What is the purpose of autofill in gold and below?

I can't say for anything above gold, but I've never had a queue go on for more than a minute or two, and most are instant, even if I pick mid / top or mid / jungle.

So, why autofill when there isn't a queue issue? If diamond is having issues as usual, turn on autofill for them, but don't torture low ELO where the people I'm stuck with can hardly play competently in the roles they want as it is. >.>

I've heard queue times are actually considerably longer a lot of times because of how frequently people dodge when they don't get their role, because of autofill. I don't know if it's true because I haven't played much PvP in months.

I've noticed more dodges lately, true. But then, there are always just weird days with lots of dodging.

Autofill was on all the time post 11pm pacific (2am my time) for Bronze anyways; no real change there.

They probably removed it once it got around that you could cancel it by re-queueing, which was skewing its frequency to unacceptable levels for people who weren't aware of the way to exploit/worm out of it. I think It hit Silver/Gold players the hardest though.

To keep que times short

Queue times are already short though, so I don't understand why they added it.

queue times are short BECAUSE of auto fill and it also helps when people play at late hours

I've been playing long before autofill was a thing, and queues have always been near-instant. So, I really don't see the need for autofill in any ELO I've been in. And I typically play really late at night too, and never go over like 1-2 minutes -- but then I don't expect instant queues when 90% of the server is in bed.

yeah and before we had autofill we also weren't able to pick our roles either. It was faster to be in queue because of that. Matchmaking didn't need to worry about putting 5 people queue'd for 5 different roles that are close in MMR with other 5 people with 5 different roles with similar MMR. The instant one role is being played more than others you will get increased queue times for everyone who plays that one role (hello mid!) and when there is one role rarely played it will increase queue times for everyone except the ones who play that role (hello support!). Before it was just "find 5 people with similar MMR and match them against 5 others with similar MMR"
