Armor and Magic Resist Hybrid Runes Discussion (And if solo Armor/Mr Runes should exist)

So I've recently run into this dilemma that I'm sure many others have as well. Having to create 2 to 3 separate pages for the same niche simply for the purpose of vs AD/AP/Both versions of the Seals and Glyphs. What happens is on the "vs AD" page is I'll have Armor Seals (& w/e Glyphs), "vs AP" I'll have HP per lvl Seals and MR Glyphs, and for "Both" I'll have Armor Seals and Magic Resist Glyphs. Most of the time I only have two for a general and a vs AP page. Still, that's 2 pages for one purpose.

My champion pool consist of champions that generally utilize the same rune setups so it isn't much of a problem having 2 pages for each one. But after trying to branch off into some of the more unique rune setup champions like Vladimir I find myself creating 2 separate pages entirely for him.

So my first question is: Should we have hybrid Armor + MR runes? Just like Hybrid Pen they would equal an amount around 60% of what you would get with both Armor and MR runes adding up to ~120% overall slot effectiveness (split 60% armor and 60% MR effective).

Exact numbers would be 0.6 armor and 0.83 magic resist. With 9 it's 5.4/7.47 and with 18 it's 10.8/14.85. Vs Solo Armor Seals' 9 and Magic Resist Glyphs' 12.06.

Now, that suggestion is awesome and all. But then the original problem still exists: I still get more out of running Armor + Hybrid vs AD and MR + Hybrid vs AP.

So my next question is: Do we remove solo Armor/MR runes in favor of Hybrid runes as the new standardization? Since creating more rune pages seems to not be as easy as it sounds a simple solution is eliminating the need for more rune pages by eliminating the extra choice of Armor vs MR.

I fully understand that by removing the solo runes it is effectively taking away options from the player and more options is generally always the better way to go. But the thing to consider here is: Do we really need that option available?

(I also understand that many, including myself, view this as a minor issue that hardly affects gameplay. But those small % values can add up and mean the difference in those "He lived with 1 hp/He barely didn't kill me" scenarios)

Thoughts?

I feel like I covered everything I could think of regarding this query but there might have been something I missed. I think that Armor and MR should be allocated into a hybrid "Resistance" rune to remove what I personally think is unnecessary choice.

There are those edge cases where you face a full AD comp or AP comp but other than those (which usually don't work anyway) you probably want both stats.

The problem I see with this is that it realistically goes one of two ways

Either you get more armour/MR from running hybrid blues/yellows than you do from running armour yellows and MR blues or you don't. In either case one of the two set-ups becomes useless.

The reason why hybrid pen runes work is because most champs deal 90% one form of damage. It make the runes have a trade off to single pen. Resists don't work this way, any champ is just as likely to take any form of damage in a vacuum, although lane set-ups do change this somewhat.

For the first point:

Just like Hybrid Pen they would equal an amount around 60% of what you would get with both Armor and MR runes adding up to ~120% overall slot effectiveness (split 60% armor and 60% MR effective).

And honestly I can't quite understand what you're implying in the second one, if you could explain.

If 9 Armour yellows give 9 armour.

You run hybrid resist yellow/blue if they give >9 You run armour if the hybrid resists give <9

There's never a reason to run the sub-optimal page.

Oh I see what you're saying now. Well obviously Hybrid Armor/MR runes are meant to be better in slot efficiency than the solo runes, as stated in the quote above (120% to be exact).

However, they give a lower armor and magic resist amount than the individual armor and magic resist runes would.

Example:

Hybrid Armor/MR Seals and Glyphs give 0.6 armor/0.83 magic resist (my intended values, updated OP). Running both would net you 10.8 armor and 14.94 magic resist.

Running both Seals and Glyphs as Armor (1/0.7 respectively) grants you 15.3 armor, which is obviously more than the Hybrid's 10.8 armor. MR both equals 18.22, which is also more than 14.94.

Running Armor Seals and Magic Resist Glyphs gets you 9 armor and 12.06 magic resist, less than the 10.8/14.94 from hybrid runes.

So the reason to run hybrid resist yellow/blue is if you want more of both armor and magic resist. If you only want armor out of your seals then solo armor seals are still the best choice. Therefore there is no "sub-optimal" page.

Does it make more sense now?
