Kat changes didn't quite do what we'd hoped so they've been pulled for now. Might get revisited at some point, no definitive plans though.
Veigar and Morde changes are tentatively scheduled for 5.4 - they've proved to be tougher jobs than originally hoped.

Yes but it would take like 6 years for Riot to do that considering how long they take to rework anything
Yeah, it can be frustrating when work doesn't pan out if it's something we've discussed publicly. We could just never talk about anything we're trying until it's guaranteed to go out, that seems like a terrible idea though.

So you've talked about Veigar, what about Morde?
His ghost is interesting but for something that's probably the most interesting part of him it feels tacked on and unimportant. I'm guessing it's turning into a damage amp mark, but maybe it should be a summon that consumes a champ if it kills it and interacts like a zed shadow does?
He just spams spells at you and gets a shield that he doesn't really interact with, but has to spam because the shield goes down like crazy. Maybe it would be cooler if his health costs actually subtracted from his shield first?
Also giant suit of armor with a mace as a CCless burst Mage squishy is really really weird.
Current direction with Morde involves:
I like the perceived direction. A metal man should be tanky after-all. Though from the description I can't help but shake the feeling he'll just become a worse version of rumble. Or alternatively become a significantly better version of Rumble. What I'm saying is I don't really want another Rumble running around the rift. So please just be careful with that.
Current direction with Morde involves:
- Making him tankier (let him survive in a fight longer, align with his thematics)
- Shifting him to more of a sustained damage dealer, less of a burst character (better match with a tanky champ, play up the teamplay on both sides from someone being tagged by his ult, rather than just having someone vanish in a cloud of damage and a Ghost appear).
Is he going to get CC at all? All of that sounds fantastic but I can't help but feel an escapeless pushing maniac without some form of CC is going to be useless
Pump all the power into his kit. A pushing maniac without cc wont be useless if he can fight both the jgler and the top laner at once
Is there any intention of making him still viable as a AP heavy/mage character with DPS and tankyness sustained by outputting a lot of damage or are you just gonna make him a fighter?
Current intent is that he'll still build AP and be based around his spells, but will live longer/kill slower.
will he get any cc like slows? If he can't burst his enemies, i feel like they can just literally walk away from him if they feel like it.
Let's use this thread to talk about Mordekaiser The above is a recent discussion about Mordekaiser, there are some ideas on there that might be interesting. There are some concept kits, and I feel it important to mention because of copyright issues floating around, just in case that's a barrier for you when it come to this kind of topic. I appreciate the work you put in, keep it up!

Don't worry no rush
I was already told for the entirety of S4 that I'm not allowed to win with Darius anymore so I main Vlad now
Thing is it's been literal years since you guys first said that. I understand shit happens but when a class has been screwed over and pushed to the brink of viability for over half a year straight you need to do something even if your ideal solution fell through. I just want to not suck in lane while you're working on whatever with no real ETA. I think the overwhelming feeling is that you probably aren't even trying to push through a fighter rework any more and just left it on some back burner, and I think it is 100% reasonable to suspect that.
If you can't tell us what does work, why not tell us what you tried that DIDN'T work? That way we know at least some progress is being made, instead of a vague hand-wavey "changes are coming".
You know what helps? Telling us about stuff that has been attempted, what exactly is being done, etc. Telling us early isn't the problem; tossing out an intent and then not following through visibly is the problem. Don't do the whole "then we'd just be silent" thing; that has always been and will always be bull.
what's so hard about standerdizing veigar's ult's mana cost to 100 like all other mages?
Or about reducing the mana cost of his q by 10 points at all ranks? Veigar isn't in a bad spot atm, he's just suffering from outdated mana costs with a shallow itemization pool to help him with it.
As above Veigar's got some counterplay problems. We want to make him healthier to play against, so it's ok if he's strong, rather than buffing him only to feel we immediately have to nerf him because of how he can be to play against.
Okay, so what are the odds you might change either his Q or R (or both) into a skill-shot? Would that be too jarring?
As for his E, I've always hated how it can be an instant AOE stun when placed correctly. If it had a delay before it fully activated, then I think it'd be just fine, but I'm sure people will b!tch about that.
Q as skillshot's one of the things we're trying, not sure if it's currently on the kit in testing or not.
Giving E a brief delay to play up the 'where do I stand inside the cage?' aspect, and then potentially increasing its range or lowering its CD's also being investigated.
plz no, not a skill shot. pretty plz? his q is already painful enough when you cast it and the minion dies before it connects, or the minion survives with 1 hp. but now you are allowing the enemy to body block his q's as well? (not to mention, some times the lowest health minion isn't always in front, this will make veig have to expose himself far more than necessary to farm q stacks)
the last thing veig needs atm is unreliable dmg.
EDIT: besides, not all of us can play on the west coast, nor do all of us have the best reflexes necessary for champs that are overly reliant on skill shots.

