Why does Swain have higher base HP/level and armor than Jax when Swain is ranged and Jax is melee

Because he has an ability that reduces aoe damage and makes him immune to autoattacks, and this even leaves out his ult which grants up to 70(!) armor/mr + scaling. He also has one of the lowest cooldown mobility spells in the game.

swain is ranged? i didn't know this.

i mean, every time i see swain he is in the melee between 5 people.

Honestly if they just did a half way undid the base stats nerf on Jax he would be right about where he should be once the trinity and Wit's changes hit.

Jax has to be weak though or else he is to be blunt, broken. Unlike most champs that you can outplay, there really isn't any outplaying Jax. You either outrange him and he can't jump on you and dies a pathetic death. Or he jumps on you and you die even if its a 5v1. Since he builds tanky and has built in tankiness to take someone down even in those situations.

You seem to be doing excessive exaggerations of his power. He was just a hair too strong before those base stat nerfs and ever since he has been too weak.

because jax armor and hp were nerfed a while ago into the ground for some reason. they need to buff that shit back so i don't play as squishy as a mage

When has Jax been as squishy as a mage? You build badly if that is the case since even if he builds no armor or health at all, he still has a bit of bulk due to his ult.

Every Jax builds bruiser and is always tanky while outputing some of the best damage in the game for it. There is a reason why Jax is known as one of if not the best duelist in the game, once he finally gets going he can't be 1v1ed

Well to be fair Swain plays like a melee in teamfights so it makes sense for him to better hp stats than other mages but yeah, you are right. Absolutely no reason for Jax to have less hp than him lmao. But I mean he also has less hp per level than Ryze, Fizz and Morgana for some reason.
