silver elo harder to climb out of than bronze? WHY because in bronze its easy to carry 1v5 becuase even when the enemy are fed.. they're bad...

in silver there is about a 50/50 chance they actually know how to play halfway decently. and a high chance that despite any skill advantage you might have... when that one 13 kill champion at 12 min has a 5k gold lead on you. your greater skill isn't going to be enough to make up for that gold difference...

so why do this scenario even exist?

well one of the biggest issues is that riot thinks its ok to put new players who have never played league before in silver...

i can guarantee you... ANY player who has had to CLIMB out of bronze carrying bronzes is going to be better than ANY player who ranked DIRECTLY into silver. (smurfs don't count and i have away around that i can post if anyone is interest but now isn't the time)

so when you have new players in silver...they feed their ass off... but why...

well the issues is this new players do NOT realize that NOT DYING is exceedingly MORE important than getting a kill. yeah every bronze person is like "my teammates are noobs they keep dying so i got to get kills to carry" well that's the issue... they ALL think like that.. even WHEN their bad.. that 0/11Nasus thinks maybe THIS time he can 1v1 that 17 kill Darius.

he has 17 kills we got to get the shutdown gold.

i have even had one teammate say... its ok that i keep dying... im not worth much gold anymore and i can get shutdown gold on him.

STOP DYING.

i mean one of the reasons the old item 3301 was so great is it allowed you to play SAFE as support.

you dont need to win lane.. all you need to do is not LOSE LANE

The problem with Silver is that everyone tries to fight all the time over and over, in any fight, no matter what, until one team is so unreasonably far ahead that there's literally nothing you can do in any lane or anywhere on the map, no matter how good you are or think you are. This is why most of the games are so one-sided. People don't understand that dying is not worth a kill. You can easily, as shown in many LCS, etc.., games have next to no kills or deaths and still win. YOU DON'T NEED KILLS TO WIN AN OBJECTIVE BASED GAME. <-- This is the lesson that people don't understand in low ELO.

Pale Pirate6 votes

To be honest, winning the game by avoiding fights and getting objectives is too LCS. You can't cooperate with 5 random people via microphone on LoL.

Undying Gaze2 votes

I feel like that's not necessary true. Many players cooperate well, not perfectly of course, but well enough to succeed in solo queue. It doesn't take complete cooperation and syncopation to have the mindset of understanding that it is in fact an objective-oriented game and to focus to that end. There are still many ways to communicate what you plan to do and when you plan to do it. Pinging, of course, being the easiest, but it's not actually that time consuming or difficult to just type something like "heading to X in X, try to push lane", or ".. be ready", or anything of the type to convey and promote cooperation and teamwork. I agree that LCS have huge advantages when it comes to creating actual strategies and such, but they also are playing against other teams that also have that advantage. If both teams are "5 random people" then neither team has an advantage in regards to communication or cooperation (with the exception of duo queue to some extent) and therefore if you make the effort to create that positive communication, you can easily come out ahead, and have that objective control, as long as people aren't giving away extremely large advantages for nothing.

It's possible to lead by example though, so if you do well individually and then show restraint during fights (when appropriate), most people will follow your lead unless they're already too tilted for anything to make a difference anyway.

Omg, they are like moths to a flame in Silver, what i really love watching is how after 2 team fight loses in a row they will go looking for the enemy team in pairs, not rotate to push, or maybe sneak some tower dmage, they roam the jng looking to die again and again and again, and then insist that everyone else join them after doing so like wtf. Or my truly favorite is the 2-3 man sprint to meet their whole team at a baron or dragon after losing a team fight like they are gonna actually do something about it, get killed, and then spam ping for the one person left alive to go 1v5 at the base turret like its gonna happen

Undying Gaze1 votes

The best part of that situation is that they forget creeps even exist as well, and then proceed to be 100-200 farm behind at 30 minutes, which turns into complaining when they lose about their team or about the champion that for some unknown reason beats them with ease.

Silver 3 and 4 is ESPECIALLY hard to get out of because of all the "paratroopers" (people who casually play placements, get a token Silver rank they can't reasonably defend in their next 20 games). Half the time you have to work with 1 or 2 of these guys all the time.

