You know i think riot should release supports around actual support players

They went as low as making an "assassin" support so autofilled assassin players can play?

You know riot that auto filled assassin players are just going to play talon bot lane right? What a waste of time.

Like i can understand rakan, he plays like and he has an actual support kit, hes a unique/not done before support done RIGHT, now pyke on the other hand is basically just picking a guy thats all about "revenge" and randomly making him a support when nothing on his lore or kit screams "support", aside from some tacked on passive on his ult that basically reads : free gold for your team... that is just not cool, like you could make zed a "support" to by making it so the nearest ally also gets the ad bonus from his ult when he kills a champion, which would be stupid right?

The chery on top really is the aoe execute that resets, on a champion they are trying to sell as a "SUPPORT" lmao.

This is what happens when you try to make something different just for the sake of it being different, no inspiration of whatsoever.

Honestly, not many players want to play a support who just sucks off the adc for 45 minutes. That's why a lot of players like playing Brand or Velkoz support because they can actually hold their own against many champions.

The thing is, neither brand or velkoz are supports.

They are mages that go bot lane and dont farm, thats it, nothing more or less, NETHER OF THOSE CHAMPS WERE RELEASED AS "SUPPORT".

Thats the main point ppl arent getting.

He never said they WERE supports. He said people play them IN support.

Nonetheless, his point still stands.

Some people don't wanna play pussy Lulu/Janna/Karma support. Some people wanna deal hella damage and play aggressively against their opponents-- hence Vel'Koz and Brand support, and now Pyke.

The game has been hemorrhaging supports for years now. In the most generous census, there is one support player for every 50,000 players of every other role, and that horrific disparity only gets bigger with every passing day as more people want to overspecialize even further on doing absolutely nothing but damage, even to the point of abandoning universal duties (defending, pushing lanes, going for objectives, warding, and even teamfighting). At this point, the support is the one role that is actually doing anything in the game, which at this point is everything while everyone wants to go and wank off about how much everyone is intentionally feeding to stop them from truly shining.

Except for the fact you're just spewing bullshit on the first part

Top lane is less played than support in diamond and above, support is only truly "unpopular" in silver or bronze anymore, the higher you go the more and more support players you see to the point where you often see multiple of them in the same lobby in diamond +.

Support WAS an unpopular role back in season 2 or 3, thats not true anymore.

Not a high elo player, but I believe you are correct. The lane that needs help the most right now, is top lane.

However for the bulk of the community, support is the unpopular role. The evidence that support is less popular than other roles (in every mmr other than superhigh) is overwhelming.

Herein is the problem: top lane not enough power, support too much power, and yet support is still less popular. Why is this? because power is attractive when it is used to perform fun acts.

I.E.:

Jax is fun when he is OP. Fiora is fun when she is OP.

Janna is meh when she is OP. Soraka is meh when she is OP.

(please forgive me, brethren support players)

autofilled supports will probably always play janna. just too safe to pass up

now pyke on the other hand is basically just picking a guy thats all about "revenge" and randomly making him a support when nothing on his lore or kit screams "support"

his lore is literally a copy paste of Nautilus, and he is a CC ridden tank support, so whats the problem?

aside from some tacked on passive on his ult that basically reads : free gold for your team...

his q is a slow and his e is a stun, thereby giving him the aspects of a catcher assassin hybrid, and therefore has next to no peeling potential for carries.

that is just not cool, like you could make zed a "support" to by making it so the nearest ally also gets the ad bonus from his ult when he kills a champion, which would be stupid right?

they specifically stated they wanted to try something new. it worked with gnar, it worked with ivern, it worked with jhin, so why wouldn't it work for pyke?

Naut was released as a tank jungler and then later was played as a top laner.

Hes only played as a "support" now because he was nerfed out of the other roles, he was never released as a "support".

My point being, his thematic and design have absolutly nothing to do with his role. Just like Thresh

I mean that is true, but atleast thresh has a kit that looks something like a support, unlike pyke who just fails at both lore AND gameplay at being a support.

Why do ppl think this is a good design again? Are they just oblivious? Pherhaps its just low standards?

Good design is something like jinx, where every part of her "existence" (gameplay, lore, kit, visual) ties up together correctly.

FOR JUSTICE1 votes

Its not nessicerily that we like the design, but it is something to shake up botlane to something besides "babysit the adc for the next 30 minuets, or if theyre bad, babysit another teammate".

Also i wouldnt get too excited about him solocarrying though, because according to his passive he gains damage by building tank, therefore making him a relic support that cant really afford to build damage. So shitty damage scalings should be more or less expected.

RIP my duskblade pyke theorycraft

From what I've noticed in the past week or two, the word, "Support" holds no meaning any more. Anyone plays anyone anywhere. I've seen Urgot jg's, Karma jg's, brand ap support, Vel ap support.... It seems to me the game of "real supports" is over and done with, and the world of "kill lanes" is beginning. Heil Hydra.

Why would assassin players pick a high gold champion like talon over a low gold assassin like pyke in the support role? The entire idea of only enchanters being allowed to support is archaic and has no place in league. Support as a role would be much healthier if it had a mix of assassins, mages, tanks, enchanters, marksmen, and any other archetype riot can squeeze into a low income role.

Actual support player here: I think Pyke, and more importantly what Riots trying to do with him, is really cool.

I like having a support in the same vein as Nautilus Brand or Zyra who’s kit revolves around hindering the enemy rather than amping up your allies

I like having a new support with a hook ability

I like having a support who can check for wards with his passive alone

I like it when Riot tries to get creative with new champions.

I like the fact that if we have a supportive mid/top/jungle I can now go someone more damage oriented that’s NOT a mage Ivern Nunu Karma Orianna Shen TahmKench

I like the fact that the assassin has good CC in exchange for reliable burst
