How exactly does autofill work?

So recently a friend got me into play Draft Pick which I've avoided for like up to 6 years (heh) and I had this thing that said something along the lines of "since you were either autofilled previous game or you played support you get autofill protection".

So is it correct if I say that if I'm a support main (which I kinda am) I'd literally always get my role? I've been doing nothing but having my primary role as support and my secondary as fill.

I did. Basically if you've gotten your role in the last game, you may randomly be thrown into the jungle no matter WHAT you main.

Autofill - Means you will automatically be selected for one of the roles apart from your two primary roles.

So its saying because you played support or you were autofilled previously. You are protected from being "autofilled" this queue round.

Hope that helps

You can still get your secondary role. Autofill protected just means you won’t get a role outside of the two you selected.

When I used to support I would put my roles as support and mid and while it was very rare I would get midlane every so often.

when you get autofilled and the person who got your main role hard feeds.

Since Season 8 was the ardent meta, a lot of people picked up the support role. Therefore, there are a lot more people queuing for that role than before. And don't forget the "supports". Lux Brand Zyra

But yeah, like the others said, autofill protection means you are guaranteed one of your two selected roles. Before since support wasn't as popular as it has been lately back then. Riot included support giving autofill protection since it wasn't a popular role. Or at least it felt like they just threw supports a bone to never be autofilled. Nevertheless, if you are autofilled in a game you typically get autofill protection, or just fill a game and get it like that easily.
