So what exactly do I do with 6 items and no pink ward trinket?

The Bearded Bard··66 votes·4,624 views

Title. How am I supposed to help pink ward when I've got no room for one?

Follow up question, what am I supposed to do as a support before I have enough gold for Sightstone??? First back I like to buy the upgraded gold item, with that I used to grab a pink and a couple greens, now I'm either forced to grab sightstone and be gold starved if I want vision, or have absolutely no vision so I can get gold. Neither is as good an option as I had before.

Honestly instead of trinkets I think it would have been a better route to go for purchasable 'pouches' that can hold extra consumable items. That way you can still have potions, elixirs, and wards late game.

bringing back the pink ward trinket would be a good idea

Agreed. Bringing back green wards wouldn't be a bad idea either.

dont worry dude. just buy a pink ward that will instantly be cleared by enemy support or jungler. it is a good replacement for stealth wards because Kappa

We are not supposed to reach 6 item build this season. Kappa

I've done it a couple times so far.

Pre-5.22 you almost always went with the Greater Stealth Totem upgrade as a non-support so there's no change for you there. You only went with the Vision Totem as a support, which you can simply buy Oracles instead like most people do. I feel like you're just jumping on a bandwagon for no reason here (not that I don't want the Vision Totem available again).

The Bearded Bard4 votes

I used to switch back and forth between vision totem and greater stealth when I had 6 items as non support. Place a pink, then switch back to regular wards, once that pink died I'd switch back again and repeat. I'd do the same between sweeper and vision totem as support.

I can see the build path of your Ranked matches. You never did that outside support... Don't really appreciate your fabricating a defense for your argument.

To be fair, just because he didn't do it doesn't mean he couldn't have done it, and thus doesn't invalidate his argument.

I did not say nor intend to imply that his argument was invalid, but that he shouldn't preach what he doesn't practice.

That, and in his reply to me he claimed he does do it when his history suggests otherwise. His claim was of fact, not hypothetical.

I main Jungle. I'd always go Red unless playing Eve. Red can clear vision in the pits which can make smites less pressured. Also, the mere action of clearing an enemy ward on a gank path could relieve pressure in a lane as the laner loses information in an area. (even if they have a new ward to drop, they have to face check the bush I might be in to place it).

When mid I chose between Red and Yellow trink depending on play style - if I'm a roaming based mid i'm taking Red - or, if winning hard, upgrading Yellow to a pink ward dropper so I can keep one area permanently in my vision control. If I'm a siege or farm mid I'm keeping yellow.

The only time I consistently went with Greater Stealth Totem was when I was top lane.

The new vision system feels incredibly dumbed down. Everyone has a ton of wards and one super red can sweep the entire half of a river and nearby chokes.

You've been in a game long enough to get all six items O.O!!!!!!!!

That's deserves an award of its self.

To be fair the vision game is a lot better now. The problem is that you now will need an adc that actualy uses his trinket if you want to maintain vision over the bush. If he does this not, it's his fault & not yours.

If you don't have enouge gold for a sightstone your next back you have a fell options but it actualy depends on a lot of factors:

  • The gold you have
  • Game time
  • Your level
  • If you have lane controle (winning or losing the lane)
  • What your jungler is going todo the next fell minutes & what type of jungler it is
  • What is the enemy jungler going todo & what type of jungler it is

Just make sure you remember these factors:

  • Do you want to roam or is it's past 10 minutes ingame > get item 1001 in that buy
  • Do you have lane controle or do they have a stealth champion in your lane (Vayne Twitch) > get item 2043 in that buy
  • Do you need sustain > item 2003 or
    • item 1004 when building item 3303 or item 3301
    • item 1006 when building item 3302 or item 3301
    • NOTE: Despite the higher costs on potions it still seems that pots give a bigger powerspike but I wouldn't spend all your money on it tho.
  • Just want to finish your build fast: item 1028

To be fair even in that situation it will probaly be best to just get the item 1028 & filling in your remaining gold to get item 2003 &or item 2043. You could try item 1028 item 1001 if you have 700 gold but that will be a rare buy honnestly.

I don't disagree. I liked the pink upg. However, if the game gets to a full 6 item build, I don't think this a critical problem. It's basically all going to boil down to a team fignt around an objective or dumb luck anyway.

Also, blue ward alteration is awesome, which makes pink wards and sweepers less valuable now than they were in the past.

Long range warding every 60 secs that don't disapear and aren't limited is better than the yellow ward later on.

Valderis Vandala2 votes

If you have 6 items you should probably be pushing into their nexus instead of bitching about pink ward coverage. 1 good team fight and its over, given the trinkets and support wards that's all you need for vision for one last favorable fight.

Specter0278 votes

If the support has 6 items then everyone probably has 6 items and the game is at a stalemate and has just as much of a chance of being won or lost on a random vision pick as it would an actual team fight.

Krigjer2 votes

This is exactly my issue as a support.

I started two wards and a gold item because it was how I liked to play. When I went back, depending on how the lane was going, I'd either grab more stealth wards and mana regen/ap/whatever or just rush sightstone.

