All in all I was fairly happy with the rework except that atleast early game you lack mana sustain to be a battle healer like he was intended to be.

The buffs are nothing major just some extra mp5 and mana growth or a decrease to the cost of his abilities namely his Q. If the Q cost was decreased i don't see why the base heal coulnd be nerfed as long as its HP scalings uped to compensate

edit

another idea i had was that proccing his passive on champs either gave him increased mana regen or just a flat mana gain

His healing needs a boost I think.

How it works now: Cast heal, expend all charges (up to 3). On-hits reduces cooldown of skill. Heal is up again, but charge is at 1.

The time until the next charge is definitely a crippling factor to the skill. I think they need to make the charges speed up on-hit potentially. However it definitely would make Taric a pretty annoying healer if this change would go through. Functionally, it would feel much more reliable and healthy to use. Balance-wise, AoE heal is powerful in itself.

Also they should just add a support item that mimics the mana restore on-hit of Essence Reaver. item 3508

Not a hefty amount of mana restore, but a certain amount to offset the overall sustained costs. Balance could be in the form of it's cooldown between applications and/or making it only work when hitting enemy champions, creating that proper risk/reward scenario.

If you make it so his mana costs aren't that harsh you're gonna have to nerf his shielding, healing or damage. No thanks. Also the mana costs make catalyst great on him although it's not entirely efficient, you miss out on 3 health per cast.

do you view him as that strong a pick?

usually when a champ like taric has such a low pick rate his mains keep his winrate fairly high but in the case of taric he has a sub 50% win rate as the 4th least champion played.

The Fuzzy 0ne2 votes

Low pick rate doesn't mean that he isn't good... His laning phase leaves most casual players at a loss to pick him, but those who play him enough can get through that with ease. His team fighting is arguably one of the best. That's why I agree with koko. He's extremely strong, especially with the new itemization, but mana, and the cast times of everything keep him from getting out of hand

Death by Glamour3 votes

i never said anywhere that he is bad, what i said is that his mains would usually bloat his winrate because so few people were playing him

The only buff I want for Taric is ignoring unit collision while channeling his E. I've lost games because a minion causes me to miss a crucial stun.

the problem is that his rework is crap.

he is forced to be weak because his ult is just too much. and so his heal is garbage, his cc options are really bad, his passive is COMPLETELY USELESS for a tank or support and has no meaningful connection to the rest of his kit. also it is too rarely procced in a realistic scenario because he has so little cc. there is no reason you should let taric auto you without walking away.

then look at braum passive:

  • offers cc, so it is useful
  • braum has 3 means to get into autoattack range and to actually use his passive
  • his passive rewards him for teamplay

it does have the faint wiff of shen syndrome about it.

hes in an awkward position of being the most generalist champ in a very generalist class,

Taric has a stun to allow him into melee range

Give him solo buffs. Reduced mana costs for solo spells, or increased effectiviness. Not enough to make his solo spells better on a duo lane, but enough as in to make his solo laning better.

Aside that, he is a teamfight support with one of the strongest teamfighting in the game, specially his ult. Its kinda hard to give him an above average laning when he has such a good tf potential.

Careful. This is one of those pics that can get your thread deleted. Even though I think it is beautiful ;-)

Edit: fixed.

Yah I've seen it before.

The reason his kit is so op is because of the mana costs. Holy fuck it would be broken if he could spam them freely.

Death by Glamour4 votes

no one is suggesting that he should spam them freely

Dokkaebi2 votes

It doesn't make sense to buff his mana pool tho'. It's like giving juggernauts more mobility.

You mean like righteous glory on darius?

he's already pretty freelo

WTF? Taric is barely reaching a 50% Winrate, and he is not reall hard to play.

crippler381 votes

you dare say anything besides Taric being the Gem God (capital G)?!

Taric got me from bronze 4 to silver 3 in a week.

