League Experiment, Nature of the Troll
Something I've always known but never really said. Most, about 85%, of league players have 3 fatal flaws in their gameplay that cause tilting, raging, trolling, etc.
League is a very competitive game when you want it to be and as we learned more and more about the game, we wanted to stop getting our asses handed to us from some smurf reking our lil ole level 15 selves.
Like when an older sibling pushes you around. You try harder to win OR you just give up and stop caring about the game in general. That's the division right there.
The three types:
-
The newbie, noob, scrub, nub, etc. You really don't care all that much because you're just learning. Babies don't care if they break mum's China if they don't understand what breaking the China means. As you, a new player, do not understand yet that standing under the tall rock thing with pretty balls of light shooting out, is something that gets you killed most of the time. You don't start raging or getting worked up on getting beat up constantly by smurfs until you realize what winning and losing feels like. You gain experience, you learn whats good and whats bad to do in a basic form, and from there you break off into two other types. Usually becoming the one before the other.
-
Competitive, try-hard, rage-easy, frequent flyers tiled, etc. You take the path of trying to overcome those that destroyed you before, you want to win. This varies A LOT so don't miss understand. Some are only slightly competitive and it takes many losses to tilt them, or they never tilt at all. Or you're at a level where you're tiled before the hit that bright yellow gold "lock in". You get mad when you do bad, and many players have developed the habit of lashing out instead of reflecting in. Most players (like myself for a long time and still occasionally when I'm having a bad day) lash out, they take away blaming them-self for a mistake and instead blame others. Now you can't really understand if they're really trolling you (part of the next type we'll cover soon) or if they're serious but what they end up causing is tension to the team.
Johnny misses the touch down pass and blames the Quarterback and the water boy for not doing their jobs right so Johnny could get the Touch down. Johnny the ADC blames the jungler/mid/top laner and the support for not doing "SOMETHING" to help Johnny get the kill.
See this is the most common form of player in league, they're prideful, selfish, blind, and deaf to their team mates around them. OR they're very easily hurt, they get their feelings hurt. Most league players won't realize is it, either due to age/maturity, but people can be sensitive, they could be going through hard times. They could be in abusive relationships, they could be losing a friend or a loved one, they could've lost a job, a mother, a father, brother or sister, friend or relative. They could have cancer or they could be injured or paralyzed; they could be bullied, beaten down emotionally, physically, and mentally. People are people, when we que-up they're 9 other human beings on the other side and when you tell the bullied and abused nerd to, "Kill yourself, un-install, you suck a** you piece of s***" You cut deep. See this type is called, "HURT" because people change differently when they get hurt, some harden up and get mad, other break down and crumble to pieces. This type of player is the 2nd type and one of the most common type because most of the time that player is spite-trolling or spite-flaming. Why on earth would someone EVER want to do what YOU say if YOU call them a "b***** worthless c**** a** scrub" They're never ever going to want to help you when you so easily belittle them. So this category includes anyone from the "butt-hurts" to the "Try-hard ragers"
- The troll, the "Only play for fun", the I don't care This type is somewhat a break off of the second type, when someone finally decides, "this game isn't worth getting mad over, its just a game" They start to care less about the actual out come of the match. This isn't a bad thing for them because to be really honest League IS just a game and really doesn't or shouldn't affect your actual one way or the other (Just like sports/Esports.) See they get to a point where they are sick of tilting over the game and just want to have fun with a game they really "liked" at some point of another. OR this type is started this way from the beginning, never really caring about the game from the first place, they play to have fun anyway they can and it doesn't matter if they die 20 times in a match or not, all they wanna do is have fun.
Type 2 players consider "fun" winning or having incredibly high stats in match, but this type considers having fun as going blitz ADC with a buddy of theirs going Master Yi support. Yes these types of matches with friends are my personal favorites and are the most fun for me, but I also personally love curb-stomping the other team. I like to win and I like to just have fun... So I either tilt real bad on ranked matches or I care less about ARAM/normals. Type 3 players are usually watching netflix, eating some chips while talking to their buddy about the cute waitress at Denny's.
Most, if not all, league players will evolve and switch between these two types but one thing is certain, almost no growth comes from either. As a new player you try learning the best you could, you tried to take in peoples advice, and you tried your best with what you could do.
As a community as a whole right now we're defensive and prideful, once we think we know what we're doing, we \ lash out against anyone that would tell us wrong. We close our eyes to truth and we deafen ourselves to those that would try to help us grow.
Those who rise to higher levels are those who realize that they aren't the best, that they don't know what they're doing, and that they aren't the best at the game. Those who rise in the ladder begin with the mentality of, "I'm going to do my best, win or lose, I'll practice and keep trying" They rise through the ladders because they dedicate themselves to the thought that they aren't all that amazing and that they need to practice, they need their team, they need communication, they need to work together.
This is the LCS type
The type that learns and realizes that they aren't all that good, and that practice, team work, communication, a long fuse, and the ability to shake off a loss is needed in order to grow through the ranks.
This is what I've learned of myself and from the community from the past 5 years or so I've been playing league. I'm not very good, I need my team to win, I am nothing without a support as an ADC main. I can't win without the other 4 players on my team doing their best to work together to win.
So next time you wanted to cuss someone out, or decide its ok to tower dive and die all game, remember that even though League is a game and it doesn't matter, to a lot of people it does. Remember that its a human you're talking to and not a bot, and remember that they have lives, families, challenges and shortcomings just like YOU.
If you read all this then I thank you for your time, best of luck on the fields of justice friends.