Now I feel like I have to rush sightstone or be screwed on vision. I have to ration my trinket if I don't buy sightstone immediately, and there will always be a 30 second to a full two minute gap where we just have no wards. (Sightstone wards were nerfed too. Used to be 180 seconds, now it's 150)

People always say 'well you can still buy pinks!' Pinks are useless if you can't defend them.

Dengeden2 votes

a) Watch the support with 5 items and 2 pink wards mock you endlessly (my personal preference)

b) Sell your cheapest item for a pink, place it and lose the teamfight

Not getting a Sightstone on a support is extremely rare (bc of the increased gold generation on supp items) and generally a non-issue. You're gonna be too focused on asserting your lane dominance anyway.

Social Justice 12 votes

Supports aren't supposed to purchase a 6th item.

For non-supports: you're supposed to figure out who does the warding and who does the sweeping on your team.

Honestly, as a support main (yes really, they exist) its not hard at all to keep bot lane warded at (almost) all times before sight stone. I just start with supp item, pink, and one pot. Put pink in tri bush (blue side) or by edge of drag pit and place trinket in the other ganking bush. As long as you try to keep 1 trinket stack ready, you can keep river warded until you have 1300~ gold for sight stone and upgraded supp item. If your adc actually uses their trinket to help, its even easier

Krigjer1 votes

As a fellow support main, I don't have the same experiences you do.

'As long as you have one trinket stack ready' effectively means you have minute-long gaps where you have no vision if your pink is destroyed. And I've probably had two or three games where my adc has helped me ward river during this preseason.

LetsGoRidePandas1 votes

if you watch the map and try to keep track of the enemy jungler's patterns, you can afford some down time. I believe at lvl 1 the yellow trinket lasts 60 seconds with a 180 second recharge time. you dont really need to ward for a gank until about 3 minutes. you should have 2 charges by this time or close. ward -> 60 seconds -> check for enemy jungler -> if visible in other lane: don't ward, it's not necessary. if missing: ward -> 60 seconds -> 120 seconds down time. Farm up and dont push the lane past river unless enemy jungler ganks another lane. 120 seconds finished. check for jungler again. repeat. by that time you should have enough for sight stone.

thats when youre warding solo. the down time is even lower if your adc wards river when yours is on CD (you can ask them in chat if they forget)

I hate having to remind my team to use their trinkets **every single game. **

Just give me back stealth wards so I can take care of warding river by myself.

LetsGoRidePandas1 votes

That we can agree on. Green wards were nice

Specter0272 votes

But starting ward over full pots means you have less effective health than the other support. You've warded against the enemy jungler but the enemy bot can now afford a worse trade against you at anytime and still come out ahead because you are down in the potion count.

LetsGoRidePandas1 votes

while that may be true for some supports, I have not seen this to be much of a problem as i usually play champs like braum, leona, thresh, blitz, etc. Doesn't bother me too much as i have relic shield to heal from too

Specter0272 votes

Anyone else seen a resurgence of stealth champs in this patch? Not so much Eve, who uses stealth to gain position, but champs like Teemo, Rengar, Khazix and Akali, who use stealth in combat. Upgraded Red trinket is OP at finding Teemo shrooms, but it's more difficult than ever to find Vayne, Teemo, Rengar, Khazix and Akali when they cloak. Nobody has a spare pink cause they are using that as a perma stealth ward, and the one person that had a red trinket can't use it to find cloaked champs anymore.

I dont mind losing the Green Wards... since anyone barely used them (the same people that complained about lack of vision XD). But i do miss the chance to upgrade my trinket into a the refillable Pink Ward item 3362 . Did i use it as much as say the item 3361 oritem 3341 , no, but i still liked to have it for when i was dealing with Evelynn and the like. I would like for them to bring it back, even if im the only one im my elo that actually upgraded their trinkets and bought pinks (and i even bought greens XD).

Durzaka2 votes

You know, before the trinket change, when people got to 6 items they didnt buy the pink ward trinket right? (at the higher tier).

It was either Scrying Orb (ADC) or Sweepers for Mid, Jungle, Supp, and sometimes top. And yellow trinket with 2 charges for top (also sometimes, it varied).

If a game reaches full 6 item builds for everyone, you have done something wrong if you are still fighting for 10 pink wards on the map. You should be forcing an end to the game with that kind of power.

Aheadatime1 votes

Wait you got to full build this patch?

Pink wards weren't popular most people would either not upgrade or get upgrade sweepers lol I personally like pink wards, but how many games have u had last long enough for 6 items xD

I'd go ahead and say that the blue trinket IS the pink ward trinket, pretty much.

Yrzen1 votes

item 3363 Is the new pink ward trinket in terms of vision and item 3364 is the new pink ward trinket in terms of removing enemy wards and such.

In regards to the follow up question, make use of the better yellow trinket and tell your adc or jungler to ward something for you.

I grant that it's really annoying not being able to buy vision wards late game though.

Lugg1 votes

That's the decision you have to make when you get to that point of the game, vision vs stats. You still have your free trinket, so you can still ward.

You still have the warding totem. If you bought a pink ward, then you don't really need the sweeper. Yea, it's not as good as having a sweeper and Green Wards, but it's how I get by.
