Okay Riot, question time.

Why does Azir have a secondary that says marksman and why does TwistedFate not have it?

Azir's kit has nothing to do with AD. Which means, you need to debuff (nerf) some of those skills and bring in some AD. If not, then he's just a mage. Because I have no reason to get a item 3508 for someone who needs a stupid item 3128 item 3089 and item 3157 to use his abilities correctly. There's no room and no reason. You can most definitely give his W (and/or Q) AD. Give him a reason to get some AD like, for you gain a bonus 0.1 seconds for your turrent for every bonus 10/15/20 AD scaling from 1/7/13. And none of his abilities are applicable for spell vamp. So item 3146 and item 3152 are out of the question.

On the other hand, TwistedFate can use both so easily. His Q is already strong and useful with out AD. His W scales with full AD and some AP. His E gives him AS and gives a nice bonus damage. And his kit is applicable for all the above.

If you are to make Azir a part marksman, you really need to think on it. None of his kit really allows it except for his passives passive. What I think should be done is:

  • Make his Q and E available with and without his soldiers. Give the Q a shot type of action where he shoots a sand rod out and hits the first enemy or monster. His E can just give him a shield for crying out loud. If there is a enemy, he can do the maneuver to do some damage.

The guy would be fun as a marksman but his kit is just to much like a mage. It'd be easier to play a Sona or Vel'Koz as a marksman than it would for Azir.

A large part of the reason that Riot moved away from the title ADC (attack damage carry) and opted instead for Marksman it actually to try and prevent this kind of confusion.

As currently defined a Marksman is any champion that relies strongly on auto attacks. Because Azir's kit revolves around auto attacking it fits as a Marksman.

Though you are correct that Azir is one of, if not the most, nonviable ADCs in the game, he is still a Marksman and as you pointed out, a mage.

If that is true, then, most likely, there are a lot of other champs that can ADC or APC.

But this also answers half of the question. Why doesn't TwistedFate also have marksman as his secondary?

shrugs Who knows. TF is in a really awkward spot when it comes to classifying him.

I think he's a "marksman" because he right clicks a lot. Urgot is ALSO a "marksman", but you don't want to autoattack with him very much...

Urgot at least has a skill shot. Azir has nothing.

Because Azir plays almost exactly like a Marksman. Unlock the normal ad marksman, he instead uses minions and magic damage as his autoattacks, but that is the only real difference.

I understand APC but he has no real way for sustain. And, its not really marksman-ish to use minions to attack. That sounds more like a mage.

Seriously, look at Kennen Teemo Tristana Ezreal Corki KogMaw and Twitch. All of these champs can use AP yet they are also marksmen. Sure, Ezreal, Corki, Kog,Maw, and Twitch can use AD but they still have AP as well. Kennen, Teemo, and Tristana have made APC a thing. But they are still able to use item 3508 or item 3072 and item 3146 properly.

I can understand we want to see different types of champions but to me and my impression of him, Azir can never (truly) ADC or APC.

Marksman doesn't mean AD. It means AA based. TF' kit has enough AA basis that he could be classified as a secondary marksman, this is true. But more than enough of Azir' kit is AA based to give him the marksman classification.
