Champion Diversity

There are some cases were a champion could reasonably be replaced by a similar one: Yi/Jax, Malphite/Sejuani, Janna/Sona, but there are some others where a champion has a strength that no others have and is more difficult to play around than it is to execute: Ekko/Yasuo/Lee Sin/Ivern/Graves.

If something's overpowered, it shouldn't be okay for everyone to have to ban that champion every game. Both teams should be able to have that, and leave it up to the better players to win the match.

And if this makes the game less diverse, good. There's no reason fairness should be sacrificed for the sake of diversity. It's the unfair nature of a draft that prevents you and the opponent from both having a champion that wasn't banned that leads to things like Kassadin's 90% pick/ban.

Except that Ekko and Yasuo are balanced idk why they're mentioned.

They're mentioned because they have strengths that cannot be matched by any other champion. That isn't to say they're invincible, but no other champion in the game can build tank and still deal a large AoE burst while healing for 700 like Ekko can, and no other champion can completely negate projectiles for no cost.

The only similar abilities to Ekko's ultimate lack the escape, healing, or damage. The only similar ability to Yasuo's W has a cost, smaller hitbox, and doesn't block damage for the caster from behind.

The game is balanced because many champions are similar enough to replace each other. Need high damage and mobility? There are a lot of assassins that can do that, all with similar weaknesses. Need basically an AoE CC bot? Malphite, Sejuani, Amumu work for your jungler. But if you need a hyper-mobile champion that can build full AD or fighter and still counter every ranged ability? There's only one option, and the current draft means even if you're definitely better at Yasuo than the opponent, you're shit outta luck if they get to pick first.
