I would love some advice in regards to champion picks

I never one trick, it is too hard for me to just pick one and stick to them. I naturally play majorly syndra orianna and katarina (maybe not so much now because her rework feels slightly clunky) and honestly it is very hard to know which one to play in situations. They all seem to have the same kind of counters. In the sense that they all vaporize champions like veigar and annie, while somewhat losing to champions like zed/yasuo (in my perspective) So my overall question is: How do i approach picking champions into matchups as in, when to pick ori or syndra etc.

You need to strongly consider what your

  1. objective during the laning phase
  2. What you plan to contribute mid/end of the match
  3. Do you have a rune page for different matchups given the specific champs you always pick.

These decisions are strongly based on your play style - with the summoners your generally play.

I'll provide an example of this.

When I play a position other than ADC, I generally do not focus on building damage, but Sustain for myself during laning phase + CC for the carries on my team for mid to late.

If I was going against Vigar as any champion

  • You know that he scales the longer the game progresses
  • You know he does more damage to AP built champs

Knowing this you should be making conscious decisions to not only prevent feeding him, but be able to stop him late game from smashing your carries.

  • Vigars ult is Point&Click

With these consideration in mind - I take a rune page of 24 flat MR to start Build MR items right from the start - Banner of command is one of the strongest counter items to vigar because he cannot spell cast the destruction of the minion you buff [ i always buff a cannon minion ]

  • I would only build banner First if I was playing an AP champ

I have played this combo on many champs against him and always win laning phase.

I recently played Syndra like this pushed him to enemy base before he could even take my first tower.

  • Syndra can keep pushing his waves back wtih E
  • Syndra offers late game CC to pick out vigar before he has a chance to Point&Click your carries.

This is just one example.

But you really need to understand what the enemy teams skills shots are - do they cause CC, do they negate damage [ sivirs spellsheild, morganas blackshield etc.

  • In these cases you may want to pick someone that has multiple CC options within their kit so that you have a chance to break their sheild with one, and still get CC with second
  • This again is a decision based on your teams composition as well.

Champion selection and runes however is not the ONLY options to counter an enemy team composition - DIFFERENT ITEMS EXIST FOR A REASON :)

The items you build, start to finish in a match should be planned out based on again,

  1. Enemy team comp
  2. Enemy team builds

I have a really good exampl of this, however there are MANY other scenarios

If you are playing against a Darius - he heals back damage passively from his kit If you are playing against a Carry that builds any kind of LifeSteal [ bloodthirster, VampireSeptre]

As an ADC or AD based champ BUILD > MORTAL REMINDER As an AP based champ BUILD > Morellonomicon

Hope this helps.
