Riot 5.22 gameplay appreciation thread (Official)

There are many people that consider this patch to be a colossal failure, these people have probably never played during a pre-season before when Riot implements meaningful changes that will become a major focus during the upcoming season.

I find that the changes were excellent and a great sign of things to come, here are a few things I appreciate during the most recent update

  • Buffs across the board for the entire support class
  • Warding to be more evenly split across the entire team rather than hinging almost entirely on a single character
  • Keystone masteries in general
  • Reworking several gimmicky items into practical ones (Ex: The Dark Seal)
  • Greater emphasis on team coordination rather than individual skill
  • Encouraging alternative playstyle on characters (Goes hand in hand with several points mentioned)
  • etc.

In general I very much liked this patch, there are obviously a few kinks that need to be ironed out (DAT YASUO) but for the most part, I find that it was a great improvement that will continue to yield positive results.

Come at me haters.

I played in preseason 4 and 5. This is by far the worst, no contest. This is worse than release Rek'Sai, this is worse than 4.20 warwick.

The reason is simple: those were individual champs you could either ban or have a niche counterpick that shits on them.

The current patch changes literally everything about the game. The mastery system that was generally in place from seasons 1 to 5 is completely gone. The towers are nothing now. This is just fucking horrid.

{quoted} The current patch changes literally everything about the game.

Heard the exact same thing when trinkets were introduced. Heard the exact same thing when Nashor buff was changed/nerfed. Heard the exact same thing when Dragon started giving buffs instead of gold. Heard the exact same thing when Clairvoyance was nerfed/Ignite was buffed. Heard the exact same thing when Jungle items were introduced. etc.

As Nasus would paraphrasedly say; Patch reactions are a cycle.

Actually I have, and they've never felt this awful before.

It's easy to lump everyone who disagrees with you in one group and basically say "oh well these guys have no clue what they're talking about, they've probably never experienced a preseason before" and then brush aside and ignore all of the negative parts about the preseason while pointing out a few of the things they actually managed to get right.

You can keep doing that as much as you want but it doesn't make any of the people who are complaining wrong.

Do you feel that vision was improved in the new patch? I personally don't, and I'm not sure if that's just me doing something wrong... I feel like vision is much harder to maintain and actually more unevenly split now, because nobody can buy greens, and only Supports and junglers can get item 2049/item 3711. The blue trinket and vision wards are easily taken out if you try to deep ward, so it seems like the map is darker now.

EDIT: I'm actually seeking civil discussion here, not trying to start anything :-X

I find that Vision was improved if the entire team pitches in. If the team does not pitch in, it was nerfed.

I main Evelynn(Jungle) , I always upgraded yellow trinket as soon as I had extra gold because of the major benefit in vision... but often times I noticed I was the only person consistently warding, even more than our support. Now it seems more players are actively warding and relying less on the support. So in my opinion it is better than it used to be.

Yea, well a lot of people also love communism and totalitarian rule, but that doesn't make it right.
