@Riot ; The Mordekaiser Rework, From a 5+ year Veteran with 1k+ Morde Games

Remade because it was deleted from Champion Concepts section.

Hey Riot! I appreciate you reading this. I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

First off, Mordekaiser is my favorite champion in the League of Legends. I am against the concept of a rework. While he may be unpopular, he is definitely not underpowered. However, it seems as though how strong or weak he is is not playing a factor in whether or not you will be changing/reworking him, but rather his lack of identity.

It is funny that he would be changed because of a perceived lack of identity though, because he is arguably the most unique champion in this whole entire game. His ult is in a class of its own, the way his passive works, and how his kit interacts with it in general is all not only unique to this game but to the whole MOBA genre as a whole. I want to preserve this identity as much as possible.

I see a lot of those proposed reworks, various players asking for CC and whatnot, but as someone with well over a thousand Mordekaiser games under his belt, what would Morde have to give up for CC? He needs his damage in order to build his shield, but he needs tankiness in order for his shield to be strong. It is this balance of power which causes Mordekaiser to be so balanced despite having such an amazing/fun passive and one of the largest game-impacting ultimates. I don't want to see this balance of power tweaked. I remember the glory days of Mordekaiser before Season 1 when he was an indestructible being that raised havoc across the Summoner's Rift, before he became this AP thing he is today. I don't want to see that happen again.

I am very happy with the current Mordekaiser, and if things change with him in a way that is too drastic/unfavorable I may have to walk away from the game because I don't know if I'll be able to find in enjoyable anymore. You see, many of the champions that I enjoyed are actually the ones that have received reworks, and the reworks have been hit and miss. However, even if they had all been successful, I ask that this one champion please be preserved for us veterans of the community, and selfish me. I feel like with each change a part of their identity is lost, and eventually its like learning an entirely new champion. Which is fine, but Mordekaiser is a true gem not only to LoL but to MOBAs as a whole. Mordekaiser es #1 right? huehuehue. Despite how unpopular he is currently, reworking/changing the way he builds his passive won't guarantee him becoming more popular. He has over a 50% win rate in normals and ranked, and I understand win rates are a deceiving statistic, but if he isn't broken why fix it?

Also, his perceived "lack of tankiness" is not a flaw in the champion, but in the way people build the champion. If you examine the most popular items/build paths on Mordekaiser, people just prefer to build him AP. I personally prefer building him tank. That is another thing special about Mordekaiser, all the different ways you can build and succeed with the champion.

Anyways, thanks big time for reading this Riot, hopefully this means something. If you guys still must rework him I would like it if I could help come up with ideas, I wasn't a fan at all of the proposed changes made that had his shield scale off of his max life %.

I would also like to note, I feel as though his perceived lack of counterplay from E is more than made up for by his lack of mobility and inability to capitalize on the enemy's mistakes via a gap closer.

I am becoming afraid of becoming attached to champions due to your recent string of reworks/overhauls of kits. I am particularly fond of old-school 2009-2010 champions because those were the guys they give me so much nostalgia from when I first started playing the game. Its just sad seeing them go, especially in this case as he has been my main for years and he isn't hurting in the win rate category.

I too love morde quite a bit (super excited for the new skin) and I can agree that if they change his kit too much I will cry ;_;

