Why does maokai have the highest auto attack dps top lane??

This dude is a magic damage tank, I fail to understand how this fits into his kit

This dudes attack speed is through the roof and is only 8 less than the most AD top laner at level 6.... Mathematically, with auto attacks alone, does more dps than any other top laner.

Which I think is fucking bullshit

Im sitting over here as Darius and I cant even touch him because my attack speed is 2/3rds of his and has less dps. No armor, no AP, nothing, but he just outheals and shrugs off all my damage while giving me the tree beatdown.

I don't think theres any top laners that simply sit there and AA with no influence from abilities, so raw AA dps isn't meaningful.

Plenty of top laners are AA reliant, but have boosts to their AA's either through direct steroids (e.g. jax w), or passive effects (e.g. trynd bonus crit/AD), or even less obvious stuff like auto attack resets (e.g. darius w), so naive calculations (which you didn't even do) are prone to leading people astray compared to what any given champs DPS actually is in practice. (And that's not even getting into the various different trading patterns of different champs, or the actual damage from non-AA related abilities.)

It's my understanding most fighters aren't having such a good time this patch, but thats a broader problem that isn't really about base ADs/Attack speeds.

edit: Not to mention, builds are a thing. Mao is unlikely to be building any AD/AS, most fighters will be building at least one of those.

"Mathematically, with auto attacks alone, does more dps than any other top laner." Reading this is making me cringe, you provided no maths and much more goes into aa dps than attack speed. This appears the same as a typical millenial's "litterally". The highest aa dps top is Trynd or Jax obviously, surely NOT Maokai. I wont deny he's op but his 1v1 strength is due to sustain and tankyness. You can weaken him a lot with bramble vest or executioners but may not work depending on the situation.

Tryndamere at level 6 = 81 base AD with .67 + 11% attack speed

Maokai at level 6 = 76 base ad with .69 + 24% attack speed

You dont even need to do the math to know that maokai's is better.

Becasue Maokai can build up to 35% crit, yeah. Trynd has 5 to 25 bonus ad from his Q also.

Ok, should I input Maokai's passive and Q then as well? He will still come out on top in dps.

Well you said aa dps so we should play by those rules, which can include passive as its on aa.