Riot should stop placing new accounts in mid Silver.

zaire903 votes

Oh is this why I get those teammates that are exceptionally just bad

junglerboy161 votes

Well think about it, the way they do placements you start from a baseline MMR and then adjust your MMR based on what you win/lose.

The problem being that it is easy to get carried when matched with a higher MMR team and then do passably when facing the low bronzes, but you can't get placed above silver something when starting ranked for the first time, meaning they're too high to carry bronze, but not high enough to get reliably carried by higher elo players.

There are a ton of people in gold with like 50 games who basically just got a friendly roll of good teams and don't really know how to play as well.

People need to understand that lanes have win conditions. If you're playing against Pantheon with ignite, your win condition is not dying early. If you're playing any adc against draven, your win condition is not letting him cash in or even denying stacks by killing him. If you're playing Caitlyn, your win condition is out CSing your opponent in lane and poking them down. Each lane is situation and has different win conditions. Winning lane can even be considered going even in CS since you'll scale harder late game.

Project omen4 votes

Depends. If you're playing something like Pantheon Renekton Leblanc Jayce you kinda wanna make sure you do win the lane, cauz that's where you are designed to be relevant. Mostly.

Douglas Funnie3 votes

You lose lane if you don't win a lane. This thread is invalid.

DarkRitual19 votes

Completely false. You can stall a lane untill laning phase is over. I've done it when I get mid (my secondary) and play Morgana. Against other waveclear mages it's easy to force a stall where they can't push and roam easily. Sometimes you get a gank and gain advantage, but other times you just maintain things so your jungler can camp your botlane to snowball the hypercarry. Sometimes that's all you need.

Douglas Funnie4 votes

If the opponent has more gold than you at the end of laning phase, you lost the lane. If your tower gets destroyed before the opponent's tower, you lost the lane.

That doesn't mean you lost the game, though. A player can still win even if they've lost their lane. It's a team game after all.

nice table16 votes

that's not exactly how it works, lets say you are a wukong laning against a pantheon and by the end of laning you are 20 cs behind, you still won lane even though you are behind in CS and gold because a pantheon should be way more ahead to actually have done good in lane.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

You are the problem with low elo if you think that.

AwesomeGuyDj1 votes

You either lose lane, go even, or win. You lose if your multiple kills and gold behind your opponent. Or your even, (both missing tower/even in kills and cs). Or you win lane.

Right like a lot of league advice sounds like ancient chinese wisdom. "You need not win lane, only to not lose your lane" or "To survive a battle is far more valuable than to strike another down"

Liked your post except for this "ANY player that climbs out of bronze will be better than ANY player that was placed in silver." That's just clearly not true and all I have to do is give my personal example. I'm far better than my brother who is currently silver 1 and has been placed in bronze many times yet he always manages to climb out, meanwhile I was never placed in bronze and got placed directly in silver and now I'm plat. And I'd assume I'm not the only person in the world that got placed in silver that is better than some people that got placed in bronze.

i also said climbing of silver is much harder than climbing out of bronze... if u can climb out of silver u can EASILY climb out of bronze...

i was placed into silver 1 during season 3.. i can guarentee you AT THAT TIME i was bronze... becuase i had absolutely zero game knowledge. and even then... i reached my gold promos... which i lost.. but i did BOT deserve to be gold back then... i didnt deserve to be SILVER back then. now i do...

If I don't win my land and help the other 2 feeding lanes, we lose, it's as simple as that.

Takito2 votes

What about the dude who played thousands of normal games before coming in ranked? Not better than a bronze?

Sorry but my first ranked season, I started out around S5 and I got to G5 in like 5 days (not playing a lot too)...

It mostly depends on experience, you might not have ranked experience, but normal helps up to a certain level.

Wyrmblade4 votes

I know from personal experience that you can play thousands of games and learn absolutely nothing.

Asayake 5150glow1 votes

Well, if the rest of your team is losing lane and they're on early game champions vs a fucking Vayne or Twitch, and you're on an early game champion, you're obligated to win lane because you're on a lane bully, and you need to win lane so you can help your team so you don't get fucked later on.

If you're playing GP going even in lane is fine, or even anyone who scales decently into lategame. As long as your opponent does not have a Twitch getting fed.

