Can a Riot please clarify the in-game coding of spellshields?

SwiftKitten88··1 votes·343 views

as far as i know:

Morgana E will block all incoming forms of cc while the spellshield is active, including the CC that initially breaks said spellshield with magic damage. and this spellehilds last until it expires or is broken by magic damage

Sivir spellsheild will block 1 ability and only one ability that deal damage,

Malzahar passive blocks is up until CC or damage hits him for .25 seconds and reduced damage by 90% for those .25 seconds yet when i damage him with my morg W, it doesn't go away after .25 seconds

and item 3102 works the same as Sivir

ok assuming the above statements are correct

why doesn't morg W proc silver spellshield or banshee's.. its a form of damage... Ziggs w is also a ground effect damage.. and that does.

item 3102 state on the loading screen it blocks the CC that impairs sight from Nocturne ulti.. and yet.. i can confirm that Quinn 's blind.. is not blocked by Morgana spellshield

and then we have Zoe . who for the LIFE of me i cant figure out how the hell her E is coded. as it doesn't seem to follow ANY of the rules here

because i can spell shield someone after they got hit by her bubble and are slowed, that the sleep will still stun them even with the spellsheild ON and active..

which would imply that it is ONE single form of cc. and not the slow and stun, which it clearly is...

and on said topic...

as a Morgana player.. who for reasons beyond my understanding cannot proc siver's spelshield with her W. siver can block my ulti with it.

and although i can't personally confirmed the following, as it happened too fast for me to follow last game.

it seemed to me she can also block the stun portion of it AFTER the 3 second tether even if she missed the intial cast.

which technically makes since as it is two separate forms of cc a slow and a stun..

which is oddly familar to Zoe who has one ability that is a slow and a stun. get seems to break every rule in the book for spellshields. as if its coded as both a single form and dual form of cc and it chooses w/e outcome makes u get CCed when decided if you should or should not be hit with the stun after the 2 seconds.

so.. can a riot person clarify if these are all working as intended, and if they are... then wtf is going on? because it is not remotely consistent .

why donest morg spelehild block Quinn and Nocturne blind when item 3102 does? why the hell cant i at least proc Malzahar and item 3102 with my W as morg.

who the hell thought zoe was ok why does Zoe bubble ignore all the rules

Spell shield are actually pretty cut and Dry

Morgana Blocks incoming CC Zoe E is already in effect so you cannot spell shield or block it with any spell shield. Malzahar Is not a true spell shield, is a morgana E with a different condition. IF his shield remains after .25 seconds of being damaged its a bug.

Zoe again to clarify zoe, one you are hit by the E there is nothing you can do about it, you have to block the initial activation of it ( how spell shield work ) or cleanse the effect and/or Grant CC immunity ( Rengar pre nerf empowered W would let him ignore zoe E ). Her E isn't technically breaking any rules, she is just literally creating new ones.

Sivir Dots Do not proc spell shield, as to why she can proc the stun its because the stun is conditional to the tether, you have to remain inrange for the stun to proc which is a " second cast " unlike zoe where if you get hit it auto applies regardless of what zoe does.

Nocturne Morgana spell shield prevents Soft and Hard CC, Vision reduction doesn't apply to either of those conditions so it will not stop. but Sivir Nocturne item 3102 stop spells, and noc vision reduction is coded as a targeted spell which i have no idea fucking why since its more of an AoE debuff, and im pretty sure TF has the same thing with his ult

Quinn again, in the case of morgana is matter of vision reduction not being a form of CC, banshee blocks spells entirely.

item 3102 Is uneffected by DoT spells. it must be a targeted activation condition ( made up that last term but it was to give clarity to what i meant )

Source: i play a shit ton of league and have played a more then fair amount of morgana

Morgana Blocks incoming CC Zoe E is already in effect so you cannot spell shield or block it with any spell shield.

in that was the case it would have to be coded as 1 form of cc, in which case Gangplank remove scurvy would be able to stop it.. however if you use remove scurvy it remove the slow, but you STILL get slept. which CLEARLY indicates that it is TWO separate form of cc that occur at different instances

Malzahar Is not a true spell shield, is a morgana E with a different condition. IF his shield remains after .25 seconds of being damaged its a bug.

no its not as bug, that how its coded its supposed to do that... he has one of the few spellsheilds that actaully seems to work how it was designed

