This is a survey I am doing to see who is the best tank, please enjoy ;)

Bare in mind that this survey is about tanking, not all fighter/tanks can effectively fullfill the role tank tis why the only ones made it in to the survey are Volibear and Jarvan. No Jax Shyvana

Shyvana has low damage output really. She's not a fighter and is a true tank. Sort of how like Janna is a true support or Soraka.

Shyvana having weak damage is a balance issue, she is still a fighter because her kit is designed around dealing damage, not around hard CC and utility like Braum or Maokai are.

shyvana is closer to a melee adc than she is to a tank honestly, a kit entirely focused on dealing damage while repeatedly autoattacking enemies, no team utility and very light CC on her ult's activation

Exactly, other than the small tank stat bonuses she feels more on the fighter side, I would say akin to Wukong or even Darius because of his natural tankiness.

To me the only true anything is someone who specializes in one role like Alistar but tbh, his Tankability is a bit selfish. Shen and Braum are better team tanks than Alistar while doing more damage. Who cares if Alistair can heal a whole team, its small and scales with AP an undesirable stat on any tank, the heal would probably only delay theirdeath by 0.5 secs in a tteam fight. The dumbest shen and Braum player can save you with 1 ability and their whole kit can save lives if used correctly.

He is my go to guy when I have to play top and given the likes are top nowadays (liss,gnar,swain). He has the sustain, silence and kit to deal with them.

Only problem is his Q is dodgy.

Cho's very strong, and he's got great CC, good sustain, and that combo into Feast is awesome. His downsides as a tank are the fact that he tends to depend on having a ton of hp, which makes him vulnerable to %hp damage like Vayne, and unlike a lot of tanks, he has no defensive steroids whatsoever

I don't think Voli's team utility is anywhere NEAR excellent; his entire utility is one short ranged fling and his slow. Pretty sure literally every other champion you listed has better utility than Voli (J4 has his knockup + cage, Shen has his Q, E, and R, Malphite's R + EQ,). Just seems very weird to count a melee range fling on a champion with no gapcloser and a melee range slow as excellent utility.

I have Voli's utility as excellent? o_O I guess I felt sorry for him LoL. Will change. Voli is indeed a great bruiser but atoll won't be as useful as other tanks. One thing about CC is it's useful at all stages of the game and increases in effectiveness the lower the CD and Tankiwe the Champ.

No Sion ? Even full tank he brings heaps of utility and decent AoE damage to teamfights.

What about Sion, huge utility, AOE stuns/knockups, and stacking health.

I agree, sion definitely fits in the top 3 for tanking, though it's arguable how well he can compared to other tanks, I should update tommorow :)

As for me I still prefer Shen because of how useful he is to the team. He can heal allies, peel for them, redirect and reduce damage in the form of CC while dealing a bit of damage (also aoe) and has amazing map presence that can save lives and turn around team fights (which in turn determine the out come of the game) It's like he has the best of each tank but in a weaker state:

Alistar's Heal (over-time instead of instant though)

Braum's Damage reduction (on dash)

Ramus's taunt (as a multi-taunt, skill shot dash)

Malphite's Single target poke (though has smaller range and damage but the heal in addition to damage outweighs malph's damage)

Not to mention, no resource depletion And the only champ to retain a global ult to this day xD

My Favorite is Alistar or Sion .

I'd give Alistar a good/great/excellent/fair/great for a total of 90, which ties with Braum for second, which seems accurate.I'd give Sion an excellent/great/great/good/great for a total of 100. In my opinion, you overrate Maokai by a fair amount, and I have been a Maokai top player for over a year. I'd give him a great/good/excellent/good/great for a total of 95.

I like the idea of adding that as a stat, because someone like Shen has horrendous wave clear, but someone like Malachite has excellent wave clear, which would rebalance the standings a little bit.

I know, with waveclear added he will definately be dropped out of the top 3, he'll be lucky if he makes it into the top 5, but still my favourite overall tank as he can do everything expected of a tank

It doesn't prioritize anything at all, it will simply chase the first enemy unit to walk within its trigger radius after being placed.

EDIT: Yes he is an excellent bruiser, and damage (in all its forms) is a universally required stat to win the game, but even with the damage and bit of CC, he cannot directly save allies or tank their damage and will often fall after his allies do.

I'll simplify this for you even more: do they have %DR? They are the best. Mao, Ali, and Braum are the best tanks.

Totally forgot to put in Alistar but still reducing a lot of damage on yourself as a tank is not at all useful if you can't get enemies to hit you. Mao and Braum can reduce the damage their allies take (as well as theirselves) while still having more/better CC than alistar. I can't tell you how many times an enemy alistar has hit me out of harm's way (his teammates) just to get some damage off and I escape safely behind turret. His CC requires more skill.

The Goal is how useful a tank is to the team and a Braum and Mao are more useful than an Alistar. That's why we see them in LCS

As for 1v1 potential I would say shen is the strongest, don't get me wrong Maokai and Jarvan can be disastrous, but that's really only when they have thier ult up. As for a great built shen (either ad/offtank or ap off/tank). He can often take valuable out of the game like Mages, Assasins and Carries. Without having an ult to save him. Still will get trouble with Bruisers though :/

1v1 is probably Volibear. If you stand there and eat his ult procs you're going to have a bad time.

True, True... If it was a server about the best 1v1 potential he definately would be in the top 3 if not 1st. But it's about tanking and "hate to say this but" individual damage is a side factor when judging how useful a tank can be.

I love Braum and if I had enough money to buy him (after the current 5 champs I want) I definately would main him when playing tank. Sadly I can never make Top solo Braum work... I know he is support and he feels awesome their but I have seen other summoners take supports to solo lanes like Janna, Thresh and Leona. It might be my lack of skill (with braum) but I lose lane whenever I solo him top
