Why does it take riot so long to do something about Yasuo?

If you only play blind normals with no banning, then you know the issue I'm about to discuss. (I don't play rank cause I just want to have fun without the added pressure of the rank system).

Firstly, it was always Zed in mid lane. None Zed players cringed ever non ranked normal game. Zed, was hell to lane against, dodging skill shots, poking you down, good farm, no resource so good tower taking was no problem while gaining a lvl over opponent, huge combo damage. It took Riot forever to tune it down. Meaning while, we the non Zed players are the ones who had to face this nightmare for months.

Now Yasuo has taken his place. Every game I play, I face Yasuo mid lane. The thing is, I played as Yasuo once upon a time, but never realized how annoying it is to face him until lately. It like the same problems you faced before against Zed, have just been passed onto Yasuo. Except he is more annoying with his windwall and infinite dashes.

It's like you are forced to stay under your tower and do nothing but farm. Otherwise you will be just wasting mana trying to poke Yasuo because either he will dodge everything you throw at him/ blocking it with windwall/shield, or he will heal any damage with Warlords bloodlust once low on hp. Don't forget the damage reduction from phantom dancer. And oh yea, his shield regenerates when he ults.

This champ has so many layers of defense that it is beyond overloaded. Just to make my point clear, I repeat.

Layers of defense...

  1. Dodging skill shots.
  2. Windwall
  3. Passive shield
  4. Heal with warlock blood lust.
  5. Damage reduction from item 3046
  6. Ult regenerates his shield.

Yasuo, has an absurdly strong laning phase and riot has been dragging their feet on the issue. This has been made abundantly clear on the boards.

Why does riot take so long to address the issue?

Although Yasuo can be considered a problem for most players, mostly due to his lack of ability costs and lane dominance, he still has weaknesses that allow you to play against him.

  1. He can't dash forever, the ability itself has a low cool down yes but the minions, monsters and champions he dashes on or through get a cool down that does not allow Yasuo to dash to them again for a small amount of time. (10 Seconds at rank 1 and lowers to 6 seconds at rank 5)

  2. His shield passive takes time to load up as he needs to move about and it's easy to get ride of if you're a ranged champion or have ranged abilities, if the Yasuo is smart he won't use the wind wall to block something that would only damage is shield as he may need to use it to avoid a stun skill shot during an actual fight or a gank.

  3. Windwall has a long cool down , meaning you can work around it and bait it out and punish him when the ability is on it's cool down, and it is useless against some champions making the ability worthless.

  4. Warlords isn't a large problem for champions with burst or ranged champions who can stay away from him preventing him from life stealing health.

  5. His ult regening his passive is there to encourage the Yasuo to engage or keep himself alive in fights, however this should be dealt with as the new frozen mallet build makes this too powerful in fights.

  6. Yasuo's strength also comes from his ability to farm better than most champions due to his lack of ability costs and spamable E and Q to secure CS on low health minions meaning if you can keep his farm low he'll have a tough time keeping up damage wise.

  7. Yasuo is weaker when he has low crit chance, especially when he's against someone building armour as his ult's ability to ignore armour when he crits is hard on him as he will rarely hit the crits to make use of the ignored armour passive.

  8. Yasuo doesn't build life steal for some time causing him to rely on the doran's blade, pots and (if he's taken it) warlords to sustain himself in fights and lane.

  9. Yasuo's Q poke against Melee champions is a reason people don't like him as it becomes hard to trade, problem is a lot of champions can poke melee's just like Yasuo such as Riven with an E W and Q'ing away making it impossible to trade as your stunned, or Mordekaiser who can constantly throw out an E every 5 seconds at you and Malphite who can E you as well and steal movement speed making it impossible to catch the damned mountain.

  10. Itemisation is a problem for all champions not just Yasuo, other champs like Vayne will pick up item 3046 as well making her harder to kill and champions like Jax pick up a item 3146 making it basically impossible to out sustain them in a fight.

  11. Blind pick doesn't determine if a champion gets nerfed or not, Riot usually take problems into account from Plat and up as players can make the most of a champions skill and itemisation in the higher Elo.

  12. Other champions have layers of defence as well, Riven's shield that she can spam every few seconds late game, Mordekaiser's passive that he can constantly keep up in combat if he chains his abilities right, Lissandra's Ult makes her untargetable and heals her if she does it on herself or stuns the enemy she targets it to and deals a ton of damage and Yi's meditation heals him for missing health and gives him damage reduction, Yi also can pick up a item 3046, Mobility can also be counted as a layer of defence as it lets you get away from enemies.

  13. Phantom dancer is a 1 target only item, meaning it's passive to block 12% of damage dealt by a champion only applies to 1 of the 5 on the team meaning the other 4 still deal there full damage and even then 12% isn't to much, the item doesn't make him unkillable.

  14. Yasuo forces a lot of people out of lane early when he levels up to level 2 allow him to take his E and dash to the enemy champion and start inflicting some damage while they are still level 1 before waltzing off, when against a Yasuo friendly minions are your enemy as well since he can use them against you, a good way to avoid this is to push the lane harder at level 1 so you level up first or stand behind your minions rather than next to them or in the middle of the wave so he can't dash to you when he levels up.

And that's it, inform me if I missed anything, though this might be a tad bit bias as I don't play Yasuo so I don't really know how to play him but I generally get an idea from others playing him against me, Persoanlly I don't like Yasuo myself but that's mostly ifthe game gets past 30-40 minutes, he gets fed or i'm not playing Mordekaiser against him but ya! feel free to criticise me on this, though i'd not like it if people just spouted profanity. :D
