Why are so many people complaining Sejuani isnt "leader" enough?

Skorch··11 votes·1,159 views

Ok state balance or whatever, but why have i seen 2 posts TODAY about her not being "a leader" (and im going to ignore the fact that they are most likely upvote farming.)

Ill tell you the most leading ability i can think of... Kled's ULT, and JarvanIV E. Those are the only leader-esque themed abilities. And thats about all there is ability wise. They cant just copy other champions abilities.

"What about gameplay-wise? How does a Leader PLAY? Themed abilities dont matter, she doesnt FEEL like a leader." Hmm, i would say a leader is someone who either. Thoughtfully coordinates decisions in the back line Ashe OR charges in and tries to decimate their front lines... HMMMMMM Sejuani Dashes in, Large AOE ult, then uses large sweeping atta.. OH HEY LOOK IT FITS.

Listen im not gonna say wether or not its an upgrade, or success, or whatever. Im not a Sejuani main, I dont have any idea how she works. But you know what, if you wanna hate on it, you can do DAMN better than "I'ts not LEADER enough!" That is the most lazy cop-out argument i have ever seen. (well not really there are a lot of pathetic arguments on the boards.) But for Godsake, this is just depressing.

Maybe because, oh I don't know, it was specifically stated in a Dev blog as one of the goals for her rework by Solcrushed (the designer reworking her).

  • Tap more into the cavalier / warleader fantasy We would like to have moments where it feels like Sejuani is actively leading and inspiring her allies. We would also like to add more elements to her kit that alludes to the cavalier fantasy who is always on the move ready to rush in on her opposition.

You can't fault people for expecting something they were told to expect & point out not getting what they were expecting.

Even then, as i said, GAMEPLAY-wise she acts fairly good as a leader.

Ill quote someone else on this thread:

No but seriously leaders are more than frontline people. They plan the attack in an opportune way, just like how sej's new stun does. She still leads fights due to her passive. Leaders are people that motivate and make people work together (Pretty much what her stun does!) and not just retarded Yis or Yasuos that go balls deep 0 vision. Come on.

And "Leadership accuracy" is a fairly weak point when talking about a champion. Call her changes dumb, not her thematic accuracy (which is actually pretty close)

People dislike the idea of her new Passive being proc'ed by other champions.

It leads to situations where Sejuani's partner/melee teammates can engage for her and she stuns the target from distance/follows up after her ally's engage.

So, instead of being that cavalier that leads the charge and stuns for her team (all by herself, one of the big reasons people liked her) she now works better when her melee allies are nearby and literally do the work for her.

And, probably a thing mentioned a thousand times by now, she represents a Barbarian Warleader. That means, for most of us, that she should have a lot of individual Power, and that she doesn't rely on "allies" to help her do her job, and that she should be the first one who engages the enemy.

She is not a Tactician, she is a Wild Boar on a pig, that likes to murder everything in her path and all by herself. Now she looks like a weird Braum, enabling her allies to do cool stuff, while she chills behind them (mandatory bad punz).

Because that was one of Riot's goals for her rework, and based on the kit I've seen so far, they've failed spectacularly. I'll have to play it to be certain but the new kit looks terrible.

Why does it need to be conveyed that she's a leader in her gameplay and why is it just as or more important than keeping her as a badass frost tank? Do we need to give Volibear Swain 'leader' abilities too, even though their gameplay already has clear direction and character?

gameplay should always come first, and Sejuani's gameplay on the PBE is on the same level of excitement as watching a deer take a shit

I think because riot anounced that she will feel more like a leader

but i dont give a shit about it

I want a strong, functional champion and not some forced teamwork gimmick

Tanks seem more teamwork oriented by definition. "Strong functional champs" probably steers more towards skirmishers, assassins and divers

the majority of tanks besides the supports (and even Tahm Kench) are very self sufficient and don't need other teammates to optimize their contributions; they can do their job alone, they just need the follow up.

Sejuani will now rely on having a melee champion who can make up for her gutted sticking power so she can stack on as many people as possible and make the most of her E in a quick time frame. and it feels like ass to play, so I'm going to bitch about it even if it's not going to be changed

I think the idea of a synergy with melee-champs is good, but the way they made it is really bad, she relies too much on it

I'd rather they allowed her W to proc the stun if she hits it on frozen targets. Allowing her to do sweeping AoE stuns with skill.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, LET'S PUT ALL HER POWER INTO A POINT AND CLICK STUN.

What about Sivir R?

Forgot that existed. About as much as i forgot Sivir existed.

I mean, she's still great at leading the charge with her massive defensive steroid + slow immunity that persists for up to 3 seconds upon taking damage.

But guys, planning the team's strategy and creating an opportune way of engaging instead of mindlessly rushing in isn't good leadership! We must have some ballsdeep every time shit!!

(and im going to ignore the fact that they are most likely upvote farming.)

I picked a new and interesting way to upvote farm ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If I was trying to upvote farm I wouldn't have wrote out a 400 word thread outlining every aspect of why I think it's wrong and spent all night responding to comments in said thread. I would have titled it Nerf Lee Sin with the body text being ^ and it would have more upvotes by now.

I wrote that thread to address a single thematic issue with the kit, that the most effective way to play Sejuani in skirmishes especially but also in teamfights with tankier teammates is to wait out their engage and effectively let them lead. This is a thematic issue and a glaring one at that, and it's birthed directly from the way her E works.

It's also not the only argument I made against the Sejuani rework, I made a who other thread on the gameplay elements, IMO it's the better of the two threads. I just decided it would be fun to pick apart the thematic failings of the kit as well.

The most concise answer is while she has CC, she doesn't have any direct utility to her allies. She doesn't give them buffs or debuff the enemy. She doesn't make the people around her any better directly.

Literally just being around melee champs gives them free braum passives.

Because when people dont agree with something, they will look to every little nitpicking shit they can find and hang on to it for dear life.

I always hated these arguments that deem a champion a "failure" because he isn't "connected to himself" enough. If you were around when jhin was released you'd know what i was talking about, people complaining about ridiculous shit like why isn't jhin making people into trees and what not..
