LIke, I know the whole double zeal item ie er build. But how do you know when that's the build you should go for?

As draven, last game in particular we had a Leona and I thought, ok. Ill try a lifesteal build. I went BT to RFC into Mercurial and it was great. Mercurial first would have been good too. Probably a little better than bt if we had been against good opponents.

So I went for the lifesteal build because it would include mercs vs a leona and because I was playing draven upon whom LS is particularly good. But how else and why else would I vary my build? I'm not used to doing this. When is deaths dance good? How do I know how much crit I should build?

I've always kinda thought thinking about the final build is the wrong way to go about it. You win by having the right items at the right time, not by having the "right" final build in mind. Every item has a purpose, and you should build what you MOST need at that point in the game, or what you anticipate needing when the item is complete.

You build item 3508 for CDR. That's really the only people who get it. It will max your CDR as you get crit, and that's what makes it good.

item 3031 is for damage. You get it when you know you'll get more crit later and you want AD now.

item 3087 is for wave clear and/or burst. You get it for one (or both) of those things.

item 3035 is for when you are against a big tank causing you problems. Yeah, you usually don't want to focus the tank, but if he's in your face, and you have to kill him, you better have armor pen.

item 3123 / item 3033 is when you're against DrMundo . Or anyone else that heals, but he's the one that's op and picked a lot right now. It drives me CRAZY when the adc doesn't get grievous wounds against DrMundo .

Etc. I won't list all the items, but just try to think about how each one is going to help you the most. The zeal items are some of the easiest to differentiate, imo, but it's important to think about all the items. Think about what each item is giving you over another one, and build what you need.

1). thunderlords for keystone imo is the best you can get for great damage. 2). item 3508 item 3006 item 3139 is the usual core for all adc builds now that are not AA based. 3). item 3153 if the enemy team is high health based, item 3812 for getting the most for your attacks when you are ahead, item 3142 if you need speed. 4). item 3156 is usually a safe item especially if 3+ are ap on the enemy team. 4). item 3035 if their healing capabilities are greater than normal (i.e. someone like soraka or mundo is on there team) or item 3036 for most other situations. 5). item 3085 is great if you have a proc like Caitlyn or Jinx. 6). item 3094 is good for almost any champion but especially if they have short range or are a caster (MF or Luc are good examples of casters). 7). item 3046 is great for champions who like to chase or have slow attack speed/ need to get many basic shots off (Best example is Vayne). 8). item 3004 and item 3025 are good for those champions who have low CD abilities and tend to be more front lines, but are mana hungry like Ezreal and Urgot. 9). item 3071 item 3022 item 3087 item 3053 are more uncommon build items since they tend to be used by top laners for tanky/damage and shiv has a better alternative in item 3094 . 10). item 3031 if you are going for a crit build (crit around or over 75%) 11). item 3072 this item, although it is good for its life Steal stat and padding your health, it is an item you should only take if behind since other items do its job better and provide more utility in fights 12). item 1055 item 1083item 1036 are your choices for starting items.

remember that passives don't stack but raw stats do. so double zeal is great for the raw stats but if you want better movement speed upgrade them to double item 3094 for the highest increase to general movement speed

That depends on the ADC. Graves is all about his shotgun, so you should focus on attack damage and crit chance. Kog'Maw's W halves his attack damage while giving him percent damage and doubling his attack speed over the 2.50 limit, so focus on attack speed and hit effects. Isolate their strengths and build around that.