They never said it would be a line skillshot. It could easily be a comet to play on his space theme.
hey already has that tho, his W
hey already has that tho, his W
Well the line isn't that bad since it probably has higher range than on live and can be used to farm from afar if in a bad matchup
as I mentioned elsewhere, a valid concern I have about it is that it will shift his playstyle too far away from "burst mage" into "poke/siege mage" territory. his W is alreayd good at sieging turrets, and his stun is great for catching champs that get too far out. If you throw in a skill shot line nuke into the mix, he'll just sit there spamming spells while you dance under tower. It'll be nid nuclear spears all over again.

Was he ever really supposed to be a burst Mage? I feel like it was just a byproduct of old riot not knowing what good values for base damage or AP ratios were in general.
Veigar should be the ultimate farm and then nuke you Mage, which means he is a siege Mage with weak early that turns into a burst Mage late game
...not sure if serious.
you just contradicted yourself. farm and nuke = burst mage. also, siege mages don't have bad laning phases because that is the inherent part of their kit, farming well is what makes them siege mages. If veig's q is turned into a skill shot and his mana values are brought down, ppl will max w second just wave clear with it.
When was the last time xerath or ziggs struggled in lane? seriously. these 2 are the (currently) premier siege mages. Karma is also a good poke mage.
bad early, strong late is not compatible with a siege champ playstyle.
Meddler, please listen to me as I love playing Veigar and from your posts I'm worried he's headed to an awful direction. Veigar doesn't have any counterplay problems, in fact there's a lot of counterplay to him.
Magic Resist. Seems obvious, I know, but you'd be surprised how often people either pick up a miniscule amount or none at all vs Veigar, those people tend to cry the most too. MR really screws with Veigar because of reason #2.
He can either kill you with a combo, or he has almost no hope of killing you at all. If you're still alive after Veigar QWR's you, congrats, Veigar is a free kill for you at least until he gets another AP item or farms for days.
Stun down? Massive cooldown? Yeah. Veigar's a free kill.
BUY TENACITY, BANSHEE'S, OR QSS There isn't a single stat that screws over a champion as much as Tenacity or QSS screws over Veigar. It makes him almost useless.
Don't be stupid. If Veigar is on the enemy team and is doing well, don't ignore what I've said above. Everyone who whines about Veigar never buys Tenacity or Banshee's against him.
CHAMPIONS THAT RENDER HIM (largely) USELESS: I don't mean lane counters, I mean champions with skills or abilities that seriously mess with his gameplay.
In short, Veigar has more counterplay than a lot of other champions and weakening him further would throw him into trash-tier. He's an immobile mage to boot.
If these changes do go through, I really hope he gains some extra mobility like Ahri did or lower cooldowns / Mana costs otherwise he's going to drop even further out of the meta.
- Magic Resist. Seems obvious, I know, but you'd be surprised how often people either pick up a miniscule amount or none at all vs Veigar, those people tend to cry the most too. MR really screws with Veigar because of reason #2.
"just buy magic resist" is kinda a lame excuse to counterplay, because you can say it about any mage, and suddenly every champion in this game got counterplay, which is clearly not true.
- He can either kill you with a combo, or he has almost no hope of killing you at all. If you're still alive after Veigar QWR's you, congrats, Veigar is a free kill for you at least until he gets another AP item or farms for days.
which is even more lame, a champion that reliant on one combo and useless without it? how much more of a binary design can it be?
- Stun down? Massive cooldown? Yeah. Veigar's a free kill.
adding a delay, reducing cd and incresing range? damn, a skill that got counterplay and available more often? what's bad about it ? it's the entire point of those changes.
- BUY TENACITY, BANSHEE'S, OR QSS There isn't a single stat that screws over a champion as much as Tenacity or QSS screws over Veigar. It makes him almost useless.
another lame argument for point one
- Don't be stupid. If Veigar is on the enemy team and is doing well, don't ignore what I've said above. Everyone who whines about Veigar never buys Tenacity or Banshee's against him.
and again, repeat of point one.
- Morgana: Her shield will let enemies pass right through your stun, as well as soak up your damage.
morgana's shield doesn't absord 2k damage from his ultimate ONLY.
- Garen: This guy does not die. This is the classic Veigar dilemma of "if you can't combo it, you can't kill it".
garen is useless, and you not supposed to focus him as veigar anyway. He's just a meat wall late game. Kitable, useless meat wall.
- Anyone with a gapcloser. Veigar is a non-mobile mage, this should be self explanatory.
only if he didn't have his instant stun... leblanc jumps on me ?! stun her and nuke her with just my ultimate.... amazing
- Anyone with temporary invulnerability (including Zhonya's). Nice stun, mind if I walk through it as if it were nothing? Oh was that your ult, sorry it missed me.
if you don't get it, veigar's stun is instant, and last for 3 seconds, not a single invulnerabilty skill last for 3 seconds
- Anybody who's smart enough to not let Veigar farm in the beginning will render his whole game obsolete.
veigar can just farm undertower, just like a nasus...
Any chance we can talk about Veigar? He was my first "main" and got me from level 6 to 30, and then a few hundred more.
I stopped playing him mostly because I got tired of losing every single matchup in the game. Once syndra was released I felt like she bursted just as hard as he did, but got to be a bully with hard CC during the early game. I think the last straw was me feeding 4 kills to a vayne who decided she didn't want to deal with Vayne's early game bot lane and went mid to murder me.
I find the design of his kit fascinating in how the Passive + Baleful Strike serve to fuel a sense of megalomania in lane. A sort of, "Just one more stack." That nasus and sion do not share in. That plus who doesn't love that lategame power curve. :D
The thing is, his main appeal is becoming that 1000 AP magic button who can delete any given enemy teammate. Any 2 if the enemy team is mage heavy.
I'm not even sure what sort of buffs he can have. He has 2 brutal point and click damage spells, and an E that is head and shoulders better than most ultimates.
Odds are very high Veigar won't just be straight buffed. His kit's got some serious counterplay issues (undodgeable instant stun when used right, two point and click nukes) that we need to address. Bundled with counterplay improvements though should be some better tools for Veigar himself (e.g. less binary tools, so he's got better options in tough lanes, lower mana costs, lower CDs, bit more range on some stuff etc - note these aren't set in stone changes though, just possibilities).
With you on the megalomania feel, and we've got no desire to change that.
I get the feeling Veigar is going to join my list of "mains I don't want to play anymore" with Cass, and Skarner soon.
I hear you on cass

