silvers...

that theory would explain what has happened if its true, but i thought MMR didn't decay...

Is my theory, because it made no sense for me to be against silvers and bronze when I've always been gold.

most people play norms to screw around, your playing looking for a challenge so on even skill levels you win by superior motivation
