Low Spec Mode isn't Low Spec at all

From what I've heard, I'm not the only one with this issue. Ever since a year or two ago, the client became slow beyond reason. I remember being able to run 'Regular Spec Mode' for lack of a better term absolutely smoothly and now even Low Spec Mode lags beyond reason. I know for a fact that I'm not the only one with this issue, and that issue is: Why exactly does Low Spec Mode still load so many unnecessary flashy animations and sound effects if it's called Low Spec Mode? Riot says that 95% of the bugs with the client remain unfixed and that they don't prioritize any of the bugs that don't affect matchmaking. Well, it really does mean something when you don't even have time to create a normal new Rune Page for a counterpick to someone if your pick order is halfway through or closer to the last, even if you know exactly which runes you want to go. Literally every rune you click on, it lags for 3 seconds before playing those unnecessary flashy animations and sound effects on Low Spec Mode of all things. Not only, but due to this, when the timer loads to count down from 10, it's really 7 seconds, or at least from what I've seen, the worst has been counting down from 9 only for the match to begin at 7 seconds through, kicking me off my desired rune page and pairing me up with those default rune preset pages we've all been sick of having.

I don't often get pissed off about things but if even this pisses me off in normal draft pick, I can't believe the nightmares people would have of this in ranked champion select.

I at least want an answer as to why Low Spec Mode exists if it's not low spec at all, it's just "a tiny bit lower than full spec" mode. I've suggested this before and I will suggest it again. If they do wanna keep this current Low Spec Mode, introduce a "Minimal Spec Mode" where there's literally no animations and all the sounds for the runes are all the exact same simple "click" sound. Everything's static, plain and fast: what a 'Low Spec Mode' should actually be.

just give me back the old client. 0 issues, smooth af, looked archaic but I dont really care. 1000x faster.

EDIT: At least give us the option to keep the old client. Functionality > than flashy animations. Honestly even just a basic tab for chests without the glimmer would be welcomed too

We got this client for RGMs, oh wait...

technically it was for "features the old client does not support"

but it did support every game mode ever made and ran at 2 ghz (or the game did) whichever it really was

ran at 2ghz

What?

3TWarrior1 votes

2 gigahertz was the system requirement for the game. It got changed somewhere around season 6 or 7 to 2.8 gigahertz

it's not meant to be really complex. League was heavily advertised by being a game that even budget "toaster" computers could run unless you went for the hottest of toasters that were designed for only web browsing (stuff like the $100 1.X ghz laptops )

I am now severely disappointed...it's gotten to 3.0 ghz now. They must think everyone can afford gaming computers...no wonder there's bugs galore...the system requirements are getting higher for no changes to the game's rendering program

now that might be the standard for a couple hundred dollar desktop, but come on

they're asking for league's almost 2-D representations the same as what full 3-D applications require. You can run Dark Souls with similar specs

The old client had "session expired" in the store, and everyone connected at a different time.to chat in blind pick.

Aside from that it's better in all ways

I mean there's still connection issues and lane calls showing up in a different order. Idrk if I can call those issues fixed even on the new client

Would still rather the occasional bug like that over the insane lag that I get whenever I try to enter or leave a game. The old client had the basics down even if the premier features would suffer.

Rito gonna make us pay for legacy client once they realize no one wants to buy eternals

Honestly I'd pay for that lmao

Yeah the "new client" has been hot garbage from the very start, and always worse after patch day. But don't worry, it lets riot advertise new skins and other paid content so its here to stay. Wow, what a great company, they truly care about their customers.

Well client seems to take more processor power then the actual fucking game so that should be a red flag for riot right there.

Tfw when even the client is out of touch with the playerbase.

RIP my shitty old 5 year laptop runs low spec mode perfectly

You just know that the league client's optimization is utter shit when it keeps changing to low spec mode despite it running on a high-end pc.

Low Spec doesn't do anything, it doesn't lower the Client's lag the same way low graphic quality in-game with shadows and eye candy off. BOTH will still give you lags no matter what, whether it is client or in-game FPS related.

This happens on my other computer which is pretty weak. I just preset two rune pages (conq + domination and conq + resolve xd) so im covered. Also sometimes i am forced to forfeit the ban phase cause the client randomly freezes out

I kind agree but again installing league in a big and a little empty hard drive (beside the system's) kind helps the situation i don't have a low spec pc anymore but it used to help me back then and try to run it the highest resolution for me its full screen for you it might be 1900 x 800 or something like that if u want full screen go to the settings and make it so ur task bar hides it self then restart the launcher and go to resolution and the highest resolution should be there

PS : its not really full screen it just takes the whole screen you can still hover it around and do stuff lol

rito just added new optimization preferences option on pbe in game settings:D its 20 f*ckin 19........

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

can they give the old client back atleast, the other one functioned perfectly for me... but this one? is just trash

Old client will never come back.

  1. new client is just superior in every way.

  2. old client physically would not run. Why bring back a useless pos that wouldnt work?

If the client had a public API with bindings in a few popular languages, you would see some cool shit right quick, lemme tell you.

3TWarrior1 votes

lol, they could earn back some of their audience by offering to reduce unnecessary effects. League used to require 2 Ghz of processing power. It now requires 3 for almost no changes to the rendering process or game itself

i Have an I7 9700k and the client somehow ends up using 3.3% of my CPU doing nothing, that makes nos sense especially with how good this CPU is and how essentually the client isnt even ingame. The ingame client somehow uses less CPU than the base client.

Low Spec mode or not, I still have those friends saying that "ThE oLd ClIeNt WaS cRaPpY aNd WaSn'T uSeR fRiEnDlY aT aLl"

Sure, maybe that client is user friendly and clearly put what stuff is inside and maybe have more stuff, but I rather have that old rusty client that still works and have almost no bugs than a client that sure looks shiny and all, but is completely fucked up

Just compare that with a Nokia 3310 and an iPhone.

Noob question, what's the difference betweeb low spec mode and normal mode? I don't run low spec and I'm having a lot of issues so I'm considering running it

This is what bothers me. You'd think Low Spec Mode would sacrifice all flashy animations and sound effects for less lag but nah, take the normal mode and take out like 20% of the animations and that's Low Spec Mode.
