How was Soraka's rework a success ?

I loved playing the old Soraka as a support, I didn't even play her as a solo laner. But everybody was crying for nerfs, and after few of them, she even got a rework. In that rework they clearly stated they don't want Soraka to just be a healer bot. I'm fine with the Q and E changes, it's a skillshot, not a "noob, point and click skill", my problem is with the W change. If you played the old Soraka, you know the frustration of playing the new Soraka and not being able to heal yourself when someone focuses you, Q heal is too slow or not noticable when you're being chased and focused by couple of people, even if you hit the Q, that is. Not to mention the health cost when you heal someone else, that's also just frustrating. However, lets get back to the first point of Riot not wanting Soraka to just be a healer bot. Instead of having 20+ secs cd on her old W, she now has a 2.5 sec cd on her heal, which makes her what ? A HEALER BOT. They wanted diversity, but what do you get when you have a 2 sec cd on heal, which also makes you loses health when being used ? A HEALER BOT. More so, I can only build resistance and items which don't give me health, otherwise my heal cost goes through the roof. Which in return makes you more squishy and again, "stay in the back - HEALER BOT". I'd wish they return the old W, but I guess she would just get spammed as a solo laner again, unless they make another changes, but I guess that's just too much to ask for.

new W is amazing

this is probably my best Soraka game http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1844099262/37926959

It ain't because it's the game that got me level 5 Soraka It ain't because I got an S+ that match

It's cause the enemy Draven, after the last teamfight (he died in a 1 v 2 slugfest against Twitch and I) started yelling at our Twitch in All Chat about how "he didn't carry" "Soraka carried Twitch" "this Twitch doesn't deserve to win" "Soraka heal>my auto attack" "Soraka's W has exact same cooldown as my attackspeed"

Which led to a hilarious conversation between pretty much everyone on my team about how Salty Draven was.

However, lets get back to the first point of Riot not wanting Soraka to just be a healer bot.

You're misunderstanding Riot here. What they said about Soraka is that they don't want Soraka's only value to be passive, riskless sustain. Being the best healer was their goal for her with the rework. They did want her to be a dedicated healer, but they wanted to shift her to more of a combat healer role instead of a sustain monkey role. They did this by increasing her healing potential so that she could actually be the best healer in the game by a wide margin, but imposing health costs that he would have to use skillshots to alleviate. That way, she's not just a limitless health battery in lane, and she can actually contribute meaningfully to a teamfight.

I played the old Soraka, and I love the new one much more. She's much more fun, way more rewarding, and a far superior healer. I have to actually care about my positioning, but that's an acceptable cost for what I've gained.

"they clearly stated they don't want Soraka to just be a healer bot"? They literally said they wanted her to be League's "premier healer", in those words exactly. If you wanna understand the reasoning behind the changes the rework brought about, I wouldn't be surprised if her rework page listed them.

I honestly miss old raka and like her old kit a lot more.

That being said, her new kit is much more healthier for the game and involves more counterplay and more interactive.

All in all, she's less of a pain the ass.

It was a "success" in that it forced her to be aggressive in order to be useful, which makes her more exciting for the kind of person who gets forced into support but prefers other roles. As someone who prefers supporting, however, I'd much rather have the ability to improve someone else without having to throw myself under the bus repeatedly.

Also, I don't like being the only lane healer who has no way to heal myself.

This is probably my biggest gripe about Soraka's rework, having no way to heal myself instantly is really annoying.