Zoe again to clarify zoe, one you are hit by the E there is nothing you can do about it, you have to block the initial activation of it ( how spell shield work ) or cleanse the effect and/or Grant CC immunity ( Rengar pre nerf empowered W would let him ignore zoe E ). again i just explained that a summoner 1 effect does NOT fix this, as it will only remove the slow. therefore it is TWO serperate instances of CC

Sivir Dots Do not proc spell shield, as to why she can proc the stun its because the stun is conditional to the tether, you have to remain inrange for the stun to proc which is a " second cast " unlike zoe where if you get hit it auto applies regardless of what zoe does.

i jsut made an entire post proving that dot effect spellsheilds,

Nocturne Morgana spell shield prevents Soft and Hard CC, Vision reduction doesn't apply to either of those conditions so it will not stop. but Sivir Nocturne item 3102 stop spells, and noc vision reduction is coded as a targeted spell which i have no idea fucking why since its more of an AoE debuff, and im pretty sure TF has the same thing with his ult

the ONLY form of "CC" that morg spellshield is supposed to not block is DEATH

saying "losing vision" is not a form of CC is probably the biggest bullshit statement you made so far. as it is stronger than ANY other form of cc in the game as it affect they PLAYER an not said player's champion.

and if it wasn't a form of cc then item 3102 should have zero effect vs it , as it affects all plays on a team...

Quinn again, in the case of morgana is matter of vision reduction not being a form of CC, banshee blocks spells entirely. it IS a form of CC, if riot isn't coding it that way then they need to fucking fix that bullshit and it woudl also indicate tyhat they went out of thier way when making either Nocturne or item 3102 to specfially one that on one interation between then

item 3102 Is uneffected by DoT spells. it must be a targeted activation condition ( made up that last term but it was to give clarity to what i meant )

again i have previously just listed 4 instances that show it being affected by DOT, if you want to see them all

have a look http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Dot morg's w is a "static area dot" if you if take a look at the other static area dot.. you can CLEARLY see instances of other's procing spellsheilds. in fact almost EVERY dot in the game will proc a spellshield.. so again.. you completely pulled that stamente out of your ass

Source: i play a shit ton of league and have played a more then fair amount of morgana

no the source is your "ass", and i fucking MAIN morgana.. so quit the bullshit, and you started in season 3... just as i did, so yeah....

i am asking a RIOT to explain thier code, not some random person who blindly accepts buggy code as "ok" becuase its been there for a while

statements that, or "this is acceptable because it has always worked this way" appear a lot today...

if i recall correctly they use them to defend things and people like "harvey weinstein"

No it does not have to be coded that way, Debuffs exists? or do you not understand that? Which is why morgana spell shield doesnt work when already hit, "ACTIVE: Morgana magic shields the target friendly champion or herself for up to 5 seconds, absorbing magic damage and rendering her target immune to all crowd control while the shield holds." this is the part the gets people tripped right here, it should be worded like i had it as all INCOMING CC rather then CC immunity, because Black shield does not cleanse CC in effect. If you wanna test it out get have an ally get stunned by anyone, then black shield them. notice how the black shield doesnt stop the stun already in progress. zoe E works under the same logic.

no its not as bug, that how its coded its supposed to do that... he has one of the few spellsheilds that actaully seems to work how it was designed

Malzahar receives Void Shift if he hasn't taken damage nor been affected by crowd control

wrong Malzahar does not get to keep his shield under ANY instance of damage

"Malzahar receives Void Shift if he hasn't taken damage nor been affected by crowd control"

if he keeps it longer then .25 seconds it is a bug

again i just explained that a summoner 1 effect does NOT fix this, as it will only remove the slow. therefore it is TWO serperate instances of CC

Right from the wiki

"The tooltip previously stated that Cleanse Cleanse was able to remove the Sleep debuff, though no such effect has ever existed in the game."

it either a bug that riot has not fixed or its treated like a suppression/ airborne. which is confusing as all hell because i assumed as well it should work

i jsut made an entire post proving that dot effect spellsheilds,

http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=57572&page=1#post638519

Scroll down to morgana aand note that players have known about how sivir/noc/banshee's worked since dravens release

the ONLY form of "CC" that morg spellshield is supposed to not block is DEATH

This is correct, note how you said block. not Cleanse.

saying "losing vision" is not a form of CC is probably the biggest bullshit statement you made so far. as it is stronger than ANY other form of cc in the game as it affect they PLAYER an not said player's champion.

