success: made spells less reliable, and delayed damage with more window of power Taric Poppy Shen Warwick Yorick Sion Darius MordekaiserViktor Zilean Gangplank Vladimir Talon Gragas Kassadin Veigar Fizz Graves (needs nerfs but his damage are less reliable than before with more counterplay)Ryze with all the nerfs he took i think he's fine, his point and click snare lasts 0.75 second and no longer has 2 sec cooldown like all the previous versions

failure:Akali Shaco GarenCassiopeia Katarina Zyra absolutly nothing changed Syndra i fail to see what changed again, if anything she became worse because of her Q lifetime being high Khazix by far one of the worst rework i ever saw, removing less counterplay from a champion Malzahar damage went from spells to minions, but who cares if in the end he still has no counterplay Rengar crit on ult, wp repertoire. He jumps on you and if you cc/dash out, he still removes 50% to 70% of your hp in 0.01 sec

honorable mention: Sona instead of giving her a good counterplay riot made her going in low range to fight which made her unplayable in high elo--->the counterplay idea was terrible

Everyone hates Rengar's when you don't realize how much potential damage was removed from his kit.

By holding onto your ferocity you could get five stacks then ult, and if you have an infinity edge you could prime your next AA for a crit, and your Q could crit back then. So you had 135% AD scaling Q that gave you increased attack speed for a few seconds that was primed for a crit. Oh, and unlike now you had no advance warning about his ult or ability to see him when he ults.

new taric gained counterplay and lost fun

So tbh it's still a failure

the fizz rework was one of the best mini reworks by far. Didnt change his kit much but added so much counterplay and gave him strengths to compensate.

also are you a 100% sure about talon? yes they slowed down his W by a bit, but its still relatively easy to land on an immobile champ. I feel like the counter play to talon went DOWN after the rework.

they removed his blink for an unreliable low range dash they nuked his base ms they delayed his W that can be sidestepped by everyone unless you're cc'ed by something else, literally anything even morde can dodge it by running on a 90° angle they nuked his ulti damage and shifted damage into a delayed passive they removed his damage amp

i'm sad about talon rework because i loved to blink from nowhere and assassinate someone

Yeah he doesnt have a blink anymore, but the thing about his "delayed" passive is that he can proc it in like 0.1 seconds.

Ralanr2 votes

How?

Penns1 votes

W- cancel it with Q- R mid air - then the automatic auto after Q will proc it.

Ralanr2 votes

You can cancel the W? Didn't know that honestly.

Penns1 votes

Yeah I think its pretty much like Sion E, so you can start channeling his Q right after pressing E or flash while casting E to shoot it from where you flashed to, right?

Example from my last game if that helps: https://i.gyazo.com/8cf2f0af8f89a19c3fb4b5ea79548717.mp4

Ralanr1 votes

I have never done the flash thing. The Q channel is obvious, but that's because the ability was already complete. I assumed you couldn't cancel Talon's W because they have to come back for the second proc.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

I don't know about that. Before the rework, his W was fast enough that both instances would pretty much always land. His ult could be reactivated much faster, and his gapcloser was an instant blink rather than a dash, meaning that unless you predict him, you couldn't use a projectile CC to stop it.

Maybe he's stronger (his early game is a lot better, especially his W), but that can be fixed by changing his numbers. The only thing I can think of that he lost counterplay on is that poking him isn't as effective as it was before because of his Q.

Requiemsfire1 votes

I used to play Talon mid all the time, he was pretty much a pocket pick for me and I can definitely tell with 100% confidence that the old talon was far more reliable in terms of being able to execute his target albeit depending on the situation with his own demise. He could R E W Q before the target even has time to react to you. Now his whole combo can be thwarted by sidestepping his W.

Penns2 votes

and gave him strengths to compensate.

Thats where I feel his rework failed, he lost a lot of stuff but gained absolutely nothing other than useless aoe damage on his ult because apparently he is good at initiating teamfights lel

Dracocrash2 votes

well they did lowerthe mana cost on E, give him the ability tofarm under tower and give his Q a lower cd at rank 1 as well.

preferred the old fizz as well. But after they gutted his E cd and W base damage because people were abusing tank fizz I just stopped having fun with him. Now at least hes playable.

Penns2 votes

Mana costs are nice but nothing big really. He could always farm under tower with W active, just that it didnt cost as much mana as it does now.

Dracocrash1 votes

to be honest compared to then and now, I find farming on fizz 10x easier. Maybe I just sucked, but now you can execute minions at a higher hp with an auto W combo, which means you have more opportunities to cs and less chance for the enemy laner to punish you for it.

And like I said, im sure you remember the patch where they downed on the fizz W % missing HP damage and upped the E cd by 2. That was ggwp for fizz's viability. Atleast now fizz gets to be viable.

(remember back in season 3 when you could buy lich bane and WQ the adc to death xD)

Penns1 votes

Its definitely easier, but it also costs more mana like I said and back then your dot was also way more reliable for farming since it did hissing hp damage.

Sure 6.12 never forget, but with the rework he lost the ability to apply 2 thunderlords stacks with Q and 3 with WQ, instantly procing it, almost all DPS, both dot and on hit, the ability to QR onto an enemy for a melee ult against champs like Yasuo or Ahri that would just block/dodge it on high range and 20% damage amp on ult which made up for all the unreliable burst he might have gotten from his new W and max range ult.