I have to say, I share your apprehension. I just do not think Veigar is going to survive a collision with "modern" LoL design. I think he'll come out of it wishy-washy and generic.
That said, who knows. Riot's designers are talented people. They've pulled off some good work in the past. Maybe they'll have a flash of insight about Veigar. I just really worry that this team is being run by people who don't "get" Veigar in the first place.
It's arguably a good thing that they've decided to "take more time" with him; it suggests they do care about getting him right. On the other hand, it heightens my concerns that he's going to be completely unrecognizable at the end of this.
There are a lot of old Champions with clunky, disorganized kits that don't make any sense. Veigar isn't one of them. I just wish Riot would see that.
Odds are very high Veigar won't just be straight buffed. His kit's got some serious counterplay issues (undodgeable instant stun when used right, two point and click nukes) that we need to address. Please don't ruin veigar.
First of all, I main Veigar. He is the first champ I have ever played (not considering tutorial with Ashe) and he is basically the champ I love the most. I was not one of those who cried when DFG was removed but considering what you said about his e, well, in my opinion you have never played him. Not enough counter play? 1 A summoner spell 2 Banshee 3 Mercury 4 Champs Ability/passives 5 Crucibile 6 QuickSilver Sash
In my opinion considering him as not counterable is absurd, do I have to remind that a lot of toplanes can almost ignore cc? I say this if you put a delay on his stun, you will kill my little guy. But my words are just wind through trees, if your aim is to put this game into the ipermobile champs assasin, well, there is nothing I can do...
I will not say nothing more, I do not have to say please, or thank you or whatever if you read this comment, I'm speaking to you as a player with my hearth on my hand... This is an omicide and you sure know it.
LolloMaximo
*edit, grammar
Tenacity ruins him, so Merc Treads and Banshee's Veil are good mentions, but the rest are completely ridiculous.
is a risky summoner spell to pick in general, especially in blind pick. "Champ abilities" is so vague that I don't even know what your point was. Using abilities to dodge spells? Not many people have those, and even fewer that don't require targets like Twisted Advance or Sweeping Blade.
must be purchased by another play, and even then, isn't suitable for all champs.
is completely useless on mages.
When people say he has no counterplay, they mean his extremely powerful, targeted nukes. Event Horizon + Dark Matter is fine where it is. Dark Matter has such a long cast time, that people need to be stunned in order to land it. The problem is that Event Horizon isn't tied to Dark Matter. He can stun people in a huge AoE for 2 1/2 seconds, walk up, erase them with his Q + extremely broken ult.
Seriously, 120% of his own AP AND 80% of an opponent's. This is a joke, and it allows him to get slaughtered in lane but still win fights because he lost lane, and his enemy got AP. Consider against
. Also slow (slower, actually), much more mana hungry, also has very potent AP ratios (two 100%s), and a spell to restrict enemy movement. The difference? You can walk around Crystallize until late game when it becomes huge, even if it blocks your path, it never stuns or even slows you, you can dash through it (whereas Event Horizon stops and stuns people who try that). Her strong AP ratios aren't supplemented by her opponent's, like Veigar's. Event Horizon is max size at level one, and there's no walking around it.
I believe he was referring to things like
Oranges (W) and
Ult (breaks CC upon use)
His ult... And I suppose
She can save her soulbound with her ult if they get stunned
And about his ult... and what if he's enemy is AD? Like Zed? Jayce or Yasuo?
You can get through Event Horizon with things like
Rift Walk (R) and Flash and if Veigar have E on cooldown he has no way to defend himself or land his W other then blowing up his target preferably before he is killed himself

