What?
The only reason they made large sweeping (usually pointless/detrimental) changes was to say they were doing something big to try to draw in a crowd during preseason to try to get people hooked.
A very large amount of changes were made for the sake of pro viewership, which is a minority of the playerbase, and new players, not in the interest of the people already playing the game, considering they've very likely already spent their money.
This has been a thing since season 4 or 5.
The game is not more balanced than it has been in the past, certain champions are.
The majority of the time there weren't extreme outliers, especially as far as bans over the past 5 years
(not saying they're overpowered, just that they've been top 5 bans in 85% of patches since season 5, the next closest behind them being Morg at 21% top 5 presence) . There were season specific outliers like Kass, Fizz, LB, etc, but those champions who were strong in those cases then would get shit on by the current state of a LOT of champions right now.
Its completely illogical to say the game is more balanced when damage has been buffed to the point of absurdity and tankiness is worthless on anyone without broken inherent damage or without an income.