I really dont see the counterplay wiht him because whenever you throw your main spell or something at it he e's and then just goes in on you..

Dolasaur1 votes

Talon's time to kill when fed went up substantially. His W has slightly more delay, and a lot of his damage comes from his bleed. Both of those contribute to you now having the time to do SOMETHING before you die. Like have a lot more time to hit Zhonya's, for those of us that don't have lightning reflexes.

TheHappyReaperz2 votes

I feel Katarina has more counterplay since her rework, as her zones of power are far more clearly defined. I wouldn't say Akali or Shaco were failure's either. They may have not accomplished what the playerbase wanted, but they did deal with the some of the problems the champions had. Regarding Garen, he may not be the most highly skilled champ in the game, but he's still reasonably fun to play, pretty balanced, and effective, in the right hands.

Ultimate Deadpoo2 votes

The Mordekaiser rework a success?

I think you may have summoned Malicious Metal here, along with every other morde main on the boards. I'm pretty sure that rework was universally hated.

I assumed you were targeting all reworks.

Sugar Momma1 votes

Old Karma was reworked BECAUSE of lack counterplay (her Q wasn't a skillshot, her W wasn't either). Not saying it's accurate, but that was Riot's reason.

Mostro Gallo1 votes

Lol Viktor's rework made him more reliable though

Wet Dryman1 votes

His E is less reliable as you can walk away from his after burst (before he dealt that bonus damage to you anyway as burn effect) but I don't remember if something changed in other spells besides number tweaks and removal of silence from his ult.

WalkingInACircle1 votes

Kat feels much healthier to lane against for me. Took a bit to get used to but if you respect her space its an actual laning experience. Old Kat was entirely targeted facerolling.

Going to note this because people honestly overlook it due to not actually looking at numbers.

Kha'Zix actually took a damage nerf on his evolved Q but increased DPS. This means his "one-shot burst" combo was effectively gutted and you need to be carrying quite the number of items to execute it. His Q took a ratio nerf recently, only meaning that pre-rework it was definitely stronger on the single Q cast. I'm baffled to this day why people ignore that Kha'Zix is a scaling assassin and always has been, but Riot made him weaker on kills and stronger on objectives. I mained Kha since S4 and am okay with the changes they did, just not happy that Lethality got him nerfed due to being overtuned at the start.

Akali got early damage numbers (especially on the ulti) nerfed. She takes so long to kill a target now that it's ridiculous. If you think her counter-play didn't change then you haven't played a day of pre-rework Akali in your life.

Cassiopeia got a huge fix on her "spam E" bs that Riot gave her before while adding a better theme to her. She doesn't even have to buy boots anymore, that's a huge difference from both pre-rework and post-rework.

Malzahar already got a nerf to his minions so you can actually kite back from them. That was a huge patch change difference and Zyra saw the same added weakness to her AI. The goal for Zyra wasn't even adding counter-play, it was to make her kit less jank. Syndra was reworked and became dominant because of lv5 W. Completely unnecessary and Riot fixed her by removing it. Change was also done to make her feel less jank originally, and she definitely does feel different to her pre-update state where she was never seen unless she was the strongest. Same for Katarina, except Katarina actually has more counter-play if you play something like Annie/Brand because she ALWAYS has to get close to you in order to do something. Otherwise you need to know possible trajectories and minion pockets, poke her down when she tries to CS, and play safe because of her aggressive early. She didn't have an early game before so it's much easier to declare she has less counter-play now, but at the end of the day sounds like whining because she has an actual early game now.

Juggernaut patch is irrelevant for Garen specifically, because his succeeded. He smashed lower elo and still smashes lower elo, so he was nerfed due to that. You will see the same issue with Sona over and over because her numbers are extremely similar to mages. Her winrate as a support is actually stable too across most elo's and you are primarily relying on what one person said about Sona because he was high elo and a fellow Sona main. She needs to AA now for full damage on Q, literally adding a full second where she isn't moving. She didn't have that weakness before her rework so it was essentially free harass. I remember her being Soraka's replacement simply because she was the only team AoE heal until 6.14 when they buffed her damage back up.

Rengar got more counter-play on his ult but it's not like every champion can stop your dash. That's exactly why he's strong. Kit also feels more janky due to increased time it takes to kill people unless absolutely fed. His tanker builds are more unfair if anything, and that's because Riot hasn't Ekko'd him yet.

AD Shaco got nerfed and his early presence is less obnoxious, the counter-play to him will always be playing safe/deep warding if you're a laner or completely screwing his lv1 clear if your team is actually coordinated (also not expected in solo queue but not impossible). Don't know what else to tell you if you believe there is no counter-play to a guy that can skip past predictable ward placements and is a jungler.

Just find it extremely laughable that you'll call Veigar "balanced with a fair window of power" when he's the same thing as Syndra but isn't limited by his items. Literally the exact same job as a mid laner and same execution. Really misinformed post.

SirLapse1 votes

Also going to note like for Gragas, his ultimate was nerfed to be more janky. It was not a rework.