Nobody will see this post unfortunately cause it's so deep in this mess of a board's layout, except for perhaps you, the person I'm quoting cause it will notify you, and since I completely disagree with you, you'll hate what I have to say and downvote me, but it's worth saying.
"No counterplay" and "extremely powerful" are not synonyms and Riot and players who think like this need to learn this. Veigar on the enemy team? Guess the support should build a
or maybe the AP champs need to pick up a
or a
.
This isn't aimed at anyone personally, but I'm tired of people QQing because they can only counter a champ at the cost of their beloved full build, braindead, exact same, 6 damage items only. Building defensive items to adjust to your opponent's team comp is the definition of "counterplay." The fact that people think champions can't ever build more than one way is cancerous and needs to be beaten out of them.
Oh and by the way, if you're playing in ranked or normal draft, for one nobody's ever gonna pick Veigar, but on the off chance they do, and he's not last picked, Morgana completely counters him just by existing, and she also happens to be amazing as a support, so she, unlike Veigar, is a versatile and good pick your team won't hate you for.
Secondly I have to address this quote "The problem is that Event Horizon isn't tied to Dark Matter. He can stun people in a huge AoE for 2 1/2 seconds, walk up, erase them with his Q + extremely broken ult."
This is not a problem, this is Veigar's identity. I'm dead serious. THIS. IS. VEIGAR'S. IDENTITY. This is literally how and why any and all Veigar players play him. Being able to completely destroy someone cause he stunned them is what he does. Being able to always be a threat to the enemy AP champs even if he's way behind or being played as a support is a key component to his appeal. When Riot changes this (which they will) Veigar will be forever alone tier with Urgot, and it will just be more proof that the current balance team doesn't know shit about why people play certain champions. If they reduce or remove his stun, or his ult they'd be better off just taking him behind the shed and putting him out of his misery cause nobody will play him again.
PS. I'm already calling bullshit on the incoming reasons for incoming Veigar nerfs that Riot will inevitably say about Veigar "lacking meaningful tradeoffs." Veigar's meaningful tradeoffs right now are that he's so squishy, immobile, and short range that in order to matter at all he has to meaningfully get in range to land his combo before HE gets deleted, it's harder than it sounds, and any smart team will know this and prioritize killing him first, trust me, as someone who plays Veigar, he's not hard to kill. Having to be in a very specific and good position to be able to succeed is a very meaningful tradeoff, in fact it's so meaningful, it's probably the only reason Veigar isn't played constantly and isn't truly OP. Being so hyper-mobile that you don't ever have to worry about positioning like tons of champions in this game are (including most of the newer ones) however is the least meaningful tradeoff of all, and it's insane to me that the balance team doesn't realize this. But oh wait, Veigar's stun wrecks mobile champs so that shit's got to go...
Unfortunately, Veigar is no longer the only mage who can reach 1000 AP.
The new Cass can now hit it, and she has sustained damage, not burst.
That being said, Cass hits a cap, Veigar doesn't.
karth used to hit 1k ap easy back in the day. 5 aa rods and a dcap woot woot!
like any other champion who built the exact same items
yeah, but karth was really the only one that could afford to build them. most other mages needed the benefits from other items. Karth had his passive to allow him to explode and still output amazing dps
but it doesn't change the fact that every champion could do it... since it was just an item build... veigar and cass can make it through tools in their kit, which is a completely different thing
hoenstly, I don't see why cass should need to break the 1k ap threshold anyway. riot nerfed her ratios when they gave her that ap boosting passive, so it all works out to be the same...
there's no point to it, if they wanted to make her early bullying less annoying they could just lower the ratios and make that her passive increasing her ratios when she getting X stacks... for the same exact effect