In my opinion league works on a "Rock, paper and scissors" concept also seen as "Tanks (Tanks), sustained damage (Marksmen) and burst damage (Assassins)" Tanks counter burst damage, burst damage counters sustained damage and sustained damage counters tanks. Champions like LeBlank are Burst damage, able to deal high amounts of damage with long cool-downs to balance it. Sustained damage is like Ashe, able to constantly deal damage but vulnerable to being burst down. Tanks are usually like Maokai, Able to take large amounts of damage preventing them from being burst down but continuous damage will grind them down. Now there are exceptions to this being; A champions ultimate, Now Ultimates are what let the character excel in an area that it is already great at (Alistars ultimate for example), lets them temperately change their play style (Cho'gath gets burst damage with his ultimate despite being a tank) or help an ally with their role (Ashe ult can help ally's in fights or to help the tank engage). From the three basic classes we get combinations such as; Bruiser, Support, Mage, Teemo and so on, Each being a mixture between the different roles each sharing weaknesses and strengths. Buffs and Debuffs are also an exception, This consist of Stuns, slows, Silences and similar effects as debuffs with Heals, Shields, Movement speed and similar buffs, Normally a champion has to give a part of its role in order to get Buffs or Debuffs, This can anything from mobility (Xerath) to Damage (Leona) to Cool-downs (Alistar) or even the fighting strength of a champion (Janna). Passives are another thing that are also an occasional exception, Some will give Buffs like extra move speed (Miss fortune's "Strut") Extra damage or Health (Vladimir's "Crimson pact") or even give them a Debuff to inflict (Nautilus's "Staggering blows"), they may also give them something totally different like Azirs turrets and LeBlanks clone. If we look at supports we see that most of them give up either personal suitability or damage in order to protect their ally's with buffs and cripple the enemy with debuffs, looking a mage we can see that they don't have the same burst as an assassin but they have more sustained damage, So on an so forth with the other combinations. When I first started playing Mordekaiser he felt like a bruiser, a sustained damage dealer that was tanky, His basic ability's are gear towards sustained damage and his passive towards tank, his ultimate let him deal burst to a target and under the right conditions let him increase his sustained damage for a limited time. Mordekaiser didn't have any real form of De-buff/buff or mobility (He got extra Armour/magic resistance on his w but it basically just traded its tiny range around his target for it) in his basic ability's, allowing him to have pure damage limited by its small range. His passive was his only real tank part of him, a percentage of the damage he dealt would be given back to him as a shield, this synergised well with his basic ability's being based on pure damage, the shield replaced his mana bar and instead of using mana he used his hp, So what he does is trade his HP for his shield. His ultimate let him go from a Sustained damage dealing tank (Bruiser) to a burst champion letting him deal large amounts of damage to a single target followed by a Damage Over Time effect, if the target is to die to the damage of the ult or the duration of the DoT then you obtain a "Ghost" of the target this "Ghost" would deal damage for you increasing your sustained damage for the duration of the ghost. In my opinion Mordekaiser is alright where he is but could use some fine tuning (Little more damage, little more shield, little more Armour or magic resistance, S̶o̶m̶e̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶D̶F̶G̶ ̶b̶e̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶r̶e̶m̶o̶v̶e̶d̶ and so on) to help him as he grows older and gets out classed by newer champions. Another thing I would like to point out is that in this current meta a tanks job is to protect those that deal damage or keep the enemy's damage dealers busy so your damage deals can deal damage risk free, without Debuffs to inflict this becomes hard because if you build damage you are more susceptible to being killed by the enemy damage dealers but you will draw the attention but if you have cc you don't need to have the higher chance of being killed and can still keep the enemy damage dealers busy, So having Mordekaiser become a tank without cc isn't very viable because his damage would be low without damage items and without debuffs he is easy to ignore (Other than walking in front of everything)

TL;DR - Mordekaiser is alright were he is at this moment but I little help might be needed soon.

Stew52, Mordekaiser main. (I maybe bronze but by my opinion should still be looked at)

(I know some of you will just not bother reading or some will just think my opinion on league of legends core game play is stupid or strange but this is my opinion not yours and I think its alright.)

I agree with your points aside from tanky mord not being effective. Tank mord is very damn hard to kill and still does a ton of damage. Build magic pen runes, sorc boots, abyssal scepter, and tank items from then on, possibly a void staff if other team has a load of mr. He deals a ton of damage, survives longer, and due to him surviving longer his ghost survives longer. Your ghost's damage gives you shielding as well, making you extremely damn hard to kill and dealing quite a lot of damage despite building so tanky.

Your job is the same as AP mord's, only you survive longer.

I do agree with you on the aspect of the old mordekaiser i've been playing him for 4+ years and the new changes actually are pretty nice with 2 helping you get back to lane faster by casting it on a minions and his now ranged q has enabled me to get more kills than before when having to take that extra step. also my morde build is linandry's sorc boots will of the ancients abyssal scepter or void staff (depending on who their mid is) and a ludens echo with rabadans for tnaky items depending on how much AD they got i would replce the abby scepter and ludens with thornmail+warmog's combo and if i needed MR i always went with spirit visage due to increased healing effects.

Almost every new rework has horrifically nerfed the target champion. I hope riot just stops reworks all together and understands that older champions have their niches for a reason, and don't need some horrifically overloaded bs slammed into one move while getting the rest of their abilities nerfed. Veigar, zilean, ryze, and cassiopeia are consistant examples of where riot destroys a champions identity by overloading unhealthy power into one move (usually a skillshot) and then destroying everything else.