FakeGravity1 votes

what if his Q cost less if cast with three stacks? it would make waiting for the three stacks more rewarding while still making the single charge heal spam impossible

AgeOfTheMage1 votes

Actually I think he's perfectly fine where he is. Idk bout you but I destroy as him top, rush iceborn, mana issue solved, as for support, I mean, just conserve your mana early.

AlienPrimate1 votes

After a fair amount of experience on Taric (360k mastery), I am against any kind of buffs to his mana other than possibly refunding a tiny bit of mana with his passive on hit. Just something small like 5 mana per hit with his passive would suffice. Taric is meant to be a late game monster. With a full support build, he can 1v1 most fighters and assassins if they don't have lifesteal. His overbearing late game has to come at a cost. That cost is having to actually manage his mana early game.

Here is a tip for anyone having issues with his mana. Just get forbidden idol first back if you plan to get ardent censer which is an op item on Taric btw or tear of the goddess if you don't. Having either ardent censer or tear usually fixes all of my mana problems for the rest of the game.

Death by Glamour1 votes

do not get forbidden idol...

glacial shroud instead

AlienPrimate1 votes

It seems to work pretty well for me. I used to always get frozen heart or iceborn too but after switching to ardent censer my win rate with Taric went through the roof.

AlienPrimate1 votes

With 50% bonus mana regen it takes 45 seconds to regenerate 250 mana at level 6. This goes down by about 3 seconds each level to 23 seconds at level 18. Even after upgrading to frozen heart at level 18, ardent censer will still out perform it after 36 seconds.

Death by Glamour1 votes

thats not my point, glacial shroud simply builds into better items for taric.

i highly rate righteous glory on him

AlienPrimate1 votes

I still think ardent censer is the best item on him granted your adc isn't Jhin, Exreal, or Miss Fortune. The sustain it provides your ADC is just nuts. I can have an ADC who just has bf sword and hurricane and they will be back to full health from nearly dead just during my ult. It also stacks quite nicely with face of the mountain and w because they can heal while the shield blocks damage for them which essentially turns shields into heals.

I'm not denying that glacial shroud is a good item on him. I just think getting censer asap is the best course of action in most situations for how I play Taric. I don't play him as a front line tank until late game. I play him as an enchanter who casts spells off of my allies until we are going all in.

Death by Glamour1 votes

its a good enough item

but not first buy

FireDrizzle1 votes

I dont think Taric needs any buff. He is hopeless vs some supports but he seems to be the best out of lane. As long as your team uses the ult, not zhonyas when they got the invulnerability or running away despite being a fedAkali or Katarina

Taric the Gay1 votes

Late game I can be strong with the right items. But that can be said about anyone. The mana costs are something I have been wanting for quite some time now and doing this would make me a better support against poke lanes but also immensely improve my jungle clears. I can actually start at red if this takes place. The cooldowns are fine as they currently are. And the damage output isn't bad. The target just has to be standing still for me to actually kill them. Either that or I need to have Iceborn Gauntlet equipped. Either way a buff would be nice.

he's fine. no need for changes

Morticianjohn1 votes

Taric is actually not bad. Wardens just aren't popular and specifically Taric is a healing/shielding warden with less playmaking than Braum and some of the other wardens (although a greater team fight presence). His ult is so much feast or famine though and takes a lot of getting used to.

crippler381 votes

Buffing relatively balanced characters invites nerfs later on.

Taric is fine how he is now, just build Redemption and your mana troubles are solved, 800 gold for the mana portion of Redemption solves your mana issues while increasing your healing, shielding, and giving cdr.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Nah, his mana costs early are fine. It makes it so you can outlast him if he spams spells constantly. His kit is very powerful, the mana gate is vital to make sure he can't just completely dominate in the early.

TóxicoChicoGuapo1 votes

gotta be careful with taric. he is quite broken when good because of the raw power of his ultimate. what they could use maybe is a stronger shield or heal maybe, or potentially lower mana cost on his heal so he can use it maybe once or twice more in lane.

but overall he's not too far behind being good. he doesn't need anything major as if you buff him too hard he will be the best melee support by a land slide. that ultimate is gamebreaking.