"Crowd control (commonly shortened to CC) is a blanket term used in League of Legends to describe abilities or spells that remove or diminish the control a target unit has over aspects of itself - aspects such as being able to cast spells or initiate movement commands." Taken form the wiki, but its worded lovely here.

Yes, technically its a crowd control. no it does not impair movement. i'll concede on this once since you want to be petty enough about it.

and it would also indicate that they went out of their way when making either Nocturne or item 3102 to specially one that on one interaction between then

Yes this is something riot would have done back in the day when noc was released.

Similarly to how WoA was almost elusively used by vladimir ( because he was designed it use it IIRC )

again i have previously just listed 4 instances that show it being affected by DOT, if you want to see them all

have a look http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Dot morg's w is a "static area dot" if you if take a look at the other static area dot.. you can CLEARLY see instances of other's procing spellsheilds. in fact almost EVERY dot in the game will proc a spellshield.. so again.. you completely pulled that stamente out of your ass

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_over_time

also fun fact, the wiki has nothing to do with the Code, its just a resource for information that was created by the players and not riot themselves and is open to edits from the player base and is not managed by riot so using this as a base of any argument is pointless unless just citing champion abilities or community terms

Anivia R - nope Cassiopeia Miasma - Not blocked Corki Knockback is blocked the DoT is not blocked Gangplank cannon balls treated as spells

like i could keep going on, its not hard to figure out what is and is not blocked. if your ever confused its not like you have THE ENTIRETY OF THE INTERNET. that list i found literally took me a 6 second google search

no the source is your "ass", and i fucking MAIN morgana.. so quit the bullshit, and you started in season 3... just as i did, so yeah....

You main morgana and some hwo know less about her interactions then someone who has maybe played about 100 games of her or so.

i am asking a RIOT to explain thier code, not some random person who blindly accepts buggy code as "ok" becuase its been there for a while

if you want an explaination as to WHY things are coded as they are

Older champs: Riot was young back then and didn't have a lot of resources, so it was difficult to make league flexible and push out new champions.

EX: j4 ulti was coded as minions.

Newer Champion: now that riot has a large Dev team they can make things properly, how ever this means newer champions will be different then much olders ones causing some weird interactions.

Ex: Bruams interaction with Urgot ulti ( riot said they intend to keep it and it was known IIRC )

Items/ summoners: Banshee hasn't change at all as far as i know so this item still hold true to all interactions.

Your crying about problems that do not exist. If you were a new player you argument might be valid that its overwhelming to understand all interactions, but if you have played just as long as me then this shit is easy.

Rule of thumbs:

  • if it doesnt stop movement morgana E wont block it
  • if it isnt a targeted spell Spell shield wont stop it
  • Sivir Nocturne item 3102 all block the same things

WOW SUDDENLY ITS LIKE YOU UNDERSTAND ALL THE INTERACTIONS OF SPELL SHIELDS HOLY SHIT

ummm that not entirely true.. and it makes sense in many of the cases it does apply.. but there are cases where it doesn't apply.. and morg w is nearly identical to hose cases

Because you can't block the ability, Morg W will still remain there. You can block Ziggs W because after it's used it's not there anymore.

Because you can't block the ability, Morg W will still remain there. You can block Ziggs W because after it's used it's not there anymore.

that is a fair point...

still balance wise its pretty freaking BS, as the only way would would be able to break the shield as morg being your q or your ulti.

neither of which you can waste.

it literally makes morg completly worthless that she cant break it.

vs item 3102 there is no balance downside to this. you got hit with an ability it should break.

and while vs Sivir it would be annoying, it woudl still be plenty easy enough to play around. as you choose when to activate your spellshield.. so u just wouldn't cast it while standing in her W. and it not like its a constant DOT, (from that i can tell) the damage numbers sems to trick only every half second or so.. so it would certainly be entirely doable to spellshield her Q with the half second between W ticks.

so while the will say it is entirely valid that spellshield cant block the spell

it really makes no difference..

besides its an aoe... if i use Morgana ulti and siver blocks it on herself with the spelshield it is STILL going to tether any other opponent in range, it only blocks it on HER. i don't see how that would really be much different.

and i admit i haven't tested either of these.. but i im nearly positive a spellshield woudln't stop an Ahri/Ekko Q or an Ezreal ulti from passing through you , it would just block they damage on you. and continue on

so i don't see any real reason why this should be much different.. DOT or not

i use it to proc Yasuo passive all the time
