I get Azir is strong now, but...

Azir Arise (W) [NOTE: Tower damage bits removed from tooltip but seems to still function in-game at the moment.] Emperor's Divide (R): Wall duration lowered to 2 seconds from 5/6/7 No longer grants 20% movement speed for 1 second when passing through wall for Azir and Allies

Do you need to completely gut him to the point where he's not even playable? TWO SECONDS FOR WALL? Thats 5 seconds off at rank 3, thats fucking huge. Also adding to the fact that they nerfed one of his core items, stinger. 4/5/6, would be a good nerf, that doesn't gut the guy, jesus.

Azir 30% winrate inc.

Without exageration, i predict more something like 45%

He was at 43% at one point, I could see him dropping down to 40%.

Wait.....they are nerfing Azir's wall ?

Sohleks6 votes

It still knocks people back that already commited some resources to diving him (how else can they close into his massive range) and blocks for 2+ seconds, which in a fight is still an eternity. It's still super obnoxious combined with his kit so a few redundant seconds off early ranks won't really be as big a nerf as you'd think. It's a change that'll help reduce his zone control in higher tier gameplay; it's an attempt to nerf him at the high levels of play, rather than things casual users need, like his damage or range.

I won't be surprised if Azirs still OP lol. That kit is the most broken design a control mage has ever had in this game.

This describes Azir's issue perfectly.. Props.

But Azir is a DPS mage, this will destroy his early game, as he doesn't have teh burst to kill you in two seconds he needs to kite around his wall.

Also add to the fact that Azir is the most mechanically difficult champion in the game, you should be awarded for properly positioning yourself around the and your soilders. Added to the fact he doesn't have his knock up on his E anymore which gives him even less safely.

Effectively these nerfs will make him the worst Solo Queue champion ever. He'll probably still see pro play as teams are coordinated enough to properly peel. But Riot just 100% gutted him to ever be a viable pick in Solo Queue, I presume a 42% win rate after these changes. (5% drop)

Finally someone who understands! I honestly udnerstand tha tthey are nerfing his ult, he's a bit over the top at the moment and a good Azir ca destroy teams, but they went too far with the nerf. Something like taking away the moov speed for allies and giving the wall a duraiton of 4 seconds at all ranks would make much more sense: you still reduce the time the wall is up in all levels and you also cut that extra bit of mobility it gives to allies in a fight (which is really big if you use it wisely).

To be fair, he is essentially an ADC with AP items, so destroying his early game isnt exactly a bad thing.

Icestar11861 votes

This is worse for his lategame though, IMHO.

Pika Fox1 votes

Not really. Its worse for his teamfight utility and zone control, sure, but he will still have ADC damage output at Marksmen range.

Bisaknosp5 votes

4 seconds at all ranks would be more understandable i think the wall duration right now is too long it already knocks you back so nerfing it is okay BUT 2 seconds? come on lol thats just too much whats with zed? i bet if they 'nerf' him (will never happen anyways...) they reduce his base ad by 1 but make his q global

Crowe Stalker4 votes

Even just 4 or 5 seconds at all ranks would be fine, but 2 is just ludicrous. Friendly Reminder this is a Minute Cooldown at most.

GaleWinUnleashed4 votes

Well that seems like overkill. Poor Azir...

Zerolera4 votes

The overall damage and attack speed to nashor's remains the same - it just means he can't keep the two items separate anymore and actually has to combine them.

The tower damage nerfs are deserved it was definitely overload. The duration of wall might be a bit much but it's such a strong ability seeing as it deal good damage, pushes everyone AND creates unpassable terrain while giving you a MS buff. So much utility and damage in one skill.

His ults cooldown is pretty high though, so its deserved. Besides, as its been said before, he takes skill to play. The only time you're going to be blocking off paths is during jungle skirmishes. Its not wide enough to work well anywhere else. Its an annoyance at best. These nerfs are ridiculous, especially keeping the cooldown as high as it is. There is no reason to gut him this bad.

Be real do you REALLY need five-seven seconds of wall? Most champs take about 3 seconds to walk around it and if you Azirsec someone they aren't getting out anyway unless they're Ekko.

MilamberZ2 votes

I agree, but they'll never do that. That's why i suggested (http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Xrxb8kmE-i-get-azir-is-strong-now-but) to lower at least the CD of that ultimate...

I blame Taliyah

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

Even if he's doing well right now, he still takes skill to play well. There is no reason to gut a champ that has a huge learning curve to being with. 2 seconds for a short as hell wall is barely worth the mana it costs when Taliyah has a wall that a lot bigger and looks to do a much better job at isolating enemies. I'd like to say this isn't going through and they are just going to increase its mana cost instead, but we all know how that mode of thinking worked out with XinZhao when he got that crit buff >_>

Why the hell would they do this? Azir isn't exactly a "click on someone to instakill" champion!

He requires positioning and a good understanding of how his kit works to really perform well! Compare him to champions like Zed where their main form of mobility is pretty simple and doesn't rely on some sand dudes to deal literally all of his damage...

Who are they going to nerf next instead of actual problem champions? Or are they just going to keep doing this then pumping out new skins?

(Note, I do not hate this game or Riot. I've played it for 4 years ffs. It's just things like this that are incredibly stupid)

The fact that he's hard doesn't justify him being way too strong.

This is still on PBE, right? Because holy crap that's excessive.

Partholonian1 votes

A lot of PBE changes are deliberately excessive. Then they cut them by whatever amount they think is right and release somewhere in between previous-live and the first PBE build.

Still, though, I don't think a long duration is really necessary for his ult to be a very powerful move. Pushing multiple people is a very big effect on its own.

LordGeovanni1 votes

5 seconds is a good win rate but the rest of the stuff look like he got gutted

tXQbsPrjN51 votes

That's not gutting. Gutting would be his soldiers no longer procing thunderlords, he no longer gains passive AS, he can no longer burst towers with W, his soldiers now do 50% damage to minions. That would be gutting.

This is a love tap that was well deserved. Like why does this extremely powerful early game ADC have the ability to peel off an entire team for that long at lvl 6?

Lauchmelder1 votes

Passive AS got removed afaik. And if you want to "burst" towers with your W then prepare to be Oom

Serpents Embrace1 votes

The duration really needed to go way down. Kind of ridiculous it doesn't scale anymore, though.

Won't cry for you, though. You think this is "gutted"? Look at Cass.

CurlyFriezzz1 votes

And Malzahar only get a few seconds longer for his free spell shield and 90% damage reduction at early ranks.

Byuiso1 votes

They gave Aurelion Sol an excessive nerf that isn't very warranted because like Azir, he isn't a easy champion to play. Riot acknowledged it might be to heavy of a nerf but they released it and said that they will check the data and adjust accordingly.

Azir will get the same treatment.
