My problems with Shen (Rhe reason why he is not balanced)

ExecutorDill··3 votes·1,509 views

Here are my reasons:

Q range a little to short and often put shen in danger when used against champions.

Scaling on E sucks! I don't mind Shen being a non-bursty champion, but the least they can do is make the E scaling more convenient if not increase the scaling it already has.

My Solutions:

  1. Simple just buff his Q to a decent 500 to 525. He doesn't need a sniper Q! He is a tank but I find the current Q just a Tad bit short even for him. You could argue that he is energy based or he is a tank and increasing its range would make him a total lane bully... Well my answer to you is Malphite and Akali, to champs who have like 600 range on a single target ability whereas Malph deals the most damage out of the 3 with a slightly long cooldown but a nice movement steal effect that helps with chase, repositioning and escapes; and Akali having lesser damage than shen unless she procs the active but same range, free sustain from her passive and the already mentioned high single-target range. I don't know why complain that shen would be annoying because 500 isn't far off from 475 in term of units and hardly noticeable in game.
  1. Either increasing the AP ratio to an average 0.7 or make it a hybrid scaling with 0.4 APand 0.5 Bonus Movement Speed (only applies to flat bonuses from items runes and masteries, not spell effects from items or champs). This way shen will be allowed a bit more damage when building full tank or any other build the summoner desires as MS is a universally needed stat by all champs! some more than others.

Message: I better get a Rioter response explaining why it can or cannot work because I will flood the boards and spam nonstop tickets to the support team why they should be implemented... Not a threat, but I am serious.

the main problem with his q is you might cast it on someone but he either dies or runs away. now you have no sustain. unlike irelia who has hitenstyle on which ever target she goes on so long as its up.

The width on his dash could also get a bit buffed back to its old width and slow people on the edges on his taunt. the taunting portion stays the same tho. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/KL0NuLWE-possible-fix-for-shen-taunt-width it would be cool if his ki strike could sort of apply a mark on someone so he could sustain off of them.

Yeah his taunt hitbox is tiny, and needs a fix.

Its mainly to get him energy back. That IMO is the solution to his energy problems. Actually helping it land it. And slowing those caught on the edges with minor cc.

I think the teleport split push issue can be fixed by simply preventing him from using teleport for 35 seconds after ulting. He gets jet lag from travelling such great distance :p

Or give him a bounded radius on how far he can teleport after ulting that progressively increases in circumference every 5 seconds until the whole map is available. Kind of like a stamina for traveling so much. At 25 seconds it has the same range as pantheon's/tf ult. Problem solved now we can give his kit the justice it deserves.

his laning phase doesn't need buffs i think

you need to buff his teamfight

And how will you do that? His E is the answer, also buffing his Q will in turn help him in all stages. Why are champs like Zed allowed to be extremely safe with his poke and shadow poke, then dodge all damage as he goes in for the kill with his ult and shadow out! It's not fair he allowed to be an extremely safe Assasin but when I come with some slight changes for shen on the boards I often get -1, -2 and -3 without ppl caring to explain why my suggestions are bad

I got a good idea that I got from Malph that would help his teamfight and waveclear, make Ki Strike do small aoe. It would still be single target but enemies near your target (like 200 units near... Idk not to good estimating this stuff) would take either the same are reduced damage based on proximity.

yea do this will help him to split push

His energy costs are too high. 210 with no reduction as he levels skills. Every other ninja except for Lee loses energy costs as they level, and of those, only Kennen starts at 210 also (dropping down to 170 at level 18).

Buffing his mindless poke isn't how to fix him.

No he is find!

i didn't choose any of your 3 options, i disagreed with all 3 and what you said in the main part. Malphite/akali are both weak laners right now (though malphite's problem stems from his mana not his abilities). Shen also doesn't need a higher damage e or longer range q. I think he could be changed, but not in the way you specified.

Well give me a suggestion then, you comment has not been productive nor informative. We know of malph's mana prob's but it gets nullified late game and its no real problem during the laning phase with recall, shen eventhough he has energy can't farm the whole game, and if you back and get stronger items he will have no choice but to do the same or risk losing lane.

my point was that there should be a 4th option for people who disagree with your options yet still think shen needs help. I was strapped for time when I wrote my earlier comment. I believe that shen's q is just fine as it is, though late game it feels underwhelming, so changing it's heal scaling might be a way to give him more presence later on. As for his e i'd prefer if it refunded a little more energy for landing it on a target. In drawn out fights shen doesn't have the energy to fight, which is very difficult for a tank. Overall im fine with his kit but believe he needs some number toning.

your balance ideas are awful, shen's E is the highest energy refund ability right now. GIVING 40 ENERGY per taunted enemy, and guess what, it isn't as hard as people say it to be to, to hit enemies with your E. He also gets 10/20/30 energy from Ki Strike at lvls 1/7/11 respectively (not to mention the 10 energy per sec every energy champ gets) and he just got an energy reduction to his E which was a massive buff to his ability rotation. I believe shen to be perfectly balanced after the E cost reduction and anyone who believe he still has energy problems just don't know how to play him.

His UP lies within his reach, if he can effectively deal damage without taking some evertime he uses his Q, he will succesfully be a safer laner. Ki Strike should deal damage to enemies near the target (maybe 10% extra damage to minions and monsters to buff his jungling) E needs a bit more damage either in the form of base or scaling and wala shen is viable!

my problem with shen's energy refund is that it's reliant on hitting multiple enemies to be relevant, with its high energy cost hitting 1 enemy will allow you to rotate your qw twice before running OOE. As a sustain tank therein lies shen's problem, he's a tank that doesn't do well in drawn out fights and lacks sustain in his kit. Shen's taunt width requires your enemies to stack up on each other for the 40 per champ to really come into play (While such things may work vs lower skill players, we are looking to balance him at all elos). My only problem with upping shen's q range is the potential strength buff in lane. With a longer range q there won't be any danger toward him when trading (consider malphite's q, which leaves him just in range of most other top laners but gives him some space to leave). I'm sorry that you thought my ideas were awful but lets try to be polite k :).

:/ I still think he needs like 525 pr at least 500 units range on poke. His range on Q is t short to even call it a ranged ability as it has the sam range as Yasuo's Q.

Axests1 votes

i can see what you mean, i don't there'd be a problem with a q range buff if it was small (might even be fine as a 550 range)

every enemy hit by Taunt will reduce the cooldown by one.