Sir Fuzzi1 votes

Dude, remember Firebat rushes in Hero Attack? Thank Christ there isn't anything like that, or the Dark Zealot. These people got it easy, 'not losing lane.'

The important thing is knowing what you can and can't do in lane. When you're facing Annie support for instance, you're probably going to have to use strategy rather than brute force to execute a successful play. When you're facing Sona support on the other hand, you just need to make sure you can safely commit to that kill.

The problem is the obsession with KDA. A death for a death is a poor exchange; at best, it's some pocket strategy on ARAM. But everyone wants to have 20 kills, even if they have 20 deaths with it. It's hard to understand, for me, but I'm also more hellbent on winning a game-- with the end justifying the means. I was never above a good Whirlwind to the enemy's base-- on a good game, I could get the buildings as they were just constructing.

Anyway, the most important thing to do in lane is basically to deny as much money to your enemy as possible. You just need to consider how you can and can't get away with that. Above all, yes, not dying is one of the most important things you can do in League-- circumstances allowing, of course. Karthus might not care as much.

iamthegoatofwar1 votes

heh I remember one time a blitz pulled a karthus into 4 of his teammates while we were all right there...karthus died but so did all of them.

HeimerLmao1 votes

I played with a friend around 20 lvl. I was Karthus on ARAM. Nobody on the enemy team knew what my passive does. They just stood in my e range trying to attack me. Pentakill. I almost feel bad for them. Almost.

It depends what is losing lane. Is losing lane just behind in cs or getting solo killed a bunch of times?

iamthegoatofwar1 votes

...A-fucking-men. I just had my jungler and bot lane feed out the ass early game after they intentionally banned my pick as well. Not going to lie...I tilted off the face of the fucking planet while I was winning lane...game was seriously heavy though. Only noticed once team fights rolled around.

This is literally impossible. Don't be hyperbolic. Make an argument without exaggeration.

It's not a case of newbies being placed in silver - it's a case of silver calibre players being placed in silver. The rest of the stuff I don't disagree with - but really...

Solidarius1 votes

as a top lane main in high silver/low gold I approve this message.

PokladnicaZla1 votes

I disagree. You can lose ,die and lose the turret as well. But what triggers me the most. is: if you die 2 times, are below farm and still refuse the acknowledge the fact that you can't beat your opponent 1vs1 situation.Still keep pushing and going on them ending your lane with 0/4 or 0/5. That triggers me the most.

There's always going to be games where you'll get utterly destroyed be it a matter of match ups or camp, but that doesn't mean you can't play smart and wait for help and stay safe.

Fawksea1 votes

playing vlad botlane is the funniest thing when i actually wanna have a chance of winning, that lucian/cait/zyra/blitz will have problems cheesing botlane when i heal up all the time :P

Oriyoki1 votes

well that's the issue... they ALL think like that.. even WHEN their bad..

they're*

you dont need to win lane.. all you need to do is not LOSE LANE

Try to teach my teammates that!!! They all mostly think they're god damn Cowsep that can 1v5 on Yi or a Faker than can pull off a flashy Zed play!

junglerboy161 votes

That's only true if you aren't playing a lane bully (like Aatrox Pantheon for example) who falls off hard.

The important bit is remembering that winning lane doesn't mean getting kills, it can mean going 0/0/0 and having a CS lead, or simply surviving laning against that bully that falls off.

The0neBarWarrior1 votes

Relevant quote from an ooooold post from a poster I don't remember.

"Yeah, that's great when your ADC, JG, and Top all go 5/0. When they don't, though? When they're somehow performing even worse than you, even though you're countered in lane with shit farm? If all you do is sit back and wait to capitalize on your opponents' mistakes, you will lose.

You will lose because Riven will not sit and wait, she will go 13/9 and say "wtf that's not feeding, it's worth". You will lose because your Hecarim will blindly charge over an Annie Q away into the enemy team, with absolutely no chance of follow up. Every. Single. Time. You will lose because Ezreal thinks that he is better off farming than trying to win the game, and you will lose because the enemy team is smart enough and capable enough to 5v1 the only person on your team actually doing well.

And of course, they will never, ever surrender."
