Am I the only one who gets this?

If I play a champion I'm new with, I have less stress knowing I can and am probably gonna make a few mistakes as the learning process. If I play a champion I've played a ton, I have far more stress knowing that I should be able to play them at a higher mechanical level.

So I end up playing new champions better than champions I've played a ton of due to that stress of expectation.

Am I the only one who gets this?

I get this a lot, so what I do is I queue up for ARAM and play some other champs that I'm not familiar with.

After some time of this, I revisit my older main champs and I don't have that stress anymore while retaining the natural memory of how to play the champ, and I end up performing much better than when I was burnt out on them before.

I'm currently spanking everyone on my literal first games with Xerath where as I'm struggling to even go positive on Viktor.

Xerath's 10x easier to play than Viktor so that makes sense.

I have like 360,000 Viktor points lul. I think Viktor is dogshit at the moment though.

Ignore the trash, a truly decent team will forgive mistakes, one that you would have lost with no matter your skill will attack you the moment they or you make a mistake.

Any player that attacks the moment someone else makes a mistake is not interested in winning the game, they are interested in making you and anyone else they can get rage and get into a bad mood, they will often claim they care to win the game but actions speak louder and their refusal to shut up speaks louder then the words they type.

Did you comment on the wrong thread? This is about player confidence and performance, not team toxicity

Unless he is suffering from extreme self anxiety that pressure comes from somewhere usually teammates, it is possible he panics easily but it seems more likely to be the team thing.

Who's "he"? This post is me talking about myself and my own expectations. It has nothing to do with the team.

ArtumisPrime1 votes

I can see what the other dude is saying though. Why do you feel pressured to perform better on champions you play more? Is it your own expectations or worry that the team will look down on you?

I don't really want the answers to those questions. It is just an attempt to get across what I think that other person is saying.

As for the pressure...you just have to keep in mind that even if you do have a bad performance, that happens to absolutely everyone. From bronze to the pros. I remember watching Reginald on TSM waaaaay back in the day go 0/6 on TF in lane. Literally everyone who has ever played this game has had a bad game.

It's your ability to not tilt afterwards, or even during, that matters. And, if you're unable to prevent the tilt..then go do something else for a while after you're tilted.

"he" is yourself.

I used to be able to do this and stay calm, but now that pretty much everyone can see your mastery points in champ select, people will flame you 80% of the time in EuW even if you only do 1 mistake in laning phase.

They instantly think they can perform better on the champ in that certain game. And the worst thing about how they say it is a smooth: you really have 1 million mastery points?

It's disgusting and disrespectful. I do have self anxiety issues, I don't cope well with stuff like that even tho I'm a one trick I try my best to cope with the pressure.

The community is just bad. It gets to everyone who can think logically or someone who is a realist.

I don't really get that feeling.

After learning a bulk of what the champ has to offer you are opened up to learning more about how to play the actual game.

Sure, you have 5 W's of how to play your champion, but do you know the macro game? How your ally's match-ups go and what the win conditons for them are?
Are you making sure to look at the minimap every couple of seconds? Warding is extremely complicated, when should you deviate from the lazy "oh hey, the brush is 2 metres away from me?", why should you, where should you, and how can you? Do you know where and when you should be fighting w/ how the teams are composed? At what times should the teams be outmatching one another? What negates those conditions? How ahead do they have to be for you to even consider surrendering?

i only get this when im in promos (usually) when i feel like "ok now i play my main cause I CAN PERFORM GOOD WITH THEM" and then comes the... "but what if i dont perform well?" thought lol

Yeah so don't do it in ranked.

I used to ,but no longer. I realized it is more about your general skill level and a mood that affects it. For me, my mood plays important role in my games, so generally speaking in a right mood I will perform better with new champion than in a bad mood with high mastery champion. I don't feel any responsibilty playing high mastery champions though.

I'm actually kinda the opposite. I feel calm playing my more-played champions due to familiarity. And I feel stressed playing new champions (in ranked) because I'm worried I'll cost our team the game due to lack of experience. But I do see where you're coming from

First time I played Irelia I got an S.

Although that was probably because of how overtuned she was on release.

You got to much self awareness, tho, I did forget about the name of this condition. But it's something like: they are watching me, I have to act properly.

As a fix, try to take yourself and others less seriously, especially in games. making jokes will help 😉

I'm the inverse. I feel the need to improve with the new champion, or why am I even playing it?

If I'm playing a champ I know I like I'm more confident and therefore less stressed

Although I wouldn't really say either option is 'stressful' to me. I get a little upset if I fail with either, and angry if someone on my team is being a douche. Thats about it

Yes, I think you are just an insecure guy.

Playing the same champions over and over can give you very bad habits at time that you don't properly see until you play another champion that challenge said conception. Like it is amazing to me how Yasuo is now nothing to fear with my mains champion on mid when 3/4 years ago I was really stressing/raging about him with them.

But playing new champions clearly made me see my champions strength and weakness more. You know like, how you always play xerath and you get f*ck and then you play leblanc or ahri, and you do better. And then you realize you never played xerath while respecting your own lack of mobility, but you also never abused of your range and capacity to zone people of creeps.

I feel it is what happen, it widden your view.

And I definitely agree with playing with less stress at time because your focus is on improving, not having expected result.
