Can we do something about this already, im sick and tired of not being able to play champs I like vs. Kennen and Jayce, I don't wanna play Irelia every game

There's like 20 posts on the front page about doran's shield and ranged vs melee but Rioters respond to random posts instead

i was playing a swain game against fiora. All i was doing was poking with autos and then spamming E and Q off CD... I never played swain before and it was the easiest harass i've ever done.

Someone else said this i forgot but basically by the time a melee champ closes the gap with a ranged champ, they're too low from being poked that they cant do anything and just die.

There's also the fact that the majority of these ranged toplaners come equipped with enough cc/mobility to pretty much negate your engage and then back off, forcing you to run back behind your minions and eat return damage the entire time. Take Quinn for example. You go in on her, all she has to do is press E and suddenly she's an arm's length away from you again and pelting you with autos. The fuck someone like Garen supposed to do against that?

Oh, and another thing - even if you do jump a ranged toplaner and manage to get a combo off, you'll probably end up losing on the trade anyway because they get to spam you with return damage whilst you try to skulk back behind your minions.

To be fair, that's mainly cause Swain's manacosts are like non-existent early game. Throws his bird at me, I check his mana...already back to full.

Exactly, I was playing Riven(yeah sue me) against a Jayce, and he just constantly poked me, and when I said something, he just said "you have 4 gap closers tho". Well 90% of my damage comes from weaving in Q's, and my only survivability comes from E, which I have to use all of them just to get near him. And Jayce is probably the worst, because when you get to him after getting poked to half HP and using all your spells, he just bats you away or straight up kills you. Melee vs. Ranged is so lame, being forced under your tower until they decide to roam is torture.

They are both skill matchups for most melees unless you suck at the game (which i bet you do).

Ranged top laners shouldnt also come with cc and mobility. Swain isnt an issue as a top to me because he has no go-out, only cc. Ryze isnt too bad to me because his cc is single-target and mostly offensive (though he's obnoxious for other reasons). Vlad barely has cc and his escape is a self-killing, massive-cd skill that you max last.

Shit like Jayce, who has retarded damage along with engage, disengage, poke, and sustained damage; or Kennen who has obscene range for a top laner and a Crowstorm with a stun, or Quinn who has disengage and cc on a single ability, is just cancerous.

Swain and Ryze are different beasts entirely as unlike other ranged "toplaners" they get tanky so they can do without an escape. They can poke you down from range and if you manage to close the gap on them there's a decent chance they will outtrade you in melee range as well, which is bullshit.

To be fair, Rumble is semi-long range because even if his autos are melee, his flamethrower DPS and his rockets (although the latter is fairly easy to dodge) can poke fairly hard. I don't care either way about Rumble, just saying.

Rumble has decent range on his offensive abilities and isn't tied down by mana (and the base damage on his ult is so high it can be game changing even if he's gold starved). He's one of the few who can deal with ranged champs.

one time i played swain. he was on free rotation. i just spam my abilities at the poor garen. that can't do anything. if he tries to gap close i already chunked a solid 1/4s of this hp. and he has to commit to killing or else hes gonna die on his disengage lol. this is how you have to play against quinn kayle and teemo and such. especially gnar. riot needs to do some significant changes in this melee ranged system. not buffs. we need changes

The melee champions stayed home as they didn't want to get cancer from the ranged tops. What sucks is that unlike most of the champs you listed, the top laners that get kicked out can't work viably in any other lanes.

irelia is a late gameproblem and yeah fiora, unless i want to waste my 24 second cooldown 1 dash block spell, its best to save it for a critical moment, rumble is a pain because i have to farm too

Every time I go melee top I instantly regret it. 90% of the time you meet Teemo, Jayce or Kennen. Especially Jayce is impossible to deal with because of his inherent tankiness snd unkillability. You can't even farm while he takes 50% of your HP with a single ball as a mr/armor runed Garen with cloth armor start. The only melee on top of my head that I would bring top is Riven just because of her outplay potential and high mobility. Kennen needs to be nerfed and given mana.

Ryze, Gnar, and Vlad are not and NEVER will be a problem. They just have WAY too much counterplay in their kits. Ryze is extremely short range, has very high mana costs, and high cooldowns. Gnar's abilities are extremely telegraphed (especially his ult) and easy to dodge, and Vladimir basically kills himself all game. Agree with the rest though.

Except for Irelia because she is one of the very few melees which are capable of dealing with ranged top laners due to her kit. Although at time it was an even matchup because once Ryze finished item 3110 and item 3027 she would become yet another melee that couldn't deal with Ryze

Other melees that could deal with Ryze to some extent were DrMundo Hecarim Zac

Honestly, all I think Gnar needs a nerf in right now is his mega form regen, sounds stupid, right? What I think will do is stop Gnar from being able to take so much harass and giving some too. Because right now, the mega form gets alot of health regen due to mega Gnar being melee, which is pretty stupid. Mega Gnar SHOULD be his weak form early game. Take health regen early from mega Gnar and he can't just run in a minion wave to harass for Mega Gnar.
