What destroys Balance is....

When thinks can't be replicated by both teams.

As far as the map itself, the dragon change made the prospect of killing the dragon change entirely. Before, it was simply a large sum of gold. Gold can be earned through other means, so giving up a dragon didn't mean the enemy had a buff that you have no way at all of receiving afterwards (unless the next dragon is the same, but the fact they have the first means they're better suited to taking it than you.)

For champions, when a champion isn't newly reworked or released, there's usually a stat imbalance that makes that champion a prime candidate over others in their class. When Cinderhulk was released, it was so strong on Sejuani that even though Amumu and Malphite have basically the same role and playstyle, she had an advantage over picking them.

For new releases or reworks, they tend to add in mechanics that no other champion even has, and it has nothing to do with the damage, shield, or CC stat on the ability. No one has 10 .2s cooldown dashes or projectile-negation like Yasuo's. Not even Braum's can match up, since he only blocks from the front. No one can come from near-death to heal half their HP and deal 700 damage in an area, while being shielded and stunning the enemies, like Ekko can. Other healing abilities don't damage or displace the caster, and other stuns don't shield.

Granted, allowing mirror matches would solve the balance part of this issue, many players think mirrors aren't fun because it's often the case that if one player gets the lead, they keep it. (Although items, allies, and playstyle can definitely argue against that, seeing as it's the same case even if you aren't in a mirror lane) And if they continue to make changes or new releases centered around being Unique, they'll continue to make changes that negatively impact balance, since Unique means the enemy team can't possibly have a similar aspect on their team who isn't the same champion.

But how they "balance" the game now is through counter-picks. If a champion is weaker against some others, then they consider that balance. Even if the losses are in huge part due to a small handful of hard counters.

This is true even at the professional level. Games are won and lost in champion select. Riot wants to be inventive and original, but its not always healthy for the game. In fact, it rarely is.

Yeah!

At the professional level, they can abuse picks that anyone not in a 5-man premade can't. Sight granters like TF and Rek'sai, who are terrible picks for everyone else, grant benefits that give a very heavy advantage to whichever team has them. Or even Vlad, who has ranged no-cost sustain like no other champion. And Cassieopia, with the only Grounded ability in the game's code.

unique is OK, as long as the unique is due to picking champions and not part of the map itself. The map itself should be a neutral ground.

If you are picking Ekko, you have an opportunity cost in that you are not picking another champion top with some sort of advantage that Ekko doesn't have i.e. long range AOE nuke (Rumble) or AOE nuke+stun (Kennen). The issue of picking Ekko is one of opportunity cost.

On the other hand, a team that gets Inferno dragon first through pure luck, but the next 3 dragon to spawn are Ocean, Wind, Wind, then you are at a combat stats disadvantage even if you get all 3 later dragons. Same with some towers being stronger than others. Same with Rift Herald not respawning. It adds luck to games.

Other champions do have long range AoE nukes, but I would have listed Kennen, since even close counterparts to Kennen don't have stuns or don't have damage on their stun. Though Ekko is closest, having both an AoE nuke and an AoE stun, albeit on separate abilities.

Luck isn't something that shows skill. Adding luck to the game removes some of the truth behind a person's abilities in Ranked. In fact, dodge chance and TF's old W were removed because luck isn't a factor that makes the game balanced.

but you also have to look at the flip side of the coin and see how they are making reworked champions in manners that they try to keep old things from their previous iteration, and in turn, makes the problem still remain as the problem wasn't numbers if after 3-5 nerfs to numbers it remains, the playstyle, the kit itself is bad all around, but riot refuses to nuke a kit and start from scratch...

Ryze worlds shows he is just as much a problem now, just his power spike is at 3 now... instead of 6, sure there's plenty of cool things you can do extra, but as long as he remains a spammy mana scaling mage, i feel he will be a problem.

Mordekaiser I loved this guy before his rework, and can in a few cases use him well currently, but it still remains his passive is a problem, it is either too good or lack luster, never inbetween, and as long as he is damage with no means to stick to targets COUGH COUGHitem 3116 changes soon, he will be underwhelming.

and i fear for any update to champions, as others do as well because they try too hard to make something similar and different, but just feels lack luster on both ends to appease the fans of the champion, when sometimes starting from scratch is what is needed Sion, is a great example of it, he was a tad overtuned albeit stat wise, but he is fairly balanced now, hell even a really powerful support in some cases, but the fact is his kit changed pretty hard, his shield stayed but was changed so it was different, having seemingly infinite hp scaling added to it. But Ryze, they split the problem into two sequences, but he still manages...
